Award to Charles Stanley angers Jews who support LGBT rights

Decrying Atlanta pastor Charles Stanley’s “sordid history of virulent homophobic statements and actions,” a gay Jewish group is protesting the Jewish National Fund for plans to bestow a high honor on Stanley, senior pastor of First Baptist Atlanta and a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Stanley, who rose to national prominence in the 1980s with his “In Touch” television series and books that sold millions of copies, “has publicly called AIDS God’s punishment for America’s acceptance of homosexuality and called homosexuality ‘destructive behavior,’” reads a letter to JNF Southeast region leaders from the Southern Jewish Resource Network for Gender and Sexual Diversity (SOJOURN).

“He has said that ‘God does not agree with the lifestyle of the homosexual’ and that accepting gay people is ‘an act of disobedience to God,’” the letter continues. ...

Charles Stanley has much more serious problems then the queer community❗👎
Michael F. Ross wrote:
A pastor’s genuine, pure, and spiritually edifying love for his wife is the backdrop of all of his ministry. If a man can’t love his wife with a singular devotion, then he will not love Christ with a single heart or his congregation with a single focus. It may well be our failure that we are concerned about the letter of the law of marriage while we miss the essential spirit of the law of marriage: “Husbands [pastors], love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her” (Eph. 5:25).

...divorced pastors would do well to remove themselves from pastoral ministry and should consider transitioning into other facets of Christian ministry. The integrity of marriage, confidence in the pulpit, and trust in the pastors of our churches may all outweigh a man’s right to continue in office. His right may well need to give way to the greater responsibility to place nothing before his flock that would be either a stumbling block or a discouragement to their growth in grace and holiness....

It depends what you mean by Judaism. Do you mean the old covenant, which Jesus had to obey perfectly? Even Joseph and his mother had to "keep the law" when he was born, in keeping with the old covenant. It is in the keeping of the law, that makes the imputation of Christ's righteousness possible through faith.

Hebrews 8:10-13 KJV
(10) For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
(11) And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
(12) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
(13) In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

We are people of the book, NT/OT. We are not people of the Talmud, nor Babylonian traditions. (when in exile they would acquire and develop Babylonian teachings, and today kabbal is very popoular)

People of the book follow Christ.

Sanhedrin: Acts 4:1-3

"And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

"And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day"

"Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

"This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

"Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus."

Acts 4:10-13

Aren't the Judaizers part of Judeo system of thinking? Does Christianity have it roots in Judaism? If so, where is it scripture? I'd like to know.
Still learning.
I'll have a crack at this one.

Judaizers in the New Testament did not wish to "cross over" from the old covenant to the new covenant without bringing some of the old covenant baggage with them. They obviously did not comprehend the new covenant, and were still seeking to work their way to God.

The OT showed how God must be approached, worshipped, obeyed, along with the intense and daily sacrificial system, civil and ceremonial laws. These were abolished when Christ came on the scene, because he fulfilled all of that, in his life, death and resurrection.

So that the OT, based on physical things (pictures) was never wrong, but merely pointing to the time when all those pictures would come to fruition in the God-Man Jesus Christ, making the old obsolete.

Some ask why then did not Jesus come first, and avoid the old covenant altogether. Good question?

Jim,

I'll just let them speak for themselves....

http://www.thesanhedrin.org/en/index.php?title=Psak_5767_Tevet_6e

"It is the opinion of Rabbi Schwartz that a person who believes that 'that man' was a messiah is not transgressing any prohibition. However the issue is as follows: someone who believes that 'that man' was a messiah seems to be only partly disassociating himself from full christianity, and there is a problem of what is meant by the term 'messiah'. Is the messiah a 'divine messenger' to 'save' the world"

Followers of "that man" are automatic transgressors of the blasphemy law of Noahide is what this is saying.

So according to the Sanhedrin, in order to be a good Gentile and follow the universal Noahide laws, you must first deny that Christ (referred to irreverently as "that man") came to save the world and you must deny that He is deity.

There's no straighter arrow than this.

Penny, I will thank you for pointing out the 7 Noahide laws that were quite interesting and are a worthwhile idea in this country, Sanhedrin? You are misinformed, ( ]]Chapter 18: Human Rights ) See:

Myths, "Israel is a theocracy and should not be a Jewish State."

" It often makes people uncomfortable to refer to Israel as “the Jewish State” because it suggests a theocracy and, therefore, the demise of Israel as a Jewish state is viewed by some people as a positive development. Israel is not a theocracy; it is governed by the rule of law as drafted by a democratically elected parliament. It is informed by Jewish values and adheres to many Jewish religious customs (such as holidays), but this is similar to the United States and other nations that are shaped by the Judeo-Christian heritage and also have expressly religious elements (e.g., church-state separation in the U.S. does not preclude the recognition of Christmas as a holiday). Israel has no state religion, and all faiths enjoy freedom of worship; yet, it is attacked for its Jewish character, whereas the Arab states that all have Islam as their official religion are regarded as legitimate."

Jim,

the Sanhedrin. They're back!:

http://www.thesanhedrin.org/en/index.php?title=Jerusalem_Court_for_Issues_of_Bnei_Noah

"There is however a basic minimum common to all proper faiths, and this is the Noahide teachings. The Sanhedrin, through this court, is required to play a role in helping to clarify these most basic teachings"

Gentiles are not required to follow the Talmud.

google: "Netanyahu, Talmud, Israeli law"

But they are required, under their leadership, to follow Noahide law, which they consider universal, because all are children of Noah. The colors of the rainbow represent each of the laws.

Now I was reading last night the VATICAN document signed between priests of both religions, which was giving credence to Noahide law, confirming its equivalent to Acts 15 (which of course I think is bogus).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Law

"The Talmud lists the punishment for blaspheming the Ineffable Name of God as death. The sons of Noah are to be exclusively executed by decapitation,[22] considered one of the lightest capital punishments.[23] In Jewish law the only form of blasphemy which is punishable by death is blaspheming the Ineffable Name Leviticus 24:16."

Christians blaspheme their god through Jesus Christ. Universalists, ok.

You're off-base on this one. By the way, why don't you read about the Noahide ideals.

Jewish Virtual Library wrote:
The seven Noachide laws, as traditionally enumerated are:

1. Do Not Deny God
2. Do Not Blaspheme God
3. Do Not Murder
4. Do Not Engage in Incestuous, Adulterous or Homosexual Relationships.
5. Do Not Steal
6. Do Not Eat of a Live Animal
7. Establish Courts/Legal System to Ensure Law Obedience
