Remarriage rates plunge as divorced Americans have doubts
The invitations are in the mail. Jennifer Beltz and T.J. Gurski of Commerce Township, Mich., are defying the odds — they’re taking the plunge a second time.

“When I got divorced, I said, ‘I’m never getting married again,” says Beltz, 41, who works in marketing.

That sentiment seems to be quite common among those jaded by a failed first union: A new analysis of federal data provided exclusively to USA TODAY shows the USA’s remarriage rate has dropped 40 percent over the past 20 years.

I'm the kind woman with cancer that Some Woman From Wisconsin..and I know it came from her heart gave those kind words to. I have been married and divorced. I was eight months pregnant when he left me..I had developed toxemia and according to what the doctor told my mother I was next door to death..he was a womanizer like my father was..I had a baby boy and lived with my parents until I remarried and moved from Alabama to Arkansas ( where he's from)..his parents disapproved of course ( Holiness)..we had 3 more children. At the time I was going to their Church and not allowed to teach which was ok because I didn't feel worthy and very confused! One day God showed me that if I were living in sin how He could take my husband through death..not long after my husband had an accident at work and through certain things happening that were miraclous to me he was spared death. I realize God hates divorce and I know first hand why.I had prayed God would send agood husband and father for my baby boy and He did all the way from Arkansas..

A few years ago while having the oil in my car changed, a man who was also waiting on his car proudly bragged to me that his daughter was moving in with her boyfriend that day. I was so shocked at his joyful mood I couldn't even speak and just stared at him. But sadly, many men are no longer serving their families as protectors. Even if one isn't Christian, why would a young woman give herself away to a man without the legal benefit of marriage?

Most people are skipping either one and are just living together. The state has come to terms with this and accepts this as equal to marriage. The church wants a formal declaration

'Remarriage rates plunge'

No, people aren't forgoing partnering up again, they're forgoing the marriage ceremony and just living together. Divorces are bigger then ever. It's more to do with a shift in the societal stigma that was attached to both, (and the changes in the role of women).

The bible sees marriage as a 'one-flesh union' that no man can put asunder. No divorce!

"SOME WOMEN", could your anger and bitterness be the result of over zealous Christians around you? Or could it be that your current lifestyle is in conflict with your Christian upbringing? God isn't angry with you, waiting to pounce on you.

Yes, God has always and for all times required PERFECT obedience to ALL His laws. But we could never make it. The law was given so that we could marvel and give God the glory for the grace that was extended to us on the cross. Amazing grace at that!

"SOME WOMAN", Out of pure grace God works on renewing your heart and mind to glory in Him alone.
Yes, God doesn't allow divorce. But God deals with you where you are now, not with what you had already done. Leave the past in His hands. Trust Him for His grace now, not in your ability to do anything.

Hey folks! There are many most excellent sermons here on SA on the subject of divorce and remarriage, including what Biblical marriage actually is, particularly the relationship of God, man, and woman. It is the relationship, as God created the relationship, that is the key to successful marriage. As a divorcee of almost 10 year's duration thus far, I know it is my responsibility to have God make clear these matters to me before plunging into marriage again. In fact, it wasn't till having having some things made clear to me by God, that I believed I would have to remain single (a divorcee) for the remainder of my life on earth. Praise God, I now know that is not true. However, God still has some way to go with me in my pre-marital training before I'll be more fully prepared to re-enter into marriage. I just pray that He is doing the same for the one He is preparing for me.
km from va: a most helpful post, thank you.
Unprofitable Servant: wise words from you, as usual, thank you. And thank you to the SA community in general; the Love of Christ to you all. Many thanks from Andy.

You can not deny it is in the word of God. Thank God for the Blood of Christ. I am remarried, I was gloriously saved when going thru my divorce, I had to get really low before God could do anything with me. I remarried 5 years later to my wife that God sent me . God knew I needed a good help meet as I had two children I was raising on my own. I am glad my sins gone. God remembers them no more. Let me repeat that he Remembers them no more, their far as the east is from the west, behind his back and in the depths of the sea, their gone!!!

Praise God!!!

ok she wins, i will leave
i can not tolerate looking at that name, i thought at least here i could get away from that kind of female showboating ...
Have a look at Lady Virtue's website.... If you are posting with a smartphone app you probably don't have access to her testimony.

Do what makes sense to you but I believe you have sorely misjudged this dear Christian sister.

I have never met Lady Virtue, but she is a true sister in Christ and her worth is far above that of rubies. I agree with her comment and only wish I had the alertness to have written it first. Iron sharpens iron and Lady Virtue helps keep us all sharp!

SW....
You have made some charges against us sisters in Christ that are not grounded in scripture.
This forum is not a corporate church setting.
So to accuse us of being feminists who want to preach is not warranted.
Most on here encourage and pray for one another...I believe that is what Christian fellowship is about.
Always keeping before us the Lord Jesus Christ and His honor and glory!
You accuse one of "showboating" but I have read several of your past posts and you have attacked others and seem quite bitter in your attitude toward them.
Please think on these matters and perhaps take them to the Lord in prayer.
Are you a born again woman?

My Bible says, (Proverbs 31:10 KJV)"Who can find a virtuous woman?
for her price is far above rubies." So, it seems to me that all the ladies here would want to claim the title virtuous woman, she just chose it as her moniker. I don't see a prideful spirit in her posts but a helpful one. You seem to be harsh in your criticism of one who is trying to live up to the Biblical standard. If you feel she isn't, I am sure she would appreciate your intercession on her behalf that God would do a work in her heart for His glory. But for the life of me cannot see from where you would draw that conclusion.

"Remarriage" is adultery and therefore sin (Mark 10:11-12; Luke 16:18). Adulterers can be forgiven, but, as is the case with all other sinners, that forgiveness is conditioned upon repentance (Proverbs 28:13).

Most pastors are too cowardly to preach this Biblical truth. The proliferation of false Bible "translations" further confuses the matter, but God's Word is clear. It is unloving to withhold the truth from divorcees and those who "remarry." Yes, it should be spoken in love, of course, but it must be spoken nonetheless.

this is bad news. in other words they are still having relationships. they still cohabitate. they still have children. they still carry out all the functions of marriage yet without being married. it is still better to be remarried after a divorce one has repented of than to live in the sin of fornication. i pray for this country and for the church that we would learn forgiveness and true repentance and that we would honor marriage and seek to set a biblical marriage example whatever our marriage status is. there is so much confusion about marriage today, many young people are third and fourth generation products of divorce. they have never even seen a real marriage. divorce is very bad but many Christians also have a distorted teaching about divorce/remarriage (and i was one) and its so easy to despise people who are in a divorce/remarriage and to be very proud. and i have seen more distain and reproach for the remarried divorced person than for the divorced fornicator as if the remarriage is worse than the fornication. many complain that divorce is so easy today... but so is fornication and that's part of the problem. may Christ grant us humility and kindness as we seek to understand his word and apply it in our life. peace.
