Andraé Crouch kindled 'new dimension' of worship

Legendary gospel songwriter and performer Andraé Crouch has died at the age of 72.

Crouch's songs -- among them: "My Tribute," "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power," "Soon and Very Soon," "Bless the Lord" and "Through It All" -- have become standards and are included in the hymnals of both African American and Anglo churches.

He was a major figure in the "Jesus Movement" of the '60s and '70s, which led to the rise in popularity of contemporary Christian and gospel music. He is credited with pioneering the urban gospel sound, blending elements of traditional gospel, R&B, jazz and pop.

Crouch's sound became so synonymous with gospel music that anytime a mainstream artist or movie studio needed a gospel song, he was their first call. His work in writing, arranging and directing can be heard on recordings by Elvis Presley, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Paul Simon and others, as well as on ...

Thank you,Jim, for the links. Dr. Alan Cairns, John MacArthur and Justin Peters, among others, are very well versed on the topic of the spiritual gifts of prophecy, tongues and the gift of healing (the sign gifts)
Thanks to Dr. Cairns, I could see that the gift of healing is singular not plural; the one who receives the gift is not the "healer" but the recipient.Thank the Lord for many of these solid preachers and teachers.
The Strange Fire conference is another highly recommended resource. I would be surprised if there are many on here who aren't familiar with it as well.

I am automatically wary of CCM since it has it's roots in Voodoo. Strong statement, I know, but the evidence is irrefutable.
The other telling givaway is that CCM, like rock, does not follow the rules of Music: Melody enhanced by Harmony and gently driven by Rhythmn.

runethegoon, I'm rather surprised you haven't heard of him, I have heard of him, and the song "Soon and Very Soon," I have heard. Apparently he was also well known in the secular world, ]]Legendary Gospel Singer Andraé Crouch Dead at 72.

Unfortunately, he "pastored" a church, New Christ Memorial Church, --along with his wife! I have a feeling that a lot of their preaching was in music? What a mess.

"Jesus Movement?" I think the following is appropriate.
John MacArthur wrote:
The attitude Paul calls for is incompatible with the suggestion that we should lay doctrine aside for the sake of unity. It cannot be reconciled with the opinion that hard truths should be downplayed to make God’s Word more palatable for unbelievers. It is contrary to the notion that personal experience takes precedence over objective truth. God has given us His truth objectively in His Word. It is a treasure that we should protect at all costs.

This is the opposite of reckless faith. Paul leaves no room for rote tradition. He makes no place for a blind, irrational faith that refuses to consider the authenticity of its object and just accepts at face value everything that claims to be true. He rules out the kind of “faith” that is driven by feelings, emotion, and the human imagination. Instead, we are to identify “that which is good” by examining everything carefully, objectively, rationally—using Scripture as our standard.

That is not a personal condemnation of Crouch Cody, that is a fact. No follower of Christ would knowingly delve into wicked practices.
As for David, yes, he praised God. However, his music is nowhere close to what secular music is, which does NOT praise or exalt God. It's shameful to even attempt to make such a comparison.
pennned, you're welcome. I do not desire to be divisive, however, I feel Cody has launched an unwarranted attack and twisted my words.

Well ladybug, I did a cursory search regarding Andrae Crouch and like you I wouldn't condemn him but I would say that if he was a Christian, then anyone who claims the name of Christ is a Christian. But I hope he was.

The idea that God elects - But waits for the individual sinner to do something first is just the reprint of the old RCC/Arminian salvation by works.

First you refer to God's "foreknowledge"

But then you down grade the Lord by suggesting that HIS election is not connected to HIS foreknowing whom????

The same God who foreknows - also elects.

"God from all eternity did, by the most wise and holy counsel of his own will, freely and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass" (WCF)
REF: Rom 9:15, 18; 11:33; Eph 1:11; Heb 6:17.

Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being (1) predestinated according to the (2) purpose of (3) him who worketh (4) all things after the counsel of (5) his own will:
Predestined by God.
God's purpose established in man.
God's work established in man.
God's own counsel.
God's will.

