Liberals, Democrats Need the Religious Left
A "Religious Left" movement will remain an essential component of the Progressive Movement in America, yet it will never be as important to liberalism as the Christian Right is to conservatism, a new Brookings Institution report by E. J. Dionne and William Galston argues.

While the Religious Left is a lot more ideologically diverse than the Christian Right, the report notes, (there is no agreement on abortion, for instance) the disparate strands of religious progressives can unite on the broad theme of "economic justice," or advocacy on behalf of the poor.

While much of the discussion regarding religion and politics over the last 30 years has been mostly about the Christian Right and conservatism, the report shows some demographic trends that suggest religious Democrats will become more significant while religious Republicans will diminish in the future. ...

Ah Jim, you are quite in error. But I realize you don't actually believe Romans 13:1-4, even though you refer to it from time to time.

I take it back, don't learn from history, instead, be doomed to repeat it.

Mike of N.Y., you finally noticed that! Remember I've always said I would rather see a Free Mason, conservative Jew, or mainliner in political office, than an idiotlogue.

So you finally admit there is no biblical basis for it, but is just your personal opinion that no Christian should be in politics. You're making progress. Maybe you'll figure out what the biblical limits to Caesar's authority are next.

Jim, you could put that historical knowledge to good use and see history repeating itself.

Penny, at least in the distant past, I was very good at Far Eastern history. Long before Communism the Emperors had instituted neighborhood watches -- on steroids I noticed an interview with a recent Chinese immigrant to this country, who thought American society was too loose. The Confucian model of society is a rigid one, so the Chinese mindset, in general, is different from the American one.

Mike of N.Y., you finally noticed that! Remember I've always said I would rather see a Free Mason, conservative Jew, or mainliner in political office, than an idiotlogue. After all these years you finally got it!

Oh, and while I'm an admirer of Ian Paisley, when he sought various political offices, I pointed out he should either quit pastoring to be a politician or stop being a politician to be a pastor. I consider it one or the other but not both for these positions. One of the few smart things I believe his Unholiness JPII did was tell priests stop running for public office -- they had plenty of henchmen in the Catholic laity to do that. I thoroughly eschew theonomy, Notes on Reconstructionism.

I remember reading stories of young communists in China who thought they were "equalizing the wealth", they were paid to move the populations around and take from those who had, and lived miserable lives. There would come a point where if they lived through it, they realized they were just being used along with their countrymen. Usually would just try to slip out of such work and do their own thing. People eventually get tired of the surveillance police spy mentality, and realize that if they are going to live they have to reestablish some semblance of society. The concern I have with this process, is that this time, with the technology and currency shift, we may move into one world gov, in either case allegiance will be demanded to Babylon, and many who thought they were Christians will give Babylon (Cesar) his due worship, and Christ will say....

well, Mike, I watched the Australian Broadcasting System more than the American one. They have a Conservative government. They always start calling themselves the Republican Party of Australia. one difference at all besides cutting government services, they also plan to raise taxes, temporarily.

Well, Start if one doesn't want to be a Christian--he can be a politician.
Matthew 20

25  But Jesus summoned them, and said, “You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you shall beyour servant. 27 Whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Actually, the liberal wing of nominal Christians have a better reason to be in politics, John, then conservatives who should know better. You didn't see the Apostle Paul trying to be a politician. I would think you could say that there is no such thing as a Christian politician. In any event, even conservatives should be nauseated by the right wing propaganda machine that is cranking out commercials on TV nowadays.
Plutocrats Want to Own Your Vote
So you are saying you have the right to promote and support at every chance a political ideology and propaganda but others don't ? and to do so is unchristian....odd.

Of course the liberals and the Democrats need the "Religious Left" because the "Religious Left" are insane like the liberals and the Democrats just on the basis of being on the "Religious Left".
