Blasphemy: Urban Outfitters Selling Drunk Jesus T-Shirt

Urban Outfitters is certainly no stranger to scandal. The clothing retail chain has drawn many critics over the years, regardless of background or lifestyle. Its T-shirts have featured slogans and images that offended Jews, African Americans, even Native Americans. By now, the company should have learned to use a bit more tact in their marketing, but their newest merchandise proves that’s far from happening. According to Abram Brown of Forbes, Urban Outfitters celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by releasing their latest shirt: The Drunk Jesus.

Brown stated,

“For St. Patrick’s Day, Urban is selling a green T-shirt with an image of a young guy with a full mug of beer. He’s bearded with shaggy hair and what look like rays of sunlight radiate around him. It is unquestionably Jesus Christ holding up that brew with a cheery smile. And if there’s any doubt about His identity, Urban included this catchy ...

Ephesians 4:2-3 "With all lowliness and meekness, with lonsuffering, forebearing one another in love;
3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

Christopher,
Sadly there are those who aspire to bring the brethren down, instead of keeping the unity of the Spirit like Scripture teaches.

...Attention seeking is not my end game and I am perfectly happy hanging in the shadows without ever seeing my name typed out.

Thanks Dolores. I feel like I should add something to everyone. I feel like there are some who can't stand to hear others being complimented and I know I tend to post a lot so my name is out there a lot as a result. I'd like to say something about myself: while I greatly apprectiate them, compliments make me uncomfortable because I always feel bad for any names left out so my intention is never to seek them. I feel like some always try real hard to drag me down right after because they don't like it. Also, just so we are clear, I don't think I'm better than anyone. In fact, I'm probably worse than most here combined and have nothing to brag about whatsoever. I'm the opposite of vain and have nobody around here, so hearing something good once in a while does confirm that I'm at least doing/saying something right once in a while. Nothing more and no reason to hate.

Strat Wtote:
The only thing I would ask is if while crossing over do you think your parents, public schools, the media etc would be an acepable excuse to God for your lost condition ?

Anyone who read it honestly and without an incessent chip on their shoulder knows how I meant it, irregardless of your attempted contextual twist. Your constant attacks on almost anything anyone says is very telling and I'd love to hear your testimony because you're another one who is never pleasant yet claims to soar heights above the other saints here.

Thanks JohnUK your comment was very encouraging to me, like Christropher said if just one soul was won to Christ through my efforts it was worth it just as the angels rejoice in heaven over one sinner being saved so I will be rejoicing when I meet them in heaven.
GS, I am so glad you were helped by mine and Chris's posts. This is why God wants us to try to lift each other up, He knows what we need and gives insight and the words to say to encourage and to strenghten. Your comment encouraged me also. Christropher blesses me so much and I hurt for him when get real made her comments.

Hi GS, I'd like to give you my thought on this. I know what some might say, but I say never. The way I look at it is that I wouldnt wish eternal terror and pain on my worst enemy. The reason I push on is because these people have been deceived by their parents, public schools, the media, etc, and think everything is either a joke or they have all the time in the world to get themselves right but want to have fun now. Sometimes I try to imagine the thoughts and feelings I would have the moment I crossed over knowing immediately that I was condemned and probably knowing what I had ahead of me...forever and ever. I come up with some really horrifying answers and it's for this reason that I press on. They don't know, or reject what we know and we never know how God is working on their hearts at any moment. I figure if we spend a lifetime on some but only have success, thanks to Christ, with one, it was worth it because that's one more spirit saved from the lake of fire.
Hopefully I made sense...typed this quick because I have a job to srart.

I'd like to see these cowards do this with the Muslims. But what they don't realize is that while the Muslims they fear taking their heads off, Jesus has the power to cast them in hell.

We are not always asked to win that person just sow the seed and walk the talk. Be a witness but don't harass them, have faith and pray that God sends someone else to do the watering and finally reaping.
Glad to hear of your Sunday School work, Dolores. There is no telling what good that can do in an individual's life. Children are most vulnerable nowadays, and often get no teaching on spiritual matters, whereas the world is most active in trying to shape their thinking. I believe this is a part of the hardness of heart we know in young people today. We can hope that some of the youngsters you taught will have come to faith in Christ and you will see the fruit of your labour one day.

What is wrong with you anyway stating that the drunken Jesus image is another graven image that Catholics will love? The Catholic Church will consider the image of a drunken Jesus to be blasphemy just as I consider it to be blasphemy.

Thanks Dolores. I could have worded my post much better but was in a rush as I am now. I don't believe in harassing either because I think it's a real putoff and can cause distance. Going back to the question, I guess if someone was adamant that they wanted me to get lost, then I would leave them alone and resort to prayer alone.

A guy I work with told me how his drinking buddy has a tee shirt just like that, and thought there was nothing wrong with it, he even thought it was funny! I couldnt believe my ears. I told him it was blasphemy, but he didnt agree. Ive witnessed to this guy a few times, gave him tracts, and even a Bible, but so far he has not repented and put his faith in Jesus Christ for salvation.

How many times are you supposed to witness to someone before you're casting pearls before swine? This is something I havent figured out yet.

Just goes back to what's been said 1000 over...seems it's only the God of the bible who is under ever increasing assault. Touch on any other false religion or cult and the Mr OBama has you arrested by the secret service as a hater, and goes on national TV to tell the world what a monster you are. Assault the creator of the universe and get some laughs. Times sure have changed and they are playing out just as prophesy says. What's incredible to me is that during the tribulation, mankind will hide in caves and cry for the rocks to fall on them. Even though they can plainly see what is happening, they still refuse to repent, it seems. Strange time when death will flee from them as well .
Hey, just wanted to thank everyone one last time. Still can't stop thinking about the situation.
