C.S. Lewis Was a Secret Government Agent

As I browsed eBay not long ago, I came across a 78 rpm recording of a lecture by C. S. Lewis. I assumed that it was a mistake or that the seller was trying to defraud an unwitting public. I knew Lewis well enough to know that he had never made a 78 rpm recording for general distribution, much less one produced by something called the Joint Broadcasting Committee. I also knew that Lewis never delivered a lecture on the subject ‚ÄúThe Norse Spirit in English Literature.‚ÄĚ At least, I knew we had no evidence of such a lecture. Fortunately, curiosity got the better of me, and I bought the record from the dealer in Iceland.

Over the years, I have assembled a significant collection of items related to C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, and their literary friends. I regularly mount exhibitions for universities and major municipal libraries to spur interest in the Inklings, especially when the secular market is ...

Lynda,
Welcome!
Actually there are only a handful of posters on this forum that cause division..for the most part this is a beneficial and supportive group of people, especially the women folk.
We have a pot stirrer and a Diotrephes type on here who when they come on together, it can get a little bumpy..just a heads up
Anyway thanks for the links and comments.

Frank, you and others may like this prayer from Everard's sermon{http://www.gracegems.org/Everard/daily_clothing.htm}
The Christian's prayer
My God, in me Your mighty power exert!
Enlighten, comfort, sanctify my heart;
Sweeten my temper, and subdue my will,
Make me like Jesus, with Your Spirit fill.

I want to live on earth a life of faith,
I want to credit all the Bible says;
I want to imitate my Savior's life,
Avoiding lightness, gloom, and sinful strife.

I want to bring poor sinners to Your throne,
I want to love and honor Christ alone;
I want to feel the Spirit's inward power,
And stand prepared for death's important hour.

I want a meek, a gentle, quiet frame,
A heart that glows with love to Jesus' name;
I want a living sacrifice to be,
To Him who died a sacrifice for me.

I want to do whatever God requires;
I want a heart to burn with pure desires;
I want to be what Christ my Lord commands,
And leave myself, my all, in His dear hands.

O Lord, pour out Your spirit on my soul!
My will, my temper, and my tongue control;
Lead me through life to glorify Your grace,
And after death to see You face to face!

Good link sister. Below is a couple of paragraphs from it. It certainly showed me areas where I fall short; that is for sure. Thanks.

You can only be sanctified by God as you know Him as the "God of peace." Before you can be made holy, you must be at peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ. You must begin with free forgiveness and complete reconciliation through His blood. True holiness rests on the basis of a perfect justification, whereby you stand before God in Christ accounted righteous in His sight. There are some who try to climb up to justification and acceptance by their holiness or good works or good feelings. But they always fail. It is just the other way.

You are not to be holy that you may be forgiven ‚ÄĒ but you are to be forgiven and justified that you may become holy. You must begin on the lowest round of the ladder. You must take the place of the sinner, and then look to Christ to pardon and justify you freely through His blood and righteousness.

Oh dear.  I'm new to these forums and I had no idea that there was all these problems amongst various users.  I hear what you are saying John from Wales but we are commenting on news stories that SermonAudio puts up and sorry but sadly that usually involves things from heretics.

You can get caught up in exposing heretics but as a boxer that goes into a fight who studies his opponent to know his tactics we as born again Christians need to know the devices of our enemy.  There are too many people getting swept away from the straight and narrow path by the smorgasbord of heretics that sadly abound.
‚ÄúLest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.‚ÄĚ ¬†2 Corinthians ¬†2:11. Maybe I'm naive but I thought that there was people out there who do want to know the tactics of satan (who is subtle). ¬†People link to sermons to help others who do want to be informed. ¬†You don't have to listen to all of them and listening to them when you are doing other tasks like washing the dishes or driving is not a drain on your time.

I guess i should have been doing IT support instead.

claiming Sermons on SermonAudio are a waste of time is strange when you note that a lot of CS Lewis sermons on this site are laudatory.

Seems like an ongoing debate that needs documented quotes and scriptural evaluation.

"Beware the Leaven of"
1 . Anti-Lewis teachers on SA??

"Beware the Leaven of"
2. Pro-Lewis teachers on SA??

takes a bit of time / thought/ evaluation

or when Lewis' writings come up the resolution might be to say "he is either a great teacher or heretic- I'm too busy to inform myself"

2 Tim 2:15 - I have changed to the side that calls Lewis leaven by the sermons noted.

John, take time to assess the evidence provided in this thread. It might help.
Occult involvement is not a light or superficial matter, but rather serious and nasty, in fact it is abominable in the sight of God. It is playing with the devil.
Please, examine Lewis' personal choices and statements as indicators of who he was and where he stood in the faith.
'Heretics' are all bad, yet some exercise more nasty influence than others, and you know Scripture gives instructions on how to deal with such.
"Abstain of all appearance of evil" is an advice Lewis did not take.
The links are provided with good intention to warn the none informed.
Take care

Frank, my fellow pilgrim and brother in the Lord, whom I love also, that is a nice post to end on, as it is very late here.

