American Atheists 'Skip Church' This Christmas Billboards Aimed at Non-Believers

American Atheists Christmas billboard reading “Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is to skip church! I’m too old for fairy tales," released on Dec. 1, 2014.

American Atheists President David Silverman has said that his group's holiday billboards this year, with a message to "skip church" this Christmas, are aimed at atheists who are living with theists in mixed families and are under pressure to participate in religious activities.

"That little girl on the billboard symbolizes the atheists who go along to get along, attending and possibly tithing a church that preaches a religion in which they don't believe, for no other reason than habit or familial pressure," Silverman told The Christian Post in an email on Thursday. ...

The scriptural parts of the Mass are accepted by Jesus as worship of Him. Nobody in their right mind believes celebrating the Birth of Jesus is an offense to Jesus.

“The scriptural parts of the Mass are accepted by Jesus as worship of Him. Nobody in their right mind believes celebrating the Birth of Jesus is an offense to Jesus.”

So then, John Yurich. Is this to say that the LORD God received Abel’s scriptural offering, and rejected Cain’s unscriptural offering? Or, is it more like King Saul saving what he thought was the best of the sheep?

Just wondering.

Hi Christopher who wrote:"...but see a world filled with false religions and cults which support the erasure of the God of the bible..."
Like the roman catholics who integrated their "jesus and mary" into the mess of the 12/25 date?
It's ironic because the "atheists" think that they're attacking God but they are actually wiser and more in line with the Bible than a lot of true Christians when they insist on kicking Christ/God out of the pope's favorite day. If they only knew. If only some Christians would figure it out. It sure would save a lot of energy/wasted time.
When the "atheists" all unite this time of the year to wage war on "c-mess", they, unknowingly, are taking a stand for truth (insofar as they like to omit Christ from the equation).

I wouldn't say that mainstream media, etc, is bursting with athiests. I think they are really in the minority but are heard loud and clear because the laws of the land have given them a giant soapbox and a bull horn to scream foul whenever they wish, not to mention the constant attention they get for their litigious ways as they mock, assault, and try to erase God from the minds of the next generation. No, I still see very few real athiests, and around the same number of agnostics, but see a world filled with false religions and cults which support the erasure of the God of the bible that give the athiests a very strong hand of either support, or just as damaging, a "we don't care" attitude because the God of the bible is of no interest to them.

Do your homework. When one says that it is" not ChristMass but Christmas".
And you, John Yurich, of all people should know. This is what the Roman Catholic church named the beloved pagan celebration of the winter solstice.
Again, what were those Christian ancestors of ours who didn't celebrate christmass thinking/missing?
Oh yeah! They must not have received the memo of the new tradition of christmass...hmmm The Bible speaks to traditions...VAIN ONES, at that!
And Christians today celebrate it...because? What changed from that time when Christians didn't to now?

I hate to interrupt what seems to be an interesting exchange between 2 regular posers on this website, but to get back to the story...that campaign for atheists is a true waste of time, since church attendance has been going down for years, and atheists dominate the mainstream news and entertainment areas of US culture.
It is true that churches spends lots of time rehearsing their choirs and money to hire musicians for a special service on the one Sunday (not on Christmas Day, usually, but a week or so in advance, and this time on Dec 14 since Dec 21 is 'too close' to Dec 25) with the intent of increasing attendance among the unsaved.
This is as traditional as putting up Christmas decorations at work and at home. Did you know that the Japanese love to put up Christmas lights, yet a very small percentage (less than ten, I think) of their population is Christian.
Check it out by searching online for "Japan Christmas Light Show").
What is the result of all these displays, special services, etc? Just look at your own church---does attendance go up after Christmas, with all the people saved from that service?
I've never seen any profit, Harold. Good post.

By the way, taking the Lord's name in vain is breaking one of the 10. One may be ignorant or may mean well when they connect Christ with mass...but, it is a serious offense.
It is not ChristMass but Christmas. The Holy Spirit guided Luther to retain the celebration of the Birth of Jesus in the Lutheran Church. And the Holy Spirit also guided Luther to retain the Mass minus the unscriptural parts in the Lutheran Church. What has taking the Lord's name in vain got to do with the Mass? The scriptural parts of the Mass are accepted by Jesus as worship of Him. Nobody in their right mind believes celebrating the Birth of Jesus is an offense to Jesus.

SteveR "Not mention its the time the worlds greatest evangelists are the most fruitful "
???? There is no way for you to know that. ALL conjecture. More likely than not, the "fruit" is much like the ground in which the seed is thrown but not well received. Of course, it's possible for some to come to the true saving knowledge of Christ now...but they would have, at any rate.
Here's a suggestion:
Invite people to church for services on/around the date of the 25th and have a regular church service! I hear that faith comes by hearing the Word of God!!!
Skip the lights and show. Speak the Word.
That is the formula,right?

These are the same friends and neighbors that we can invite to church any other time of the year as well.If they hold out for the c & e services only, it's more likely than not that they're more interested in the "spirit" and all of its lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and pride of life that it offers for these "special" services.
Why are Christians so moved during these christ-mess services? If they truly know Christ as their Savior and Lord, this day is certainly not above all of the others.
What exactly is christ-mess? And what is your problem anyway with celebrating the Birth of Jesus? Luther had no problem retaining celebrating the Birth of Jesus in the Lutheran Church as Luther was guided by the Holy Spirit to retain celebrating the Birth of Jesus in the Lutheran Church and was not insane.

christ-mess services??

What a wicked thing to say

My post wasnt to stop Christians from inviting their friends and neighbors to Church 52 weeks/yr. Christians should. My post was to reduce the lies & myths from people like yourself who degrade these Christmas services

Its propaganda targeting the unchurched, not consolation for other atheists. While Im not crazy about many of the Pagan traditions surrounding the holiday, it is the one week the Church can best reach many in need. And many Churches do have Spirit filled Christmas services that we all can invite friends and neighbors to
