Helen Thomas ends 5-decade career in controversy
After more than 50 years covering the White House, journalist Helen Thomas announced Monday that she is retiring immediately from Hearst Newspapers, amid controversy over remarks she recently made about Israel.

Hearst News Service broke the news Monday, noting that Thomas' "decision came after her controversial comments about Israel and the Palestinians were captured on videotape and widely disseminated on the Internet."

Since moving from reporter to columnist, Thomas has made her views on Israel and other hot-button issues known. But her recent call for Israel to "get the hell out of Palestine" and have its citizens return to Germany or Poland drew harsh rebukes from political leaders on the left and right. Despite an apology from Thomas, the controversy only grew. Thomas' speakers agency dropped her as a client and a high school canceled her upcoming appearance at graduation. Press Secretary ...

Just for you, dear, sweet Jessica Dawson; ever pulling us back by our shirt collar to the charges of our gracious Lord...

'World' Magazine; June 5; Janie B. Cheaney article, entitled 'Whose Offense?'. Find it online.

I don't know if you are a subscriber, but if not; it is a wonderful, intelligent news magazine from an unabashedly Christian perspective (not frilly).
I believe it encapsulates your absolutely correct, but
sometimes difficult to submit to, sentiment (an example of which is the first sentence of my previous post).
Never leave us.

I thought she was just another "old coot" spouting off, the way some older folk do when they stop respecting or caring what all the younger people around them think.

Now I know that she was never much of a fan of Isreal to begin with, which more than explains her response.

Hey John, Please try to love your enemies, I'm trying my best to overcome bitterness and love my enemies. Your language is sometimes a bad influence on me, I need brethren around me who are an example of loving their enemies as Jesus has taught us.

Matthew 5:43-45 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

I'm ashamed to say, Mike; I did laugh out loud at your post.
Ahem! That being said... I found her ignorant venom spewing at the press conference concerning the flotilla incident, less alarming than her lack of honor displayed (along with Pat Buchanan) by an absence of apology or retraction upon discovery of the facts concerning the same. Ever speaking out of turn, I suspect it would be exceeding difficult for rabid liberals to continually retract 'words without knowledge'.

Until now I'd never heard of Miss Thomas.
I presume she is one of the Lefty Brigade and a Liberal which appears to be where the Palestine debate recruits most of it's cantankerous, belicose and belligerence from.

Good riddance! This is what another Lebanese Christian had to say, The Jews took no one's land. She wanted to kick out the wrong people! The Beleaguered Christians of The Palestinian-Controlled Areas.

There was no need for her to step down? She should have stepped down 40 years ago. But liberal bigots take longer.

There are many people who should have been fired or stepped down.

They didn't. So, why should she?
It's just another political smokescreen.