I think enough has been said about the Anglican (typical Anglican) and his heresies, but if folks really want to backslide and carry on slamming another fellow human on this planet (died 1963), then as far as I am concerned this is a free forum for opinions, and there should be no censuring of thoughts, provided they be in accordance with forum etiquette, and so if folks continue with it, doing a war dance around the heretics' pole, well, that is up to you. But keep taking your spiritual temperature, and you may find yourself getting lukewarm towards Christ, about which he will have something to say.

Love to all, and hopefully some of my experiences will make others think about what they do, whether it be biblical or not.

And I don't do ChristMass, either!

My last post on this thread. Really!

This wasn't an issue until Dolores posted; as I stated, she accomplished what she set out to do. It would appear Johnuk is in cahoots with her.
Because of Dolores, we have come under fire by 'JohnUK' and are being reprimanded and called heresy hunters. I suppose when Christ our Lord called the self righteous religious folk of his day hypocrites and brood of vipers, he was being a heresy hunter as well.

I will never agree with you JohnUK, your brand of hateful religion is something I would never delve into. You exalt yourself as some kind of authority, especially over women, and delight in lashing out at many of us here. It isn't exposing wolves that causes backsliding, it is not repenting of sin, like slander. It is denying you too need to examine your own heart and stop setting yourself up as some sort of spiritual guru over these boards, also, defending Dolores who refuses to investigate any matter and upholds false teachers. Being a misogynist is an alarming thing, and it is sinful, as is pride.

My own conversion was so powerful and definite, that I was most unkind to others who had a more gentle conversion experience. I used to tell people that if they didn't have a visitation of Jesus into their life and a sort of Pentecostal experience of the Spirit, they were not saved yet. That was back in the 80's, and I have learnt better since, especially since I read George Whitefields letters. In those he started out the same as myself, saying that people needed an experience similar to his own, or they were not saved. But in the course of time, he realised that some have such a delicate coming to faith, there was hardly a change in them that was noticeable.
In years to come, ladybug will agree with me, and I can wait.
God bless his saints, all of them.
Well one day maybe I will reach your spiritual understanding, but at the moment I obviously fall short. Now let me end with this; I love all of my brothers and sisters in Christ and I love them enough that I would die for any of them.We are all different and iron sharpens iron.

It's a simple fact that heresy hunters will inevitably backslide if they spend all their time sticking up links to sermons and articles about heretics.
In all the years I've posted on this site, there has been hardly a mention of the Lord Jesus Christ, nor of obedience to him, nor of experiential faith in him, nor of love for him, nor of how great he is, what he has accomplished at Calvary, the fact of his physical resurrection and glorious ascension, his intercession at the right hand of God, his holding of the universe together by his authority, his coming again in power and great glory....
People today need (not necessarily want) a Christ centred fellowship. Good preachers will spend their lifetime preaching Jesus Christ and him crucified. This is the need of the day, not secondary issues which distract the mind and causes backsliding.
Look at the life of Christ and follow HIM.
So, we should ignore heresy. I would say there is a godly balance we must have. If you don't think that lots of people post about the love of Christ and the love we have for him, perhaps you should learn to read more carefully. Oh and I never use links, so I will ignore that part. Jesus is my Lord and Savior and He lived and died for me!

You think you have authority from God to analyse people you've not met, determine their spiritual state, and act like a spiritual mentor or pastor? Ay Yi Yi, and the Lord looks on, whose blood was shed for Dolores because he loves her so much, having chosen her in Christ before you were even born, and brought her to new birth by his good will and purpose.
There are a multitude of Christians in this world who do NOT see eye to eye with all of us here on doctrines, the ecumenical angle, famous authors. There are Arminists and Calvinists, amils and postmils, a whole gamut of differences.
Thanks pilgrim! We differ on our approach to those we don't believe are saved and on the approach to posting if we believe they might harm the body of Christ. For instance, I would say your comment to Ladybug was pretty unloving. I never said Dolores was not saved, but simply that I don't believe she is. Do you believe Obama is saved? Same testimony as Dolores'. Now the only way you can in good conscience answer this is to say, "I don't know".

You brought up a good point about the differences between Christian thought. So, should we never discuss doctrine or the ecumenicalism and what those differences mean. Do they mean anything to you?

Well, let's see now, we've got something like 10 sermons to listen to, and several articles to read, plus all the posts on here, that makes about 48 hours of study continuous, but if you allow only two hours a day, that's 24 days, and after it all, you'll be an expert on Lewis and be able to give lectures all over the country.

When Jesus - don't forget he's the wisest man in the world - warned his disciples of the leaven of the Pharisees, it only took him a few choice words, and then he went on to better things.

Think about it folks. Do you want to backslide even further? Or do you want to grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ?

If you don't believe me, just look at all the time here wasted on the Grahams, Joel Osteen, Rickety Warren, Nicky Gumbel. Let's see now, there's only five million, six hundred thousand more heretics to go, and we'll be done.

We'll be done all right!
