‘Street preachers have no right to talk about morality’

A Manchester City council chief has said that street preachers should not talk about morality.

Councillor Pat Karney, spokesman for the council and lead member for Manchester city centre, made the comments in response to challenges from The Christian Institute about his crackdown on ‘nuisance’ in the city.

The Institute had asked Councillor Karney to clarify whether the council intends to restrict street preachers, and if so on what legal basis it would be taking action.

Apparently some people in America feel the same way. ]]Judge sentences Catholic to Baptist church pews. From which,
Chris Graves wrote:
Judge William Mallory enjoys handing out creative sentences from his bench over at the Hamilton County Courthouse.

But the one he meted out in his Municipal Court room Wednesday wasn't even his idea.

And boy, oh boy did he like it.

Instead of sending Jake Strotman to jail on a misdemeanor attempted assault conviction, Mallory sent the 23-year-old Catholic to a Baptist church for the next 12 Sundays.

Thanks Jim. Maybe I came across wrong, what I meant is that, like with anything else, it'll take practice. Yes, go out there and begin preaching the gospel, for sure, but everything that happens as a result will take practice. Whether that be, like I said, answering wide ranging questions, learning to deal with the different personalities, handling conflict, etc, etc.
"Study to show yourselves aoproved" If a preacher only had to read from the bible to be an effective witness, there would be no reason for the admonishment to study. Along with study, are the things I brought up in order to hone ones skills...raw experience. Even a new preacher who is called by God doesn't get up in front of a congregation his first day and perform as well or have the same skills as his well seasoned counterpart because with practice and learning comes experience wisdom.
Nothing to disagree with, Chris, and you might find much the same in the sermon, ]]The Roman Road Yes, practice in front of mirror and this might be somewhat similar, ]]Witnessing to Muslims, Catholics, and False Converts.

Chris, may I point out one thing,

1 Corinthians 1
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, that the cross of Christ should not be made void.
18 For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE."
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
22 For indeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks search for wisdom;
23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness,
24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.---]]NASB

While I have nothing against Intellectualism and having fun running down rabbit trails, This isn't the primary way of presenting the Gospel. Present the Gospel first.

Street preaching, like councilling and similar things will just take practice, no matter how knowledgeable a person might be. Certain questions will be asked over and over, and will range from dinosaurs, to aliens, and everything inbetween, so with experience will come knowledge as you're forced to look deeper into areas that may nit have seen much, if any, previous study. Then there's the human interaction aspect and learning how to handle different personalities, environments, and situations that will arise which can only be learned through raw experience.

Just a brief word about police if I may.
Seek as much as possible to build a good as repectful relationship with them as possible.

When they have come up to me. I stop my preaching and ask them, 'How can I help you?' and then be honestly as cooperative as possible when they ask me things like:

What is your name?
Where are you from, where do you live?
Are you a member of a local church??

(and if something happens you might get questions like)
Can you describe the man who broke the window on the abortion clinic door?
Do you know where he went?
Can you fill out a statement for us?

Rylefan, you would have been pleased with the sermon preached at Indian Hills Community Church this morning, ( ]]IHCC (Live Stream 10 a.m. & 6:00 p.m. CT) )the same guest pastor will be at the evening service as well which you can see on the Internet), but you and he would no doubt agree on the responsibilities of the true Church. Oh, for people who want to see some our guest speakers they will give a variety to Gil and I can't think of bad one we had this year! So, if it doesn't conflict with your church services take a peak.

Philippians 2
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing;
15 that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,
16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may have cause to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.
18 And you too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.---]]NASB

"The visible Churches have their times of prosperity and seasons of peace, but never has there been a time of peace for the true Church. Its conflict is perpetual. Its battle never ends.

Warfare with the powers of hell is the experience of every individual member of the true Church. Each has to fight. What are the lives of all the saints, but records of battles? What were such men as Paul, and James, and Peter, and John, and Polycarp, and Ignatius, and Augustine, and Luther, and Calvin, and Latimer, and Baxter, but soldiers engaged in a constant warfare? Sometimes their persons have been assailed, and sometimes their property. Sometimes they have been harassed by slander, and sometimes by open persecution. But in one way or another the devil has been continually warring against the Church. The "gates of hell" have been continually assaulting the people of Christ." (JCRyle)

I've always dreamed of street preaching and have watched a lot of videos as well. Unfortunately, I've seen more bad than good when the "preacher" is confronted, heckled, or taken to task on this or that. I've seen many of these guys chase people, yelling, "sinner!, sinner!, sinner!" down the street, giving Christians a terrible name. The main thing that always stuck out to me is when these are not fully prepared to answer basic questions and not prepared at all to answer others which always gave onlookers the edge, even giving them the knowledge advantage many times as the preacher fumbled for answers to questions he should have known in many cases, but didn't.
My point is that if we do anything of our own accord, and without His leading and approval, we'll usually fail so I think praying for guidance is always important to be sure we're where He wants us, and doing what He wants us doing as opposed to following our own desires so that we know He's with us, leading who He wants to us, and giving us the proper words, etc, to speak.
I had a very charismatic ex-wife who has had various high profile ministries in so-cal. Every one of them failed and she always blamed it on Satan. I blame it on her for meaning well, but doing what she wanted and following her own lead. She

Trusting in God here, we will pray for you AND the people God leads you to speak to in church this morning

If I might suggest
prayerfully look up open air preaching on YouTube. There will be all sorts of types both good and bad and from them let the Lord cull from them and impress on you, what kind of attitude, content, location, interaction with people, loudness of voice you can in good conscience before Him be about (and especially trust Romans 8:28 to be so real for the child of God, because none of us does open air perfectly and we don't have to when God uses our efforts to serve Him)

Know this: Open Air Preaching gets people off the fence; some you would imagine will hate you will love you, some you imagine would be pleased will thoroughly disagree with you and not like it at all. Pastor Greg Locke makes a point that is important even if some seemingly reject us, if they keep listening over time (days, weeks, years) God's word will do the work He sends it to do in their lives

Please my brother I know what it is like to be ashamed of a sinful past and failures in the present

But know this according to Hebrews 2 the Lord Jesus Christ Himself is not ashamed to call you His brother

Here is an example of Paul Washer (famous for Shocking Youth Message) preaching open air
