Porn and video game addiction leading to 'masculinity crisis'

A leading psychologist has warned that young men are facing a crisis of masculinity due to excessive use of video games and pornography.

Psychologist and professor emeritus at Stanford University Phillip Zimbardo has made the warnings, which form a major part of his latest book, Man (Dis)Connected.

In an interview on the BBC World Service's Weekend programme, Zimbardo spoke about the results of his study, an in-depth look into the lives of 20,000 young men and their relationships with video games and pornography. ...

Dave,
Stomp on that thing if you have to.
Good for you!
Even God said if one needs to pluck their eye out to keep from sinning...
It's a shame that this society is so filthy and allows for such.
I can't imagine the difficulty in being a youngster in this place for the last few decades.
With such prevalence of images,I'm surprised that they can even evoke much attention. After one is bombarded with scantily clad people even when they just sign in to their email - seems like it would get to be a bore.I signed in to my email a few days ago and an image of the "saints" cheerleaders was on it with some mascot. Even though I don't watch that football trash,I can see that the attire of the squads has only left a lot to be desired (in way of material too).
...so much for any defense of pro football. And, a very bold name to use for such "saints".

Gday steven r,Christopher.
My first and most embarrassing encounter with a smart phone a few yrs back left me reeling in horror. I had a new galaxy 2s, I registered the SIM and what have you, put the phone in my pocket, and whilst sitting with my mother and then 12 yr old son. All if a sudden I could hear someone talking from phone, I got phone out of my pocket and just from the screen touching my pocket lining ,much to my disgust on the screen was a women on live video chat ,naked and purring filth at me. Now not being too savvy with phones at the time I was frantically trying to switch off this filth, and of course I was hitting the turn volume up key. End result, I stomped that phone immediately as this was the only way I could shut it up. Of course I made myself learn how to drive a smart phone safely.
The temptation for young inquisitive minds must b enormous, it's so sad for the ones feeling they need to behave like the women on my phone that day.

Dave- that is why I got my son an iPhone. (He is 20, but still in my house under my authority.) Apple has restrictions that parents can set to disallow using the Internet. (For that matter, I had my wife do the same thing for my phone. I don't need unlimited access to the Internet either...)

You've got that right, Dave. What the kids know (and are doing) todays at such young ages is pretty disturbing. In my opinion, even health classes have become x-rated as they teach kids as young as five things they have no business being made aware of

It's so sad, and quite confronting. Any child with a $30 smartphone can in 2 clicks access more porn in seconds than my dad's generation saw in 2 lifetimes.

Do you teach the works of Fred Rodell, Albert J. Nock, and Jacques Ellul for example?

As mentioned before, I teach sociology/criminal justice in a community college. This is something that has been discussed at length multiple times amongst sociologists for the last several years. The sad fact is that over 62% of all websites are pornographic in nature; and that is not even including the "socially acceptable" pornography like swimsuits, lingerie, and workout stuff.
The Internet is a dangerous place, and it is only a fool that would let their children unlimited access to it

In my other work (we all have multiple jobs in this economy) I work with teen felony offenders. 90% of them come from a single parent family with a mom at home. Too many deadbeat dads are destroying our country.

I tend too think that it also reflects a fatherless society. Boys will be the worse boy, if left alone or with other boys. The Feminization of society has made men and boys the worse representation of males. Men literally have turned into either donors or monsters. That is the role torn asunder by the fall.

Just another poor substitute for the true pleasure that can be found in fellowship with God and obeying His commandments. Another deception of this world system to enslave people in the paths of unrighteousness.

Porn must be a very serious problem now because one cannot turn the radio on to almost any station without having to hear about enhancement aids...any time of the day. Apparently, people have looked at so much junk that now their ability to do what comes naturally is compromised. What a waste of time to get enslaved to such a poor substitute which is costly and is always not what it appears to be. It's sad that people are so easily duped.
God's way is always best.
