Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson says Haiti has been "cursed" because of what he called a "pact with the devil" in its history.
His spokesman said the Wednesday comments were based on Voodoo rituals carried out before a slave rebellion against French colonists in 1791.
Spokesman Chris Roslan says Robertson never stated that Tuesday's earthquake was God's wrath. He says Robertson's Operation Blessing group is sending millions of dollars in medication and relief workers to the country.
John Yurich USA wrote: Robertson maybe correct that the earthquake in Haiti was a judgement from God upon Haiti for making a pact with Satan. The Bible states that the wrath of God is spewn upon any nation that forsakes God.
Tony has an excellent comment, John, which you should read. and these people will be cursed on an individual basis for their voodoo/Catholic faith. But you yourself should consider yourself indeed lucky because, Matthew 5 45 in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? The timely words of Shaun Willcock in a private e-mail to me:
‚ÄúYes, the Haitian earthquake was tragic and terrible. True, life is so fragile and can be over so quickly, as it now is for so many thousands in that little country, and yet men still do not seek the Lord. Haiti is a place filled with Romanism, voodooism, and many other blasphemies against the Lord; and yet the once-Protestant West is hardly any better today, and surely judgment cannot be too far off. Indeed it has already begun and is increasing. The Lord is not mocked. Only in Christ is there peace and safety for eternity.‚ÄĚ

Psalms 46:1-3 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah."

Yes indeed, this word of God is different to the words of men...
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17 KJV
because.... For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV
and brings life... Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Peter 1:23 KJV
effectually.... For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 KJV
Thanks for your kind words. When I was saved, Jesus became very precious. God has taught me to regard his word also as equally precious.
With John Calvin's statement, there can be no argument, for God Himself declares:
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." (Rom. 10:17)
And what's more, my experience confirms that it is so.
I oftentimes call to remembrance that seemingly insignificant gesture on the part of the Christian woman (Maxine)so many years ago who gave me God's precious Word, and bless the Lord for putting her in my path. No wonder then, as I consider the transforming power of His Word in my own life, that the Lord has said that we are not to despise the day of small things. (Zech. 4:10)
And here then my brother is a word in season to encourage you to persevere in your street evangelization:
"And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever." (Dan. 12:3)
May God be pleased to "add the increase" (Acts 2:47; 1 Cor. 3:6-7) to all your labours in His Word and strengthen you in the LORD as you walk up and down in His name (Zech. 10:12),and may these things redound altogether to His glory!
mmm spot on john, that is encoraging thanks for the link.
i was thinking earlier today of hiring the local village hall for a series of creation talks
you have reminded me to read fox 's book of martyrs which i have and forgot that i had it i will commencs it this evening.
Just as a small aside andy mackintosh does well to include:
Pilate‚Äôs question echoes down the centuries ‚ÄĒ ‚ÄėWhat is truth?‚Äô (John 18:38). The irony of the situation was lost on him that day
however i disagre with his exposition which is the usual view.
Pilate was a shrewd operator a politician to his fingernails if historical narratives are anything to go by.
In the context of the illegal arrest and false witnesses which the Jews had perjured themselves i believe that nothing was lost on him, he wasnt asking he was commenting on the truth being what these wicked people wanted it to be and the value of truth, ie he could see Jesus was innocent of the charges but that it did no good, its an ironic statement if you will.
John macurther has done an excellent series of sermons on John there is quite a few of them but i listened to them all
Im just back from surf canoeing - The water is COLD but big waves and no wind - nice

Charles, just for your encouragement, have a decce at the following article, particularly the last paragraph. It's not lengthy, and should be right up your street. That is, not the street where you live, obviously, but the street you live in evangelistically. We all need encouragement in these dark days, and you may be blessed to read such.