You can't even squeeze anything else by anyone or anything into that Totally Sovereign complete work. Praise be to God.

To then suggest that God in foreKNOWING, predestinating, counsel, will and purpose has nothing to do with GOD's own SHEEP (John 10:14) - is flabbergasting???

God hasn't chosen some people to be saved and others to be lost. Yes, God foreknows who will be saved because He is outside of time and knows the end from the beginning. He has chosen us "in Christ", that is, God has chosen those who will believe in His Son to be saved.

There are many different elect groups mentioned in Scripture. Elect angels, Israel was called God's elect in the Old Testament - and we know all Israel won't be saved, there were elect believers. Election has nothing to do with personal salvation in Scripture, it is to do with sanctification.

Peter says it is the will of God for "all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth". That contradicts the idea that God has already chosen who would be saved and who would be lost.

ah ladies, can we have a conversation without it turning divisive? Cody (he, she?) disagrees on a point and considers you a fellow believer to ask questions. That is compliment to both of you. Ladybug, thanks for the link, indeed the music industry tells a story that is far more occultic than we often want to admit. I have taken the time to see some recent videos, a few moments is enough, there are satanic rituals going on.

I don't know enough about the gentleman to say if he was compromising or witnessing. I know I've been in some dark places to witness of Christ.

Now I didnt say Elton John Madonna Fowler or Elvis Presley were goin to heaven I jut said that you can't condemn Andre Crouch which you did when you said no Christian would hang out with those three and if you think that all music is bad you had best read your bible cause David had a band and he played the harp and he wrote most of the psalms the bible also calls him a man at lifter gods own heart so he couldn't live in a lifestyle of music if it was wrong

But a lost man is spiritually dead and a dead man cant embrace anything so it is all God . God has already chosen who will be saved and he doesn't ask their permission cause if he had to ask he wouldn't be all powerful its called election its also called hyper Calvinism by those who preach free will

John Y.

IF you would read the link provided, you'd see how 'Baptist doctrine' has gone south concerning the Bible. Yes, the Holy Spirit MUST regenerate the sinner before the sinner cries out as the tax collector. However, to tell unregenerate sinners they can choose Jesus is not biblical. Read this John Y.]]http://www.oldpathsbaptist.org/decisional.html

Cody,
The link I gave is from a Christian Ministry that exposes the evil of all kinds of music.
I recommend you watch it first, then comment.
I didn't state any certain person was in hell, however, IF you examine the 'fruit' of the likes of Elvis, Madonna, and Elton John, who's well known for his homosexual lifestyle, it's safe to say these folks are NOT followers of Christ. Madonna practices kabbalah, and Elvis delved into occult practices and read books from madame Blavatsky, a known occultist. He was also a womanizer...are these fruits of a child of God Cody? Hardly.
Filter any and everything you read/see through the word of God Cody, then you will not be steered wrong.

John Y,
To claim one has the ability to respond/accept/embrace Christ IS decisional regeneration. Your ignorance of the Scriptures and what they teach is obvious. Faith and salvation are a gift of God, as Ephesians 2:8-9 clearly teach. The call to repent and believe are not a choice, it's a biblical command. May God give you ears to hear.
"Decisional regeneration, simply stated, is any doctrine which maintains that an individual is saved by a mere 'decision of the will.' That is, doctrine which teaches that men can be saved by merely making a conscious choice to be saved... Finally, it is also true that an individual is willing to be saved when God has worked completely in them. No individual is saved against his will. But let it be perfectly clear, that man is only willing after a divine operation of the Spirit of God on their heart." source - http://www.oldpathsbaptist.org/decisional.html
It is the Holy Spirit who prompts individuals to embrace Jesus as their Personal Savior and then the individual embraces Jesus as their Personal Savior. That is not decisional regeneration. Baptist doctrine which comes directly from the Bible states that salvation comes only through embracing Jesus as ones Personal Savior.
