Stanford: Dean for Religious Life claims churches should focus less on religion, more on art

The church needs to focus more on art and less on religion and converting people in an effort to become less “churchy,” according to Stanford University’s Dean for Religious Life, The Very Reverend Dr. Jane Shaw.

“I think people are always slightly surprised that I’m not very churchy as a person,” Shaw told the Palo Alto Online in an interview. “I don’t think church is to be more churchy. I think church is about, anyone should be welcome. I’m really interested in how you welcome many different kind of constituencies, certainly not convert them, not even necessarily to do religion all the time.” ...

One has to plan more when using the Android app to enter any lengthy comment, I'm sorry that I didn't provide that care in my couple of messages, especially messing up Bible verses. So,

3 John 1
9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say.
10 For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, neither does he himself receive the brethren, and he forbids those who desire to do so, and puts them out of the church.

1 Timothy 5
19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.
20 Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also may be fearful of sinning.
21 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality.
22 Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thus share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin.---]]NASB

Good verses appropriate to the comments Mike and I had. I will try to use more care, next time.

Mike, I appreciated your article and I assume that, that behavior still happens apostate churches like the Roman Catholic one, and other false Protestant ones as well.

yes, Mike, I 19  Don’t receive an accusation against an elder, except at the word of two or three witnesses. 20 Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear. 21 I command you in the sight of God, and Christ Jesus, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality. 22 Lay hands hastily on no one, neither be a participant in other men’s sins. Keep yourself pure.did find the article that you referred to as interesting. I have to admit I haven't heard of that recently, but it certainly probably happen in the modern world as well. So, I'm glad you brought it up. I should have put up the rest of verses that surround the one that I quoted:
1 Timothy 5

To be clear ]]The Diotrephes Syndrome was written by C.W. Booth, someone I know nothing more about than this imho brief and well written article of some grossly abuse "Church Disciple" not to protect and guard the people of God against false teachers, not as means of seeking to restore someone who is decieved into error, but for someone's own preeminence and fleshly advancement and to punish, even to destroy those in his (or her) way.

In the fear of the LORD excommunication of false teachers, the leaving the determinedly unrepentant alone to go their own away, the willfully blind leading the deliberately ignorant (Biblical) is way different from corporeal or capital punishment (military assault?)of those genuinely or maliciously labeled as heretics to satisfy ones unforgiving(?) self-righteous(?) lusts and malice towards dissenters (Unbiblical)

May God lead us not into the temptation of abusing nor neglecting Church Discipline

Your article has an interesting point, Michael, for further information on Church discipline, I would suggest the sermon, ]]How the Church Must Deal with Sin and the written article ]]Why Adulterous Pastors Should Not Be Restored. Gives some idea how sin in the church should be handled. Of course it has to be done impartially as well,

If my memory serves me right, church means in latin " the called or chosen ones " so this woman with lots of letters behind her name wants to be religious but not called or set apart. I know she is a member of the highly esteemed world of academia but to quote bugs bunny on this issue " what a marroon."

She isn't "Very Reverend" since conservative churches, rightly, don't recognize the existence of ]]Women Preachers

Now, she may like the pagan temples, otherwise known as Romish churches, this a reason why ]]Come Out of the Catholic Church and not go into it!

Then, Maybe She Should Become The Stanford University Dean For
"ART LIFE" (REALLY 'RAT LIFE [Really Death]' ) !

YouTube: John Ramirez

"We Have Two Hundred Pastors Quitting The Church Of Jesus Christ Every Month...What You Don't Expose You're In Bed With...You Know, Some Demons Are Saying 'You Don't Need To Expose Me Because You're Going To Need Me Next Week Anyway.'... So The Reason Why They (The Pastors) Are Not Exposing It (The Demons &-Or The Sins Connected To/With The Demons); And The Reason Why They Are Not Exposing It (Exposing & Dealing With The Demons Via The Bible/Biblical Doctrine & Practice Of 'DELIVERANCE') Is Because They Don't Want To Bring 'Terror' Into The Church--THEY DON'T WANT TO BRING 'CONFUSION' INTO THE CHURCH...BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, HEY, IN THE LONG RUN I NEED TO KEEP THE PEOPLE HAPPY BECAUSE I NEED THE TITHES AND THE OFFERINGS TO PAY FOR MY CAR AND TO PAY FOR MY HOUSE..."--JOHN RAMIREZ
