Will Polygamy Be Legalized in Canada?
Canada is home to publicly funded universal health insurance, legal gay marriage, a justice system with no death penalty and several relatives of Michael Moore. So it's safe to say the nation has some significant ideological differences with its neighbor to the South. But even Canadians are apprehensive about a court case in Vancouver, British Columbia, that could lead to the legalization of polygamy.

The case centers on a breakaway Mormon sect in Bountiful, B.C., that practices plural marriage. Attempts to prosecute members of the sect have been less than successful. Meanwhile, some of the polygamists have become quite open about their marital habits. The large family of Winston Blackmore, who allegedly has 19 wives and more than 100 children living together in a community in Bountiful, recently participated in a National Geographic TV special. ...

Joe K., I would suggest you read,
Mark 10
3 And He answered and said to them, "What did Moses command you?"
4 And they said, "Moses permitted a man TO WRITE A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY."
5 But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.
6 "But from the beginning of creation, God MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE.
7 "FOR THIS CAUSE A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER,
8 AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh.
9 "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."---NASB

I would point out that, as Christians, under Old Testament law. I would suggest you listen to the sermon, Legalism is Shadow, Christ is Substance, this is why we have Nine Commandments -- not 10.

Will Polygamy Be Legalized in Canada? Why not? Homosexual marriage was legalized in Illinois.

That's 2% commission if it's successful.

Never beat Calvinopoly though.

One big problem with that Joe, as I see it. The filthy rich will buy as many wives as they wish and, because the Lord seems to have ordered it that the ratio of men to women is roughly 50/50, the poor (like me) will find no wife at all - not even ONE! And that doesn't bode well with the Lord's own statement, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." So the rich have plenty of helps, and the poor have none!
I think polygamists ought to be locked up for life, for causing such misery, their "marriages" annulled, and the women sent over to the UK to make up for the shortage.

Joe K,

Excellent comment that will cause me to ponder. I have always said that much of the way we and others view "much" of scripture is through their own particular cultural lenses even though that would be reducing God's holy infallible word to the whims of man and culture. I will ponder the scriptures you listed, thanks. But, I will use my NASB.

Greetings in the Lord Christ Jesus! The other commentors must be using different Bibles than my KJV, NKJV, or NIV. My 1 Kings 11:1-3 reads "King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter...He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines". Not wise, but Legal. Like God said to King David in 2 SAM 12:7-9 "I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms...And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more". Compare that to the LAW: EXO 21:10-11, LEV 18:18, DEUT 21:15-17 *PLUS* Prophecy in ISA 11:1-3 "Seven women will take hold of one man...let US be called by YOUR name". At no time in the Bible was Polygamy (or concubinage) equated with Adultery! The Patriarchs engaged in it. Even though the Word of God often uses "singular tense" many times, God NEVER spoke against it (except foreign wives leading to sin), but He did say he HATES divorce Malachi 2:16. Jesus taught against divorce, but not polygamy since the Law will by NO means pass away, the LORD does not change! Since He is the One who gave the Law and guided Israel originally, that just makes sense. Maybe we should outlaw divorce and allow polygamy to become a more "Biblical Commonwealth"

They will also have to allow polyandry there too, it would make a lot of American movie actresses move up there.

Solomon didn't rate polygamy, and neither do I.

"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2:24).

This is God's definition of marriage, and it cannot be changed, whether by polygamists, sodomites, adulterers, fornicators, or anyone else.
