Megachurch Pastor Prayerfully Allows Gays Into Leadership

Is the Bible Belt coming unbuckled? Stan Mitchell, pastor of the GracePoint megachurch in Franklin Tennessee, has apparently taken his Bible belt off altogether.

Mitchell told his congregation—a congregation that includes superstar singer-songwriter Carrie Underwood—that practicing homosexuals can be card-carrying members of his Bible-believing protestant church and can even hold their gay weddings in the sanctuary.

"Our position that these siblings of ours, other than heterosexual, ... cannot have the full privileges of membership, but only partial membership, has changed," Mitchell told the church.

"Full privileges are extended now to you with the same expectations of faithfulness, sobriety, holiness, wholeness, fidelity, godliness, skill and willingness. That is expected of all. Full membership means being able to serve in leadership and give all of your gifts and to receive all the ...

Prayer pride and answered prayer boasting. God is allegedly hearing and answering everyone! And so we end up with 40,000 + "denominations." Merely blaming God for sin and false doctrine. That "little voice" is one's own wicked imagination.

He is a great article on this despicable decision by a hireling.

Makes sense if that church's god is the pastor. I also heard about carrie underwood making ungodly pro gay statements in the past so it also makes sense that she is a member. It also makes sense that this is a mega church since we all know that they scratch itching ears.

And it makes me think one of the most damaging things of (no longer real) churches that have welcomed into membership (quite different from welcoming them in to hear real preaching of the word of God) is that in rightfully hating the betrayal of Christ by these denominations it makes it more difficult to witness the love of God to lost sinners and plead with them of their urgent need of being right with God and that the Son of God willingly died to pay the penalty not just of homosexuality but of all sin,....
This was a response not to one of my posts but another's, amen, Michael

This "pastor" needs to be defrocked.

Thanks for your post
Your stand is an encouragement to me

Looks like another sad case of "Did God really say?"

Not too long back I received a call from one of the denominations requesting that I come back to the men's morning breakfast Bible study –-– I asked the gentleman hasn't your denomination accepted practicing homosexuals into the clergy and he replied "Yes" and I proceeded to tell him to run don't walk and get out of there – – – I told him that is'nt God's house anymore – – – I told him "don't be stupid and don't be fooled you know that is not Biblical" – – – I continued and Warned him to tell his brothers the same that they all need to get out of there –-– and in closing I told him I would die before I came back to that church.

Now I want to make it perfectly clear I do not hate the homosexuals I pray that God will touch them and open their eyes to the lie that they are living – – – I pray that He will heal all the scars and hurts in their lives and reveal Christ to them and save them to the uttermost!!!

We all need God's Grace and the only way we can partake of His Rich Forgiveness is through Jesus Christ His only begotten Son!!!
And never let us forget that in the light of that which we have been Forgiven we are always to stand ready to Forgive others
But let us not fail to Warn others in Truth

While a church of 1800 is big it still small enough for people to have contact with each other, it isn't a megachurch of 5 or 10+ thousand, now that's way too big. But in any case one knows the qualities of an elder, ]]Titus 1:5-11 and ]]1 Timothy 3:1-7 and to point out characteristics that would stop one from being an elder,

1 Corinthians 6
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.---]]NASB

This pastor isn't and shouldn't be an elder/pastor.

This illustrates the parable of mustard tree, which is logging all kind and having its root in this earth.
Mustard is classified as herbs and shouldn't grow as tree.
So, megachurches, social gospel.... All pleasers of flesh, using the name of God to satisfy their desires.

"Full privileges are extended now to you with the same expectations of faithfulness, sobriety, holiness, wholeness, fidelity, godliness, skill and willingness. That is expected of all.

The above Is from the article.

Well if he indeed follows through with the above, then all the genuine Christians will leave his church and it will come to a crashing end and he will be out of work. Or another possibility is it will actually cause his church to stay the same because there are no practicing Christians there anyway. And lastly, his stance my grow his church and make him an even more effective apostle of the king of darkness.

The only one of the above that I think is appropriate is for his church to either fire him or close their doors. It is impossible for a practicing homosexual to be faithful, sober, holy, whole, and exhibit fidelity, godliness, skill or willingness to do any of those things.

But, I hope he simply listens to the featured sermon by Albert N. Martin that discusses sexual sins and the way God views them and then he repents.

Our distinction from the world should be our struggle with the sin that is in all of us and our pursuit of holiness. With Gods grace and mercy we should continue this witness till the end. Americas church is Corinthian at best. Proud, boastful and all about me.

Michael, When I first read the story I thought about the mainline churches that went liberal years ago and who are now barely keeping their doors open. A mega church pastor showing his true colors doesn't affect me because I am not in his church. I would hope this news would stir up a faithful remnant at Grace Point who will speak out and find a faithful church to join. I'm glad the good Lord is exposing this wolf in sheep's clothing and I would hope Grace Point fires him. However, it sounds like the leadership is in agreement and if that's the case, the faithful Christian has no choice but to leave.

Please, local Pastors, exhort this errant brother to biblical churchmanship. If he repents, you have gained a brother. If not, exercise church discipline and remove him from the holy pastoral office. Then provide this body of Christ with sound biblical leadership and conserve integrity of the faith. Our time is unbelievably short brethren. Please do not grow weary in well-doing.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this 1517. There are several good churches near Gracepoint, and the sheep will flee this hireling.

It does concern me that a Megachurch Pastor IN THE HEART OF THE BIBLE BELT felt enough pressure to confirm the wicked lifestyle and gay marriage. If you have ever been to Franklin, its really conservative. Rick Warren, a favorite Pinata of the Pharisees around here, can faithfully support Traditional Marriage and he preaches in the heart of Sodom.
