Hundreds of Bibles Flood Lesbian Mayor Annise Parker's Office

Christians who oppose the Houston mayor's attempt to censor what pastors say about her gay-rights agenda have sent hundreds of Bibles to her office at the request of a prominent conservative commentator.

Mayor Annise Parker, who is open about her lesbianism, acknowledged this week that her office had received Bibles from across the country following a protest campaign launched by former Arkansas Gov. and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who is now a news analyst on FOX News.

"I would like to ask every pastor in America, send her your sermons," Huckabee said on his FOX News show on Oct. 20. "Everybody watching the show ought to send her a Bible."

A spokesperson with the mayor's office said that between 500 and 1,000 Bibles had arrived at the mayor's office so far. ...

GS, his newswithviews is very good. I'm not going to endorse or not his form of church gov, but he did run as a constitutionalist and did not get into all the military/industrial war fervor. his son wrote on the issue of our times, romans 13....

Dolores, I just saw your comment. Was wondering if you had seen it, glad to hear the subpoenas were dropped.

Well, I didn't attend, simulcast on Stand Up Sunday but a friend called me today and said the Church was filled to capacity and we have balconies. I knew it was announced in the Gazette, so I am sure there were many from other churches also. It was nation wide. Now, if Christians would just get out and vote today...btw, the Attorney General of Texas got involved is the reason the subpoenas were dropped.

If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal!

Christropher, thanks for responding. Sometimes it does get hairy but I think some on here really enjoy these debates. They agree with each other and that's fine but if anyone else disagrees, we are made to feel unworthy or something I can't really explain. It shouldn't be that way among Christians. I love you and pennned and others on here that I sense really are trying to help each other with love, yes we do need to teach and admonish and rebuke, I see that clearly but out of love for that person. My husband has not been saved but he is a good, moral man and I love him dearly. Our Sunday School class has treated him with kindness. They are a bunch of down to earth chtistian men and some are hunters and he gives those deer that he has killed. One is a Viet Nam vet that can no longer hunt and loves deer meat. Him and his wife took us to a steak house and paid for our meals. I don't have to say a word to him. He knows me and how I feel. Anyway, I didn't read what you said, Dopey did so I'm a little confused on that. Will take your advice and try to stay out of trouble.

No pennned, I didn't. Really, didn't see the point in what they were going to say. It had all been said and it is in God's hands actually, now. We are living in the last of the last days and we need to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Sow the seed as God leads.Blessings to you.

Hi Dolores, I just read your comment so didn't catch the sermon. Sorry.
I don't remember the conversation, but I know, well, others said that Dopey impersonated her with a few comments, so I wonder if it was even from her.
Anyway, there are topics and opinions from time to time that I keep to myself because I know they would mean trouble for me so I just keep my lips zipped. Going against the majority can be distressing at times, but if nobody can prove to me, using the bible, but argues opinion only, well, I keep the door open. I've learned not to push any topics too far or argue against others because they go nowhere.

well, I think what has been encouraging about this thread is that so many believe that we need to be salt and that Christians need to speak the truth in love.

Helps, thank you!! That's the verse. Sermon was good today. He preached on 2nd Timothy 4:1-8 What does God command us to do as we live in these last days? Title Crunch Time. SteveR, it very well could mean vain flattery which sometimes used to try to manipulate or just hide their real feelings which are actually deceitful. These verses pop up in my mind then I have to look it up. Not sure about the secret love concept either. Mine was more to the kisses of an enemy. Anyway, that was the verse, Helps, well you are what your moniker says. Proverbs 27:6 is what he preached about and without naming names talked people with itching ears and wanting them scratched using his dog as an example of loving to have her ears scratched. Even read aloud the comment Victoria Olsteen said wiithout mentioning names. Funny, he cleared up things for me and confirmed how I felt about certain things exacrly. Thanks again for your help here.

Very Possibly Helps

Proverbs 27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love. Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

The Books of Wisdom exhort similar ideas in several different ways, Agree if we include vs 5 we capture the value of rebuke & that 'secret' concept that Dolores mentioned. However, I wasnt sure if 'better than secret love' was the full intention, or just her recognition of vain flattery.

With my rep around here, I thought it was better to side on the side of caution

Happy reading!
Back to Lurk mode.
Josh M, too bad Paul didn't have Phil Johnson's insight, when he faced religious persecution in Acts 22 he used a a right granted to him by a civil authority to protest and stop the persecution. (Acts 22:25) Just like these people are planning on using a first amendment right they have to peaceable assembly. Just like people go and vote, for instance, against a law allowing the sale of liquor that is on their ballot. Part of being salt, which even Phil admits, is being a presrvative in society against evil and for good. We live in a representative republic that gives us input that the early church did not have in the society in which they lived, so saying they didn't do this in those days is NOT applicable.

We are to pray that we live a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty, part of putting feet to those prayers is using God permitted means to make that a reality and leaving the results in God's hands.
