Churches boost security as violent incidents grow

As dozens of congregants lift their hands in prayer, preparing for the week's message from the pulpit, Gilchriest's eyes are alert, darting across the spacious worship hall.

A white, coiled microphone wire ripples from his ear to help him communicate with ushers and plainclothes security personnel.

Their mission: Protecting the flock by being ready for the worst.

"This is the norm in our world's culture and there's a need for security wherever we go nowadays," said Gilchriest, who oversees security efforts at Freedom Christian and also is the CEO of Opaque Security, an international company that trains churches and synagogues to protect congregations. And I'm sure I read posts from a whole lot of angry people on Christian websites who kept claiming US of A were a Christian Nation. God was gonna take the sword and righteousness was gonna be restored. He was going to avenge you all .. I remember it clearly and may have copied a few of the best posts .. just in case you have bad memories.
Wow. The decline happened so quickly!

Amazing.

It is up to church leaders to decide what security measures are needed for one's church and not vigilante action.

...Thomas Dart, sheriff of Illinois's Cook County, which encompasses Chicago, said that although the effect on crime is disputed, more people carrying guns "makes our job more difficult."

"Without the gun, it's a fistfight. With the gun, it's a shooting," he said.

Craig Steckler, president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, said he could remember only "one instance in which someone effectively defended himself" with a firearm during his 21 years as police chief in Fremont, Calif. Otherwise, "it's a whole lot of cases of guns being used not in ways they're designed: kids shooting themselves, gun-cleaning accidents, crimes of passion, that sort of thing."

on this particular source you'll have to scroll way down to see the article. I see Nebraska had much more sense in 2002 and became addled-brained by 2012.

I would suggest faithless read Nehemiah chapter 4 and rethink his response

Tell us, how long have you gone without locking your car or house doors?

Appreciate your comment and prayers..that's an encouagement for me and amen to the housecleaning and false prophets! We are definitely in a spiritual warfare and will only get worse as the days go by. We need true Christian fellowship now more than ever.

Sorry to hear about your alls troubles.
Unfortunately in the present state of modern churches we need a good house cleaning of the wolves in sheeps clothing among us, especailly where they are in the pulpits, Yes, NOT bickering but a pursuit of Biblical holiness, repentance, Biblical Church Discipline and house cleaning both of those holding false teachings and those teaching them as well.

I have to think this will take a lot of weeping and mourning and humble fervent prayer that God might restore and revive us and spare us His people (see Joel 2)

We had a drive by shooting at our church recently and had it not been a holiday the person behind the front desk would have been killed(that's where the holes were in the wall)..others that were there happened to be in the back part of the church..doors are kept locked..have to ring up from outside to get in..a new security system is being installed as of now in the childrens' area..next will be the rest of the church..we already have state troopers in church to watch and later direct traffic. Time for Christians to get serious about praying and not be bickering among ourselves, devouring one another as Paul says.
