Half of all children in the US will likely live with an unmarried mother
More than half of all American children will likely live with an unmarried mother at some point before they reach age 18, according to a report issued by Princeton University and Harvard University. The absence of a biological father increases the likelihood that a child will exhibit antisocial behaviors like aggression, rule-breaking and delinquency, the researchers report in the journal EducationNext. This finding -- which holds true regardless of a child's race -- is especially prevalent among young boys. As a result, these children are 40 percent less likely to finish high school or attend college.

Researchers Sara McLanahan of Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and Christopher Jencks of Harvard wrote their report to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the controversial "Moynihan Report," a 1965 study by sociologist Daniel Patrick Moynihan (who later served ...

1) True

2) Fixing the roof allows time to fix that which is under the roof, as any homeowner would attest. Allowing the roof to continue to leak will continue erode all that lies under it. The leaks are what has allowed the decay in the first place. Our foundation is the Lord, and has not shifted, but the occupants of the rooms have ignored the leaks.

3)These with an agenda patiently used political and legal means. How is it these means are only effective in one direction?

The sobering truth for us is, that barring divine intervention from God, it will probably take us some time to reverse things. One final thought. It would be terribly foolish for us to think that all of these children will end up drug addicts, criminsls, life long recipients of welfare, etc. No! Among these children are future polititions, judges, lawers, media people, businessmen, and those with the means to influence society and culture. And even here, barring a divine intervention of a merciful God, we cannot expect them to yield their power and influence according to Gods word.

Now, most women have to work to make ends meet
y'll, I know men who've done it all right and they can't get work and then homeschool the kids while the mom works, because otherwise they don't eat!

lots of odd stories these days because here in the west, despite the fake propaganda on tv, there is a serious lack of work for americans.

yes, men and women are sinning against each other and there is a lack of respect for marriage, and the kindly single mother who chimed in also has added her own experience of having to work and expected to work by other men.

the reality now is that very few can fit the traditional model because the model is not couched in a greater agrarian model. our economy is a highly controlled centralized oligarchy system in which people are seen as individuals and their part in the greater state, not as independent families.

in other words, the "haves" in our mainstream churches, that is those who had jobs, had stability, lived in a time where they had a choice could be a hand of mercy to those who are young and in the midst of a system that undermines parenting at every turn (see bathroom rules where men can walk into a girl's bathroom and vice versa) -- so Christians need to be a support to each other.

From the link:
"The tuition piece of the Obama proposal is Human Capital 1.0. It is locked in 1970s liberal orthodoxy. Congress should take the proposal, scrap it and rededicate the money toward programs that will actually boost completion, that will surround colleges, students and their families with supporting structures. We don’t need another program that will lure students into colleges only to have them struggle and drop out."

For once Brooks makes sense. As for 1970's liberal orthodoxy, that's all they know. Talk about reactionary.

toomuch, much of what you is very true and I think that most of us would be in support of a woman staying at home and taking care of the children and house.
It's admirable if you still hold to that conviction; children need their mothers indeed!
Feminism is just rebellion and has proliferated to the point that families reap what has been sown by the women who wanted to have their "freedom" to be in the workplace/have their career be a reflection of their independence, etc.
Now, most women have to work to make ends meet and many men are so feminized or lazy that they are more than happy to let women help support them or even make them responsible for financially taking care of their own children. How many children even know who their dads are or even get support from the ones who are absent? Sin begets unpleasant consequences and redefines what is normal. It's unlikely that things will change course now. It's a very good time to know the Lord-our only real Hope!

I am wondering why everyone assumes the woman has a choice when it comes to working! Oh yeah sure their men will support them not working! Sure! I am a single mother and my church is very disapproving of stay at home mothers. I was only approved of when I was working, when my work contract ended I was constantly asked when I was going to get another one. Nobody cared that I have a child at home and nobody to care for her but me! Not one person! All they cared about was making sure I was out in the workforce and not a "deadbeat" mother taking off the state and being supported by their taxes! As for married women with children working, I can assure you their husbands would leave them if they didn't work, as one friend of mine who is in that position confided to me recently. Good luck trying to find a man who will support you to stay at home and mind his children, they don't exist anymore. If a man finds out that is what you want when you marry and have children, he will run a mile. Why can't you all stop blaming feminism, instead blame the vast majority of men who just want the money their wives get from working, they do not care if this means their children are dumped in childcare facilities from when they are 6 months old. STOP BLAMING WOMEN ALL THE TIME, its the MEN

Just wondering accuses me of being unsympathetic.
I'm just wondering how that is a reasonable conclusion based on my post.
I was merely pointing out that we have reaped from that to which we have sown.
The wages of sin is death. Consequences of ill doing are never pretty.
I included myself in the "we"; we have all contributed to the ills of this society but we don't have to continue on that course. I would just hope that we might figure it out already. I'm guessing that most won't; idols are highly prized here and God will let them aid in our undoing.

Proverbs 31:14-18
"She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

"She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

"She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

"She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

"She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

"She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night."

Proverbs 31:24

When God created Eve, she was pure, lovely, and perfect. He intended her to remain that way, but she chose to go another way. This brought sorrow and pain to Eve and it will bring the same to us today.
It is not necessary for us to learn by our own experience. We can comprehend right and wrong from the mistakes of others. Eve presents to us the challenge of accepting her failure as our schoolteacher.
We do not have to disobey and suffer the consequences before we can understand what God wants us to do.
We have the example set forth to us by Eve and by the other women of the Bible and Gods own Words so we can order our lives.

Reading this article brings to mind conversations I've had on women staying home (which is Biblical and what the Bible teaches!!!) And for whatever reason professing christians choose to justify women working instead of sticking with Scripture. Talk about frustrating. Working outside the home tends to make women the bread winner and gives them the attitude of "Ms Independamt" and "Dont need a man". Feminism. Quit justiying it.
Great observation and comment SF. Just not sure how it applies to single moms and their children. Sorry, I am dense here but I don't see the connection.

The family is the basis of society and Godly authority on earth. God ordained and establish family as the means by which TWO parents teach and demonstrate authority in society.

Society today have misguided women to the extent that women fail in their duty to God as wife and mother. Thus they have defaulted the duty which God has created in them and assigned them to in the family and community.
The church too has destroyed the God ordained role of wife and mother.

Thus the family itself has suffered and disintegrated and all but disappeared from view and mind.

Women growing up in todays world are taught to believe in career and thus are more committed to mammon and worldliness than to their God given role and duty.

We might pray for Proverbs 31 type women but with the evil that happens all around us today - abortion - homosexual perversion - apostasy - the flood (immigration) of blasphemous idolatrous religions - It is no wonder that the foundation of society marriage and the family is abandoned by this reprobate world.

Prov 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

That was me until "the grace of God appeared ... " Rehabilitation, reformation, moral indoctrination did not help. It was when I realized that I sinned against a holy God no Christian told me about. I did not know that Jesus was God incarnate; died for my sin(s), etc. I hung the laundry of others out on the lines self-righteous, pharisaaical, emotional vascillating judgmental friends (so-called), who were in the same judgment as myself. I was blind. But when the grace of God appeared (and judgment), I went to the temple found in Luke 18:10 and wanted to die that day and in that place. The Law came by the man, Moses, who was angry with those the LORD God wanted to save.