Now I really do have to get back to work (six days for work - one for rest, as the Bible states).
June wrote: John wrote: "Quotes from......?" I give up John . . my curiosity is aroused. Who are you quoting? I'll take a stab at it . . C.H.Spurgeon?
It's a good guess, June, and I quite expect CHS would concur with all the quotes, but no.....
The one who seeks to lead the whole world of men "made in God's Image" to salvation, and who claims that the "only way" men will be thus converted to Jesus Christ is by the "reading or preaching of God's word" is none other than the popular theologian and loving evangelist Mr John Calvin.
Just as there are modern "corrupted" versions of the Bible (the Bible as epitomised in the King James Version, Geneva Bible etc.), so there are those "corrupted" versions of "Frenchy Flag Flyers" who know so little about the man and his teachings that they construct a whole new set of doctrines they call "Calvinism" but which, in fact, are not the original form of hippy flower power peoples' thinking, but a modern "corrupted" version of the same, which goes by the name, being grossly extreme, of "hypercalvinism" with a small "c" so as to disassociate the extreme doctrines from one who knew what he was talking about......well, most of the time.
"It is our duty to pray for all who trouble us; to desire the salvation of all men."
"We ought to pray that this and that and every man may be saved and so embrace the whole human race, because we cannot yet distinguish the elect from the reprobate...we pray for the salvation of all whom we know to have been created in GOD'S IMAGE and who have the same nature as ourselves; and we leave to God's judgement those whom He knows to be reprobate."
"God invites all indiscriminately to salvation through the Gospel, but the ingratitude of the world is the reason why this grace, which is equally offered to all, is enjoyed by few."
"So even though we have tumult and toil, let us do as we are commanded and work to win the whole world to God and bring it in obedience unto him."
"Now we know that God prizes nothing above his honour, which lies mainly in men's knowing him and poor souls' being brought to salvation. So let us not be surprised if our Lord wants his gospel to be proclaimed with such diligence that nothing can hinder its course. For the only way men can come to salvation is through instruction in what THE BIBLE teaches. Now since this is God's will, let us follow it."
June wrote: .... And yet John, I know as well that apart from the power of the Holy Spirit, I would understand nothing. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the spirit, which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." (I Cor. 2:11-12)
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. John - UK wrote . . How did you get on reading that Bible? Did you have any help with what you were reading, like the Ethiopian? Bible a great gift, eh? ***** Not initially, but though there was so much I did not understand, I did perceive that it was GOD's WORD and that He was talking very personally to me, and felt thus compelled to persist in my reading of it. In time, God graciously placed in my path two reformed pastors who figured very prominently in ministering to me spiritual things. I do yet esteem them both very highly in love for their works sake for they have truly fed me with knowledge and understanding (Jer. 3:15; 1 Thess. 5:13) by opening the Scriptures to me that I might behold wondrous things out of His law! (Ps. 119:18) And yet John, I know as well that apart from the power of the Holy Spirit, I would understand nothing.

For sure the best gift I ever received was the Bible (James 1:17) and the only really GOOD BOOK I've ever read!

May this terrible (Ps. 68:35; Ps. 145:6)act of God serve as a wake up call to those yet unconverted working repentance, as they consider the great earthquake yet to come upon the ends of the earth, on that great day of the wrath of the Lamb. (Rev. 6; 2 Cor. 5;11a)
who shall be able to stand ? something i consider nearly every day and every time i consider a church.
ive received yesterday my CMI newsletter they have been carrying out mission work in europe giving creation talks. Its gone well, there have been a huge thirst amongst congregations to know the Bible is true with regard to origins
so many professing christians have huge problems with basic doctrine and for one main reason as far as i can see. they dont believe in the six day creation, nor the global flood. Gods sovreignty and judgement are impossible to understand via the humanist naturalistic ideas of origins - millions of years evolution etc. Such folk unfourtunately fall at the first hurdle the ones i meet sadly are better described as practicing atheists, they practice unbelief as opposed to the nominal atheist who dosent bother. They seek to do work for the gospel but are never blessed in decades with a calling - why - its obvious but they cant see it, they deny Jesus very words in their unbelief. I know this because ive asked them and heard what they have to say, and i see no fruit from their churchgoing and religeous life. This situation is very common surely the mission field within the church is neglected
In January 1979 I heard the gospel on tape preached by three men, one of whom was Willie Mullan, who quoted these verses in the course of ]]giving his testimony.
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Revelation 6:15-17 KJV
These verses struck terror into my soul, as the Lord enabled me to see the truth of them, and how relevant it was to me. The former drunkard had successfully planted a part of the word of God in my poor sinner's heart. No wonder he always exhorted men to "PREACH THE WORD". The word has power.
He also portayed (by scripture) the love of God, and the gospel call to trust Christ (John 3:16), and through this message, and the other two testimonies, I went as a sinner to the Christ and to Calvary, and was washed in the blood of the Lamb.
This is why I believe in "preaching the word" (2 Tim 4:2).
