Christians Need to Prepare for Normalization of Gay Marriage?
Though many Christians are going to try to deny "the obvious," evangelical leader Dr. Albert Mohler believes gay marriage is going to become normalized.

"I think it's clear that something like same-sex marriage is going to become normalized, legalized and recognized in the culture. It's time for Christians to start thinking about how we're going to deal with that," he said Friday on the Focus on the Family radio program.

Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, was speaking in response to the Obama administration's decision this week to stop defending the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act – federal law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman – in the courts. ...

The ones who would twist the meaning of His Word have been around for centuries.
Most of them are already dead. When Obama does not defend the laws of our nation he is trying to overturn our laws and our beliefs.
Each of us will keep that appointment...not if...but when.
Those who falsely teach and those who would lead others into sin certainly will be judged for that.
Which verse of the Bible would you have me ignore....or not accept?.....

God’s laws are from the beginning and there is no end. Men may want to change the laws....it is impossible to overrule God’s Commandments. Each of us is required to make a decision. One to follow our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Yes! Woe to those who call evil good, and good eveil.

God is not mocked. Nor is his wrath no longer His to use.
God blesses those people and nations who at least do their best to follow Him and do as He commands.
We may think we have reached and age or a time when that is not true.
Those are only thoughts..which have entered the minds of people who have let Satan whispers in their ears..go ahead...enjoy it.

Each time we hear the gospel we make a decision...yes to follow.....or no to deny Christ. You have made a decision. Which is it?

Mike,

Your point (2/27/11 6:37 PM) generalizes further than this particular issue. The problem is with the liberal mindset that rights are only rights in the context of government.

You're absolutely right. Milk doesn't cease to be milk if you pull the label off the jug, and marriage doesn't change because the Federal law says it does. Civilizations rise and fall to the degree that their codified laws mimic natural law and don't try to create a new reality.

Oh, and Obama simply refusing to enforce DOMA is an impeachable offense, by the way. Don't hold your breath for any hearings.

The Church of Christ is not a business! It is a spiritual living organism (family of Believers). The church may have to meet in a cornfield or barn just like the North Koreans do............

How did it come to this?
I believe that Romans 1:18-32 has the answer. Go verse by verse:
v.18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

God is angry with our nation's violations of the first table of the moral law or(ungodliness). The law is meant to lead men to Christ and keep them dependent on Him, in order to keep it even imperfectly, we are cast on his grace and dependent on his imputed moral perfection.

Yesterday, I read Thomas Manton on Jude 4, he said: "God is to be acknowledged by us as 1.the first cause; 2. the chiefest good; 3. As the supreme truth and authority; 4. As the last end.
God is to be honored as the first cause, that giveth being to all things and hath his being from none. So if we do not trust him, or can trust any other creature rather than God, our estates rather than God, or do not observe him in his providence, the effects of his mercy, justice, and power, or do not acknowledge his dominion in all events, and sanctify the things which we use by asking his leave and blessing in prayer, we are guilty of ungodliness."

What percent increase in giving would be required to make up for the loss of a church's tax-exempt status?
Perhaps this would be challenging for tithing families.
See Neil's post. I would add your question assumes the loss would have to be made up. The church business would have to adjust to loss, just as the people have to make adjustments to any losses of their income. Consider this as well: If a tither donates on the basis of getting a return in the form of savings or refund, his true contribution is the tithe minus the return.

No increase would be required if churches would stop budgeting for extra-Biblical fluff like a huge campus, "50-Day Spiritual Adventure" tripe, salaried personnel not engaged in full-time study & teaching, etc.

Many churches have become like our gov't, trying to be all things to all people, rather than sticking to what God ordained & leaving the increase to Him.

Mohler said, "....It's time for Christians to start thinking about how we're going to deal with that,"

I understand what Mohler is saying but at the same time I can't help but feel like he is saying the battle has been lost.

We have been granted the unique priviledge and responsiblity of living in a nation where the people rule. However, we do get the leaders we deserve so maybe Mohler is right. If we cannot stand for marriage in our own homes and churches then we might as well get ready.

Therein lies the problem. This federal law doesn't define marriage, it codifies that which is already defined. Obama and his troops may cease defending DOMA, but that does not change the definition of marriage. That was defined long before there ever was federal law.

2Pet 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Just from the excerpt I saw, Dr. Mohler, might be slightly incorrect that Christians will accept homo marriages as normative, because God has made it clear! The Bible Says Homosexuality is Sin. The whole article needs to be read.

There is Biblical Intolerance for teachers of false doctrine.

2 John 1
6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.
7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.
8 Watch yourselves, that you might not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.---NASB

Mohler said.
"I think we're going to be surprised and heartbroken over how many people are going to capitulate to the spirit of the age," he noted. "We're going to find now that there may not be as many of us as we thought."

I think the Church is already at this very sorry pass. Our numbers have been in decline for decades now, not only that, our doctrines have been suffering too.

Perhaps in these times we live in, the decline is going to be more obvious to this generation than was previously observed.

As Proverbs warns;
29:16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.

The first part indicates today.
The second gives us hope for our childrens future at least.
