Pope tells super rich, bankers to find some ethics
Pope Francis on Monday denounced those getting rich through speculation in financial markets, calling on them to use their investments for the good of humanity.

"It is increasingly intolerable that financial markets are shaping the destiny of peoples rather than serving their needs, or that the few derive immense wealth from financial speculation while the many are deeply burdened by the consequences," he said.

The pope, who has said he wants to create "a poor church for the poor", has frequently spoken out against the "idolatry of money" since his election last year. ...

The track record of Progressivism & Marxism should be enough to refute the superstition that all poverty can be eliminated with money alone. It is a complex issue with few materialistic solutions like that. And BTW, Jesus said, "For ye have the poor always with you."

Rome's hypocrisy isn't the whole story; there is much history & philosophy behind it. Enmity towards banking & capitalism starts at least with Aristotle, whose critique of interest & market prices was repeated by Thomas Aquinas in his Summa Theologica, virtually a 2nd bible for the Catholic Church. It was John Calvin who suggested (with much reluctance) that not all loans are usurious; this inaugurated the association of Protestantism with Free Enterprise. This is not to say that Protestants have been consistent about it since then, esp. now.

Irony is, the RCC in its heyday depended upon the Medici, Bardi, Peruzzi, & other Italian bankers, who used Bills of Exchange to earn what in effect was interest.

What a joke! The Antichrist is calling upon investors to use their wealth for the good of humanity. Meanwhile, what is he doing with the stockpile of money and priceless artifacts the Papacy has amassed over the centuries. He sits upon a mass of wealth sealed in a vault of 16 ft. thickness plotting the overthrow of world governments. Capitalism has done more to help humanity than the communism propagated by Papacy.

He wants to create a poor church for the poor? Isn't that rich? Has he checked the vatican basement lately? He can certainly more than afford to build countless poor churches. Problem is, this world is already full of poor churches, when measured by doctrine and theology.

True, Diane, though sadly the further priests climb the ladder of power in the Romish Church the less likely they are to become Christians. I don't know of any Pope who was a Christian. However, some priest have made the Pilgrimage From Rome.

Even when the Pope does tell the truth he condemns himself as a hypocrite who talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk himself. The Pope acts and sounds just like the Religious Pharisees in the Bible that Jesus condemned so harshly.

Amen, dear brother in Nebraska! You said in a few words what I was contemplating saying in a few more. Suffice it to say that the Vatican houses billions, perhaps trillions of dollars worth of treasures. The pope's hat alone is reported to be bedecked with jewels worth millions. Yet, he has the audacity to rebuke legitimate businesses for not giving enough to the poor! Knowing however, that it is only by God's grace that we are saved, let us pray that God in His mercy would grant the pope repentance from his own work's righteousness and call upon the name of The Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
