Majority of Episcopalians Favor Scrapping Ban on Gay Ordination
Episcopalians overwhelmingly favor tossing a previously approved resolution that bans ordaining openly gay bishops.

In discussions that began Thursday afternoon and continued Friday morning during The Episcopal Church's triennial General Convention, Episcopalians spoke frankly, testifying passionately either for throwing out the ban or against rescinding it.

"Gays and lesbians are asked to make sacrifices the rest of us are not asked to make," said the Rev. J. Frederick Barber of Fort Worth, according to the Episcopal News Service. ...

And thank you for your prayers, Freddie.

There's one more thing I'd like to share with you. You may get the impression, by the way most Christians represent themselves, that they are walking, talking, thinking, holy saints who far exceed your own spirituality. But if you could see what God sees, even in the minds of his own blood-purchased and justified people, you would certainly have less of a problem with your own experience. Thank God that we are not saved because of our works, neither are we saved because of our efforts after conversion, neither are we saved by our own righteousness, nor by our baptism, nor by our church attendance, nor by adherence to any creed or confession.

Rather we are saved, like the publican in Luke 18:10-14, by acknowledging humbly our sins, seeing a blood sacrifice as sufficient for time and eternity (be merciful, propitious), and applying directly to GOD for his mercy and forgiveness.

But don't then do what most of christendom do, and from then on pray just like the pharisee vv 11-12. This is called hypocrisy or self-righteousness. My daily prayer is found in verse 13.

Thanks John Uk for posting a great answer. You quoted some fine points, as well did others who "came to my rescue" this day. I can't thank our Lord enough for sending His people to me re: some particular sins I'm struggling with.
Here's one more promise of the Lord Jesus that I couldn't fit into my last post. It is very special, and you must take it by faith. The AV text can be trusted, and you have here the very words of Jesus accurately translated ino English.

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
John 6:37 KJV

When you come to Christ, humbly and remorseful, seeking forgiveness for sin, knowing that his blood shed on a cross is the only way, and that your self-effort is futile, then you may know for sure that you are beloved of God, for he is drawing you to Christ, giving you to Christ, and is determined to save you eternally. You may also be sure that Jesus turns no-one away, nor casts away, anyone who comes to him in this manner.

Come to him quickly, and do it now, for it is only the devil who would have you hold back, telling you to make an improvement before you come before God.

BUT JESUS SAVES SINNERS AND THE UNGODLY.

Yea, Amen!

Freddie,

Spurgeon referred to our sin as 'Our beloved sin', we have a sinful nature. It is only with God's grace and an indwelling of the holy spirit which helps us to overcome. What you must remember is that Christ was victorious over sin on the cross. You do not or can not defeat sin, it is what He, Jesus, did.

Stop trying and start trusting.

Thanks, Max, Joelly, Jim L., and Faithful R. for praying for me and giving me some good "feedback". I have been struggling with alcoholism as well. I sometimes, as I am right now, get very depressed and feel (for real) that God will not forgive me because I know the Bible and what He says about alcohol and sexuall sins. As I said earlier, I feel that I beg Him, when I pray, to please give me a hatred for these sins.
Freddie, as a former 'boozer' I can recommend that you forget about 'yourself' and focus all your attention on the Lord Jesus, friend of sinners. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Acts 16:31.

Believe:
#1 That he is the Son of God
#2 That he came into this world, born to a virgin girl Mary.
#3 That he lived without sin
#4 That he died for YOUR sin, bearing away God's wrath toward YOU
#5 That he was raised from the grave, ascended into heaven, and now lives in the power of an endless life, currently interceding for YOU
#6 That he now says to you: "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." John 6:35
#7 That he says: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

As I said earlier, I feel that I beg Him, when I pray, to please give me a hatred for these sins. I cannot do it in my own strength. I still know that I am responsible for every action. While there are selfhelp groups such as AA, I still know that Christ is the only one who I need to help me and save me. I wonder why He has not anwered this prayer for help. I know I'm not worthy to be heard or answered by the Lord. Thanks so much for letting me share with you dear Christians!

Freddie,

We all struggle with sin, the fact that you acknowledge your fleshly desires as sin differentiates you from those such as 'Bishop' Gene Robinson who espouse that their homosexulaity is a blessing from God, and that God loves and accepts them as they are.

You could easily choose to become a part of an apostate liberal 'christian' community or church that would accept you and celebrate your sexuality with you. But it would seem you have not done this, but rather see that is not the answer and will surely end in eternal sorrow. I have no advice for you other than immerse yourself in scripture and prayer, Jesus will not forsake those who are heavy laden.

May I "pop" in here a moment and share? I have been struggling myself with homosexuality for some years now. I am not happy at all about this because I know what God's word says about this sin (Romans 1) and many other verses in Scripture. I have prayed to God with all my heart for many years now for Him to help me and give me a hatred for this sin. I thought I was saved but because of my homosexual desires and, at times, looking at porn, I feel I am not saved and am on my way to hell. Perhaps others are in this same situation, I don't know. I'm at my wits end regarding this sin that I have struggled with since I was very young. Being molested as a boy didn't help me at all. Please pray for someone like me who is really struggling with this sin.
I will pray for you Freddie. May Jesus set you free.

Freddie. We all struggle against the threefold enemy--the world, our flesh and satan-in some way. I will pray for you. Keep faith, read the Bible, pray, find a good church to help you and minister to you, but not shun you. I hope this helps and maybe others have some words of encouragement.

Hi John Y. What the Bible says is sin is still sin today. The liberal leaders do not believe this and such ones have ceased to be evangelical or protestant or even biblical for that reason.

""Gays and lesbians are asked to make sacrifices the rest of us are not asked to make," said the Rev. J. Frederick Barber of Fort Worth"

Yeah isn't it a terrible sacrifice having to abandon your abomination?

Isa 3.9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves

Jude 1.7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
