COLUMBIA, S.C. – After going AWOL for seven days, Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday that he had secretly flown to Argentina to visit a woman with whom he was having an affair. Wiping away tears, he apologized to his family and gave up a national Republican Party post, but was silent on whether he would resign.
"I've been unfaithful to my wife," he said in a news conference in which the 49-year-old governor ruminated on God's law, moral absolutes and following one's heart. He said he spent the last five days "crying in Argentina."
Sanford, who in recent months had been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2012, said he would resign as head of the Republican Governors Association.
By leaving the country without formally transferring power, critics said he neglected his gubernatorial authority and put the state at risk. It wasn't clear how his staff could reach him in an...
When I Heard & Saw On TV The S.C. Republican Governor's (Gov. Mark Sanford's) Confession Of Adultery; I Couldn't Help But Remember The Public Confession Of Infidelity By My Third Uncle, Henry Cisneros, When He Confessed & Then RESIGNED As Mayor Of San Antonio, Texas In The 1980s (I Was A Student Of Bob Jones University At The Time).
After Reading Those E-mails In USA TODAY; I Personally Concluded That Gov. Sanford, Like All Red-Blooded American Male Heterosexuals Who Have Extra-Marital "Affairs", Was INDEED Romantically Involved, Smitten By & Had An UnBiblical/UnScriptural Extra-Marital Relationship With That Female Argentinian.
I Felt Very Bad For Him & Wondered, Since He's From South Carolina, If He'd Ever Affiliated/Associated With Bob Jones University.
When My Uncle Had That Adulterous/Extra-Marital Relationship With His Chief Fundraiser, Linda Medlar (Now Linda Jones), He Had, For The Pleasures Of Sin For A Season, Forsaken A Wife & Two Small Children At Home: One That Was Born With A Physical Disability At That !
But When He Publicly Confessed & Forsook His Sin Of Adultery; He Found Forgiveness & Reconciliation With His Wife.
He Even Served As HUD Secretary Under Bill Clinton.
But He'll NEVER Be Forgiven By SOME--Especially In THE MEDIA & PRESS ! ! ! ! ! !

I would also think the failure is mainly falls on Mark Sanford's shoulders. I see the Roman Catholic Church loved him, perhaps another Episcopalian type planning to turn Catholic? An American Tony Blair? Going from Catholic-lite to Catholic is always the wrong direction. Dear Gentlemen, To be quite honest, one of my first thoughts about the adultery of Gov. Sanford was what a fool he is to have done this while he has such an attractive wife at home. Looks aren't everything, but ladies have a responsibility to be pleasing to their husbands through an attractive, neat, modest appearance as well as a respectful demeanor. Of course, you gents should also take care of your appearance while having a loving, respectful attitude toward your wives.
Is this why John won't ]]Come out of the Catholic Church because he has some sweet gorgeous young thing thinking he's a good Catholic, ah Christian? ...ah? Admittedly knock-out babes have more opportunities to be disloyal as do men who are in wealthy and/or have power. But, I would expect that many beautiful women who remain loyal to their husbands, and Presidents, if their name isn't Clinton, who remained loyal to their wives. Your assertion is also patently false. I do not think that a good looking wife is beneficial for staying loyal. I do not think that a wife's physical attributes have any bearing on a man remaining loyal. A man should remain loyal to his wife irrespective if she is good looking or ugly.
No, John Y., you do seem to think that a good-looking wife is beneficial for staying loyal, but hey, one can see why you have mixed up thinking since you listen to ]]The Doctrine of Apostates.
This blurring of party lines is getting disgusting! Except for Illinois politicians you use to have Democrats caught in sexual scandals an Republicans in financial ones. Now, we're getting a lot of switch hitters and a complete blurring of party lines. They all look like sinners! When republicans do this, their career is usually over (remember Newt Gingrich's successor and Dennis Hastert's predicessor?); but when a democrat does this, he manages to stay in power--albeit with a somewhat damaged reputation (JFK, Bill Clinton, etc.).
just a thought wrote: John Y., what does looks have to do with marriage, and being faithful? He should have remained faithful, regardless of whether his wife was attractive or not. Your shallow comment is a sad fact on how most sinful men view women, by their looks. His cheating had nothing to do with his wife, and everything to do with the forbidden lust that lies in his, and all unregenerate hearts. Read Matthew 5:28
Where did you get the insane idea that I think that if his wife was ugly that his engaging in adultery would have been acceptable? I do not believe that. Adultery is wrong regardless if the wife is good looking or ugly.

I heard part of Gov. Sanford's press conference, and did not get the impression that he really is repentant. For example, he referred to his mistress as a dear, dear friend. This doesn't sound like the language one uses when ending an illicit relationship. I also wonder what funds (public or private) were used to pay for his trip (or trips?) to Argentina to commit adultery?
