Huckabee comes to defense of Duggar family

A day after Josh Duggar apologized amid allegations he molested five underage girls, including his own sisters, while a teenager, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee criticized those “trying to sensationalize the story.”

“Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable,’” Huckabee said in a statement posted on Facebook Friday.

“He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities.” Huckabee said the “blood-thirsty” media sensationalized the story.

Huckabee, a Baptist minister whose candidacy for president has received the endorsement of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, said “good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things.” ...

I was contemplating if I should vote for Huckabee for President, but after reading this and other articles about his defense of the Duggars', I just cannot give him my vote. His reaction to this matter seems to reek of shallowness and lack of empathy for the victims. There is no way he can win my confidence and vote now.

Oh how your post concerning your cousin tore at my heart.
I too suffered at the hands of ungodly males in my family.
But...God in His Love, Grace, and Mercy healed my broken spirit.
He also gave me a godly husband who has been most supportive.
When I read the Duggar article, all those memories came flooding back.
I too pray for the victims....the scars are deep!

2Cor 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Thanks Unprofitable Servant! I'll share a personal story about my cousin who was a few months younger than me and who I thought of as a sister. She had negligent parents in the sense that while they clothed and fed her, they out of ignorance (perhaps) left her wide open for sexual molestation at a young age (12 years?). The extended family youths heard rumors she was being abused by a cousin or cousins. I really don't know how many molested her, but she was too ashamed to admit it was happening or seek help from others. As a consequence she grew up feeling like a used, dirty piece of trash. She then went on to marry at a young age and abused alcohol and drugs. She died from kidney failure before her 40th birthday. I still weep for her and will not be silent when I hear of abuse, nor will I sweep it under the rug; God is my witness. Amen.

Media people always want the spotlight for the good things and insist on privacy when something negative comes up.

Forgiveness of sins does not mean we escape the consequences of our choices. David did his sin in secret, just like the Duggar boy, and God explicited said through Nathan that he was forgiven. But he was also told of the consequences he would face and that his sin would become open. Actions have consequences.

The way the Duggars chose to handle it was questionable, sending him away for a year (wonder if that had something to do with the statue of limitations) and then reporting him to a friend who also was an officer of the law.

It is good to be reminded that those of us who are saved by the grace of God of us are just sinners who need are in daily need of the sanctifying process in our lives. Paul believed that, yet did not hesistate to instruct a church to separate from a person caught up in sexual sin. He rebuke the Corinthians for not mourning that such was named among the saints. Did the Duggars mourn or attempt to cover up? Don't know, would not even know who they were apart from this forum. (never watched the show) Angela has made an excellent point, there needs to be concern for the victims not just the victimizer.

As you all pray and close ranks around the Duggars, let's also remember the innocent children who were molested and might be scarred for life. Yes, God is merciful and I'm glad Josh repented of his horrible sin and has been forgiven. However, there are still consequences for the victims. I also grew up in the 1970's and while many of my friends were into heavy petting, it was still taboo for a brother to molest his sister or other relatives. Let this be a lesson parents need to discuss and teach their children about.

Good points
I love the Duggars "warts&all" :see my 1st post-
Baby/bath water.

When TLC cameras first met the Duggar family for 2004’s 14 Kids and Pregnant Again special, Arkansas parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were already doing quite well for themselves. Since then, thanks to an additional boost from TLC, the Duggars’ net worth has grown to an estimated $3.5 million.

Although we can’t all have lucrative reality TV contracts, most of us can learn a few things from the Duggars’ money philosophy…

After Jim Bob and Michelle married in 1984, he worked for various stints as an insurance salesman and car salesman. In 1990, after six years of using credit and gathering some debt, Jim Bob and Michelle attended a seminar on Jim Sammons’ Finding Financial Freedom program. (The seminar is endorsed by their religious organization.) The Duggars then vowed to get out of debt by not purchasing anything they didn’t have cash to cover at the time.

“I’ve learned self control and also a lot about construction,” Jim Bob said in a 2001 interview for Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

They are nothing but a bunch of wicked, bloodthirsty gossips who love nothing more than to dig up garbage from someone's past and ruin their lives. It's one thing if the sin is still going on, but this happened 12 years ago when he was a kid and maybe before he was even saved. Don't we all have sins in our past we wish we'd never committed and have been forgiven for by our Savior Jesus Christ?

I like your post, especially the "I hate the media part"

Question: Is it okay for us to love the Duggars warts and all, and pray for them and thank God despite whatever their failures, imperfections and sins, they have a heart after God

What a wonderful God and Savior we have. He commands us both to love Him and to love our neighbors, especially if they are part of His family

Question: In the day of judgment will we be guilty of loving imperfect people or just the perfect ones?

Well, when a family decides to go in front of cameras; agreeing to unveil their daily lives to the world, they have to expect explosions of media coverage when a skeleton floats to the surface, especially sex crimes. Sure, we all sin, and probably have sins from childhood, etc, that we would never want dug up, and it's my feeling that he's not a predator, but rather, an overly curious, bored teenager who made up his mind to do things he shouldn't one day, got the help he needed, confessed his sins before God and his family, and moved on to spiritual and moral maturity.
I suppose I could be.completely wrong and that he still battles the demons, but I would think it would have continued on.
Anyway, I wonder how in the world this family would have supported all those kids without the show.

Hmmm... Good points, Pennnnny. I've always been somewhat torn about this family. On the one hand, I've been glad for television programing that is not offensive. On the other hand, I've often wondered how anyone could expose their family in such a manner. Either way, we need to hold them up in prayer.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar said when they learned of the molestations 12 years ago, it was a dark time that drew the family closer to God, according to the blogpost.

"We pray that as people watch our lives, they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles every day," the couple said. "It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much becauseGod's kindnessandgoodness and forgiveness are extended to us -- even though we are so undeserving. We hope somehow the story of our journey -- the good times and the difficult times --cause you to see the kindness of Godandlearn that Hecan bring you through anything."

Josh Duggar's wife Anna said he confessed the incidents to her two years before proposing marriage, and that she was "surprised at his openness and humility."

On the blogpost, Anna Duggar said she knows "who Josh really is -- someone who had gone down a wrong path and had humbled himself before God and those whom he had offended. [He is] someone who had received the help needed to change the direction of his life and do what is right."

This is disturbing… But consider it from this point. The sodomite crowd wants us all to believe that "once a homo always a homo" but Bible believers can look at I Corinthians 6:11 and see that there is salvation and hope for even the most heinous sin.
Should this not be a time for Christians to close ranks around someone who has conquered a horrible sin… And support them?
