Britain is no longer a Christian nation
LONDON, June 28 ‚Äď If recent trends are any guide, many Church of England parishes will have been cheered by higher attendances at Easter services. The last published statistics for 2006/7 show rises of 7 and 5 per cent in church going at Christmas and Easter.

But these figures are just about the only signs of hope for the church and certainly not the first green shoots of a revival. Other statistics make for gloomy reading. Annual decline in Sunday attendance is running at around 1 per cent.

At present, church leaders show little signs of understanding the situation. They don‚Äôt understand the culture we now live in. Many bishops prefer to turn their heads, to carry on as if nothing has changed, rather than face the reality that Britain is no longer a Christian nation. Many of them think that we are still living in the 1950s ‚Äď a period described by historians as representing a hey day for the ...

Things in the U.S. are not a whole lot better, Maria. Compromise and liberal critical theology are rampant here as well.

Maria

Where do you worship? (If you don't mind me asking.)

Henry VIII was given that title by the Pope when he was still a papist. He was never defender of the Protestant faith. The Protestant faith was just a good excuse for getting his own way!

Seems that HE has a great many followers judging by today's individualism!

Very interesting post, Wayfarer.

Even the tributary churches are drying up for lack of water, so maybe you are right in thinking that God is judging his people, and the only remedy for that is repentance on a large scale. Mind you, try telling that to your fellow Christians and false professors and you won't be very pew-popular. The majority are quite at ease in Zion, thank you very much!

Wayfarer, one of the most famous Christian s in the 19th Century was not a member of the "official" church, and he criticized it, in such papers as ]]The Down Grade--Charles Spurgeon. "Britain is no longer a Christian nation"

NO Kidding!!!

You only just recognised this?

In the United Kingdom of Sodom and Gomorah there ain't no place for the real church.
The article refers to the Anglican CofE "church" - That is a Liberal religious organisation and NOT Christian.

There are still a few Christians around but only a Remnant!
And very few of them attend the mainstream churches.
