A Wheaton discussion of homosexuality
Editors Note: Rev. Kent Butterfield is a broadcaster on SermonAudio.

Over the last few days, Wheaton College has been the subject of significant discussion following coverage of events related to a January 31 chapel talk by Dr. Rosaria Champagne Butterfield.

In the chapel talk Dr. Butterfield testifies about her encounter with Jesus Christ and how this transformed her life, including her worldview and her experience of her sexuality. In her talk, as in other venues, Dr. Butterfield described herself as a formerly leftist lesbian professor who had despised Christians. Dr. Butterfield’s testimony was well-received by the student body, resulting in an extended ovation following her remarks.

It seems that on so called Christian college campuses those who know that homosexuality is a sin and a reminder of just how depraved the fallen human heart is are being allowed less and less freedom to share such a testimony without being forced to give equal time to a contrary opinion on this particular subject. The homophobic stereotype apparently carries great weight among our Christian academics as demonstrated by this college who refuse to be true to the word of God, however kindly in order to appease its sodomite student body?

Dorcas, that's a very good anaology, I have to do that also because they don't always have my same thoughts, so I take what God wants me to have and ignore the rest. So far JC Ryle's book on Holiness has blessed me and cleared up some things for me.Have a blessed Lord's Day to all.

"If I was a professor and you came to me and said, “I am really struggling with this issue, and I don’t know who to believe—is sexuality fixed, is it fluid, is it a sin, is it a grace—I don’t know what to do,” I would take your hand and walk you across the street to College Church and introduce you to Pastor Stephen Lee and I would say, “Look. You cannot ask yourself these hard questions in the spotlight. You need to get in the church."

A christian student?...

the church...
So, it's the church that have the answer for such an issue...

what happen to The Word of God, the Holy Bible?

hmm...
The Roman Catholic Church has the authority over the Bible...

Where's the authority of the Word of God?

"Dr. Butterfield described herself as a formerly leftist lesbian professor who had despised Christians."

Butterfield's testimony reminds us that even in these satanic and evil times we live in, God continues to work and save many from the darkness and iniquity of our society and fallen world.
Sodom and Gomorrah may exist in our nations midst and be loathsome to the very heart of normal and decent people, but God continues to bring His grace and truth to save.

2Cor 12:9 "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
These inspired words of Paul may have been specifically about his own situation but they serve to remind us of God's purpose for good within us. His grace is sufficient and in our weakness His strength is made perfect. Pray that the power of Christ may rest upon us and always be with us. Amen.

One thing she brought out that we are what we read and need to read more of the older( JC Ryle, etc.) authors which I intend to do more of and less of other non edifying things or reads. Great article.

I have read Dr. Rosaria Champagne Butterfield's book: "The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert", and appreciate the testimony of her "Train Wreck" conversion to Christ out of her former life in the modern liberal and homosexual worldview that so dominates the thinking of the lost around us. And hopefully those who might read her won't be sidetracked in her 'Psalms Only' view of singing in the Church but be greatly blessed in the insights we might have in sharing the gospel to the lost whose thinking is utterly foreign to the reality of God, His existence and His Sovereignty and Worth

It is good to hear she spoke at Wheaton and I have to think a lot of local churches need to hear the things God have made real in her life that she can share with them
