Wheaton, Hijab-wearing Prof Reach Impasse in Reconciliation Attempt

Wheaton College and a political-science professor on leave for theologically muddy comments about Christianity and Islam are at a stalemate in talks over her reinstatement.

Larycia Hawkins, who holds tenure at the evangelical college in Wheaton, Ill., resurrected an age-old debate earlier this month when she announced plans to show solidarity with Muslims by wearing a hijab, the Islamic head covering for women, during Advent. Her support stemmed in part from her belief that Muslims and Christians worship the same God, she said in a post on Facebook that invited others to join her campaign.

Support streamed in on social media, but Wheaton administrators were not impressed. They put Hawkins on paid leave through the spring semester, pending a full review. Hawkins said she wanted to reconcile with Wheaton so she could continue her teaching career.

But on Tuesday, she accused school ...

Amen , Rodney, repentance starts with me. If I don't preach the gospel to myself daily, my personality gets in the way of God's mercy and grace.

and yes, missionaries are being brought back. churches have less funds, people are out of work. and massive immigration taking any jobs left. don't expect gen x and millennials to float huge budgets, they can't! AND China merging in Asia countries making costs skyrocket, money doesn't go as far. and you aren't going to hear this from the "tither" pastors who think someone on fixed income with increasing monthly costs has any money left at end of month -- we used to see them as "the poor and needy" not as $ receptacles.

Wayfarer Pilgrim (war refugee),

Thanks for the information. I was completely unaware of Southwest enrolling a Muslim. SMH. Space, funds, and resources are limited (ok, I know they're not limited to God), so why do we not use discretion on how we use them?

I was aware of the lack of funds for missionaries and that many are being asked to take early retirement. That is frustrating. As I understand it, it is a problem that has been building up for quite some time and has only recently come to a head. May God cause us to repent as a denomination for our excesses while we let missions slowly wither. Have mercy, dear LORD.

Rodney of Tennessee ( my family came to Texas, after the war of northern aggression), my understanding, taken from the Baptist standard of Texas, noted that in 2013-2014, Paige was in the Middle East Israeli dig site, and a Palestinian Muslim wanted to study with SWTS students, Paige allowed him to enroll, even though there is a rule that only testimony giving Christians , meeting required undergraduate prerequisites may enter the seminary. There are a lot of broke Baptist students who never got the option to be invited at the behest of the seminary president with financial assistance. Nevertheless, the good old boys board reviewed and found no fault in action. By the way, did you know that up to 800 missionaries are being asked to either retire or just end their mission due to lack of funding? If churches were to put in the mission field what they put in building fund- mission solved.

Hey Pennnnnnny,

You have mentioned communism quite a bit the past few weeks. I was just wondering the reason for (what seems to me to be) the sudden interest. I'm not being critical. I hate communism as well, and I feel like it has fallen off of our radar. I'll bet most folks under thirty have no concept of how evil it is. I'm just curious what has brought it to your attention of late.

if the professor wants to be a moslem, there are plenty of places to do so, interesting terms like "cloud of suspicion" and all is quite a lot of vibrato. she seems to not know Christ and be quite ready to compromise the teachings of Christ for her political whims, and yes, it is within their "rights" as a body of Christians to say "no thank you" to another religion. that is the freedom of assembly if nothing else.

this kind of thing is happening across the nation in the universities and in many instances done:

1 -- through social media
2-- by outsiders to the school

she is simply another tool for the communist sweep.

From the article wrote:
“I may get nothing out of this," she told the Tribune. “This is about standing up for my colleagues. If I can be thrown under the statement of faith bus, so can they. Everyone is cast under a cloud of suspicion. If they say the wrong thing, how does one know?”
Hmmm. I just read Wheaton's statement of faith, and I saw a lot of good stuff, but no mention of the exclusivity of Christ. (If I overlooked it, someone please correct me.) May this remind me that when I read a statement of faith to pay attention not only to what is said, but what is not said.

As for this professor, I googled her name and found her twitter page. It didn't take much reading to figure out her liberal tendencies. How she ever got tenured is beyond me. Good grief.

Wayfarer Pilgrim, what are you referring to? This is the first I've heard about something like that. As a Southern Baptist, I am very concerned. Do you have any more information?

It might be best for Paige Patterson to deflate his opinions about letting an avowed Muslim to be given a entrance into Southwestern theological seminary ahead of the line from people who have been sponsored by their local churches and led by God's Spirit to enter the seminary for the pursuit of ministerial letters.
Seriously, the camels nose is sitting at the table, this Islamic woman will sue Wheaton and cost them dearly. Vet your staff, guerrillas are in every facet of our nation.
