The World's 10 Most Popular Bible Verses of 2014
Philippians made out well this year. The New Testament letter authored by the Apostle Paul contained 3 of the top 10 Bible verses that were most bookmarked, highlighted, and shared with YouVersion’s Bible app in 2014, according to an end-of-year analysis released today [infographic below].

The No. 1 spot went to Romans 12:2 ["Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...." (NIV)]. But the fourth chapter of Philippians took No. 2 with verse 8, No. 3 with verse 6, and No. 6 with verse 7.

In order, the verses read:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, ...

Does this news story ask us, "What is your favorite Bible verse?"
I don't think so.
I am more interested in what others think of the subject of the news story--the YouVersion of the Bible being used throughout the world on smartphones.
Have you used it?
Do you know anyone that uses it?

I cant say I have a favorite verse, for there are just too many I am fond of, but if I had to narrow it down, I would pick Psalms chapter 1 though it is not just one verse but six.

Psalms 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Aha! I knew there was a reason why all those young people were using their smartphones while the sermon was being preached.

And, my oh my, there are so many young people going to church these days with their phones, it is getting hard to get into a pew without feeling crowded!

Thanks YouVersion for helping get young people back into our churches!

Even better: with 7 out of 10 of the world's inhabitants able to read the Bible in their own language on their smartphones, this might even make the Wycliffe Bible Translators obsolete!
All we need to do is hire the best translators at the United Nations to translate versions for the other 3 of 10 people.
And we won't need to send missionaries, just smartphones with the YouVersion installed!

It's really lovely to see all the various favourite verses different ones have put up. Here is another one of mine:

1 John 4:10 KJV
(10) Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Isaiah 66:1,2-
Thus says the Lord:
"Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you will build for me, and what is the place of my rest?
All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be,
Declares the Lord.
But this is the one to whom I will look;
He who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.

They are indeed, Dorcas. Here is another textlet which I favour highly:

1 Corinthians 1:30-31 KJV
(30) But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
(31) That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Anne, not being critical at all, because sometimes a single verse can be of use, but still it should be remembered,
Gil Rugh said or, wrote:
The Bible is God's communication to man concerning who He is, how sinful man can be in a personal relationship with Him and how to live in that relationship.

This communication is perfect, as God is perfect and unchanging in its truthfulness and relevance because God who spoke it is truthful and unchanging.

The challenge for us is to approach the Bible to learn and study what it says without reading into it what we want it to say. There are certain principles that can be applied that will allow us to rightly divide the Word and understand what God has said, and what He meant when He inspired the men who wrote it down. The basic rules of interpretation discussed follow the literal, grammatical, historical hermeneutic.

summary for, ]]Principles of Bible Interpretation.

Look at the Matthew Henry commentaries. He logically grouped verses together, so the proper, unified, and usually single meaning could be arrived at.
