Christian college drops 'Crusaders' nickname in bow to 'global society'

A Christian college in Wisconsin is dropping its “Crusaders” nickname after nearly 50 years, claiming the moniker has become outdated in a “more global society,” university officials told FoxNews.com.

Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown and its Division III athletic teams have used the name since its founding in 1968. Matt Davis, the university’s executive vice president, said no complaints have been received by the school and stressed that it coincides with its name change from Maranatha Baptist College in December.

“But I also agree that times change and we understand that context changes,” Davis told FoxNews.com. “Our world has changed since 9/11 and we’ve become a more global society with the Internet. The heartbeat behind this was not political correctness, but expanded opportunities for our students.” ...

Just seeking clarity,you said when something makes people feel uncomfortable that is when it gets changed....probably should have said some people,no one realy cares ? did you read what Ibrahim said,he is very happy,you know what happens when Muslims aren't happy....chop chop.

Which people are talking about,the politically protected or the other folks,i find hip hop and gangsta culture very uncomfortable along with the severe black on white crime in my area...how about you,or are some people more "equal" than others ?

Yes, Wargle, I'm glad it changed also. just a holdover from really bad times in America. However, we never have had much of a racial divide where i'm from. Everyone just got along fine!!!

Same thing happened to the Christian HS I attended back in the 1970s. A few years back they changed their mascot from Crusaders to Warriors. More generic means less offensive, I guess.

Really doesn't seem like an appropriate name considering the crusaders were not really Christians except in name. Maybe they should have thought that out when they started the college. (now university)

Hmm, that's funny. I'm probably attending a small Christian college next year who are called the crusaders. I see nothing wrong with it.

Its not so much the name change that matters,but the belly crawling,appeasing and groveling attitude,and one can be sure that the name change is either a reflection of other changes that have already taken place or are about to.

Ibrahim is happy,i'm sure he is as are most Muslims when they realize the gutless cowardice of their competition for the hearts and souls of men.
