Expert: U.N. Resolutions Would Create 'Global Blasphemy Law'
The so-called ‚Äúdefamation of religions‚ÄĚ U.N. resolutions, proposed by the Organization of the Islamic Conference, would create a ‚Äúglobal blasphemy law,‚ÄĚ the chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom warned on Wednesday.
Leonard A. Leo testified to Members of Congress on the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission that though the resolutions sounded ‚Äútolerant and progressive,‚ÄĚ in reality they would ‚Äúexacerbate‚ÄĚ religious persecution and discrimination around the world.
‚ÄúAlthough the ‚Äėdefamation‚Äô resolutions purport to protect religions generally, the only religion and religious adherents that are specifically mentioned are Islam and Muslims,‚ÄĚ pointed out Leo, who noted USCIRF has been closely monitoring the resolutions for several years. ‚ÄúAside from Islam, the resolutions do not specify which religions are deserving of protection, or explain how or by whom this would be...
Who, other than Muslims, concerns themselves with these things, with such aggression? '...against individuals', it would seem that the particulars of such a proposal would be impossible to work out, without prejudice, in non-Islamic countries. Even thinking this is giving too much credence to such inanity. It probably deserves more of a 'pfft'.
"“Under these laws, criminal charges can be levied against individuals for defaming, denigrating, insulting, offending, disparaging, and blaspheming Islam"
Satanic verses trying to gain protection from the liberal UN. The only reason it probably will not get through is because the UN is predominantly humanist and will not be happy with this attack on the secular, humanist philosophies. But you never can tell with bureaucrats.
