Pope to allow absolution of abortion during Holy Year
Pope Francis has decreed that priests may absolve women of the ‚Äúsin of a procured abortion‚ÄĚ during Holy Year next year.
In Catholic teaching, it is normally only bishops or the Pope himself who may absolve the faithful of the sin of abortion, which leads to excommunication from the Church.
In keeping with his ministry of mercy, however, Pope Francis has extended his powers of forgiveness to those ‚Äúmissionaries of mercy‚ÄĚ priests who will visit Catholic dioceses and parishes during Holy Year....

The audacity takes my breath away... "extend his powers of forgiveness"?!?! These woman will need a mighty work of the Holy Spirit to save their souls if they agree to fall under the blasphemy of this so-called "forgiveness". Lost souls!
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, haaaa. Stitch up my seams, or bring me a coffin.
You are spot on s c. In predominately RC countries you will find the anti-Christ waving his magic wand around to the duped masses. Just like Simon the sorcerer bewitching the people of Samaria...we have modern day wizards from the RC cult giving out that they themselves are some great ones. :ugh;
I guess that it helps to take note of the source.In this case,the irish times,which probably has a ,predominately, RC audience. Usually,the RCC takes a more ecumenical approach when readers are more diverse in that they,like prominent ecumenical preachers,will usually approach cultural issues in a very altruistic/universally acceptable fashion whereby most Christians are in agreement (like the ills of abortion,sexual abuse and the like). While many Christians are aware of the faux papal authority,it's rarely given as much attention as all of their "good works", I suppose.
In regard to John 20:23... No MAN was ever given the authority to forgive sins. The Apostles and all disciples of Christ only had/have the prerogative of announcing to others that if they repent and believe the gospel and trust in Christ ALONE, their sins will be forgiven; if they reject Christ they are still dead in their sins. As His representatives, we declare to others what He has already declared.
Now the Jewish nation certainly understood that only God could forgive sins since they actually sought to kill Jesus because He in fact forgave the sins of the below paralytic. Notice the following exchange from Mark. There is a big difference between someone saying ‚ÄúI forgive you‚ÄĚ than from someone saying ‚Äúyour sins are forgiven‚ÄĚ. This man had not sinned directly and personally against Christ, so when He said your sins are forgiven, He was in fact telling those around Him, ‚Äúyes I am God because only God can forgive sins‚ÄĚ. I always like to think that these verses represent the most truthful error ever committed by mankind. Yes, only God can forgive sins (the truth part), but then saying that Jesus was not God and was blaspheming by forgiving sin (the error part).
Mark 2:3 *And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men. 4 Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. 5 And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, ‚ÄúSon, your sins are forgiven.‚ÄĚ 6 But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7, ‚ÄúWhy does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?‚ÄĚ

Yes,MS. Any one who thinks that a faux pa "...in Catholic teaching,...absolves sins" doesn't have a clue as to the Only One who does. This is pretty basic to understanding anything of Christ. Isn't it interesting that the RCC leaders will claim to be vicars and infallibility in their roles but never climb on the cross themselves. Chanting,genuflecting and donning clown garb should be everyone's first clue that something is amiss.
Why be stingy and stop at abortion? He should be magnanimous and give absolution for all sins. But of course, he can not because he has not given that authority. The Pope is not "The Son of Man" (Matthew 9:6, Mark 2:10, Luke 5:24). He has taken John 20:23 too far.
Some of the results of a Romish culture, from the same source that the SA article has. Food for thought, anyway.
Yes, MS, quite correct.
Ex-Catholic Journal wrote: The power to absolve sinners from the penalty of sin is given to all who preach the good news of Jesus Christ, not to a privileged class of priests and bishops. The penalty for sin is forever removed at the moment a person trusts in Jesus Christ as Savior. No additional satisfaction for sin is necessary for salvation, such as praying five Hail Mary’s. Jesus paid the full price for sin. After being justified, the child of God is cleansed from the effects of sin by direct confession to God (1 Jn. 1:9). The mediation of a priest causes the Catholic to be placed further from the forgiveness available through Christ, our only mediator (1 Tim. 2:5).
Once again we see the leader of this cult oppose, veil, conceal and distort the only means by which a sinner can be reconciled to a Holy God. John 14:6, Psalm 49:7-8, Mark 2:7. There is nothing more wicked and evil than deliberately with-holding God's glorious gospel of grace through Jesus Christ from people, that are headed to a devils hell. May God in His Mercy free these poor souls from the bondage of deception.
