Presbyterians (PCA) Reject Study on Women's Roles
The role of women in leadership continues to trigger heated debates within the Presbyterian Church in America, which currently forbids women from holding positions of authority over men.

This week during the 37th General Assembly in Orlando, Fla., church leaders voted 446-427 against appointing a study committee to examine women's roles in the denomination.

The vote on Thursday was in agreement with the Overtures Committee's argument that the role of women is not an unstudied issue and that forming a study committee is unlikely to "break new ground or shed new insights." ...

The PCA may be decidedly compementarian is your part of the country, but in Colorado (V7PC specifically) they are running head long toward egalitarianism.

Word in such a close vote. I would gently caution readers here to look into the matter before passing jugdement so quickly on fellow brothers. The fact that you have godly men on both sides of this issue (Tim Keller, Ligon Duncan, Phil Ryken, Bryan Chapell, etc.) shows that charity toward one another is called for. This is not a debate about women in authority over men; the PCA is decidedly compementarian, without question.
A bigger problem may be that of denominationalism, and particularly of ]]Presbyterianism's method of deciding disputed issues.

A number of churches are struggling with the the issue of gender roles in the church. Clearly, this crisis is preciptated bt a cultural mandate to depreciate traditional gender based roles and ultimately, depreciate the structure of family and church. With men practically running away from their God given roles in home and church, women have, of practical necessity stepped into many of those roles to keep both family and church moving forward. In many cases, women have performed at or above the level of competent males in those roles. So, what would be the problem with adjusting Church doctrine & polity to recognize what is already the practice of many? The easy answer is that the history of Church inquiry into this area affirms that there is a covenental structure to the family and church that requires a proper economic relationship of all participants in that covenant. If those roles are dissolved for pragmatic reasons, the relations within the covenant are broken as well. Within the Trinity, each person has a specific role and doesn't aspire to any other. It is the condition of fallen Man that causes us to desire something other than that to which we are appointed. Men want a responsibility free life and women want the position of men

I think this issue is already clearly settled in the scriptures...only men were apostles and established congregations, etc. This is just the way it is, not that I am against women, but I only support the positions God has ordained for men and women.

"This week during the 37th General Assembly in Orlando, Fla., church leaders voted 446-427 against appointing a study committee to examine women's roles in the denomination."

"This is the second time the PCA General Assembly rejected a motion to study the roles of women."

If PCA can only muster a meager 2% pro-Biblical majority vote on such a critical issue as this after only 2 challenges, I'd say that church is in DEEP trouble...but then again, so many other churches these days seem to be abandoning Biblical principls as fast as they can.

So, far, anyway, the comments to the original article in the Christianpost are quite good, and most are from the men who belong to that denomination. ]]How Women Are to Learn.

I wonder why God wrote....

Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
