The World’s First Self-Driving Semi-Truck
“AU 010.”

License plates are rarely an object of attention, but this one’s special—the funky number is the giveaway. That’s why Daimler bigwig Wolfgang Bernhard and Nevada governor Brian Sandoval are sharing a stage, mugging for the phalanx of cameras, together holding the metal rectangle that will, in just a minute, be slapped onto the world’s first officially recognized self-driving truck.

The truck in question is the Freightliner Inspiration, a teched-up version of the Daimler 18-wheeler sold around the world. And according to Daimler, which owns Mercedes-Benz, it will make long-haul road transportation safer, cheaper, and better for the planet. ...

s c, you have a point.

Phillipians 4: 8  Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things.

I don't find the world events, except what happens in the dictatorial countries, such as Islamic and communist ones, all that depressing. also it makes me happy to be living in this country. so, in many cases, ignorance is not bliss.

Sometimes,not knowing,Jim,is preferable.
Have you ever taken a period of time to forget the news? If you have, you may experience a nice reprieve.
I tried that for a few weeks and was very content. I also got rid of television a long time ago. I don't have a clue as to who's who among the elite unless I happen on it on a forum like this. It's very liberating and easier to attend to real people in ones life than to invest much in people who are total strangers and really care more about how I can line their pockets in their claim to fame than anything else. Why people swoon over highly publicized figures who could be of another gender, for all they really know,is quite a puzzlement.
I mention the gender thing because a lot of men who dress like women usually pull it off better (in fooling people). I always thought that it was funny when an unsuspecting man was so enraptured by a "woman" that turned out to be a guy in drag. And "no",I don't support transvestites ...just got a kick out of a guy who shouldn't be so superficial to begin with getting a dose of reality/chastening.
Never envy the "rock star" with the diva on his arm. They both have what they "deserve".
But mercy and grace is available to them too.

I'm surprised that a lot of people haven't commented on this one. Most of us drive and have passed or have been passed by 18-wheelers. Many times I find it a little discomforting doing that and even more so when surrounded by them.
Martin Ford wrote:
While the trucks may indeed soon be able to essentially drive themselves, the staggering destructive potential of these vehicles probably means that someone is going to remain in the driver’s seat for the foreseeable future.
from the article.

The article brings up a lot of ideas, it's worth reading.
