Washington Post columnist: Christians 'pernicious'
A columnist at the Washington Post has used a column about a gardening book to deliver a dig at Christians, calling the missionaries who traveled to the Hawaiian Islands while the region still was a kingdom "pernicious."

That's the word defined in various online dictionaries as:

* "baneful: exceedingly harmful"

* "insidious: working or spreading in a hidden and usually injurious way ...

A very interesting topic. And one that should bring us to some real soul searching.

Do we preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to make little religious clones of what we think Christians should be? Or that people our Savior died for might come to know Him?

I have heard 'horror stories' of some "missionaries" in the tropics getting their 'converts' to not only put on clothes but for men heavy weight suits and ties much more suitable for chilly winter weather.

And I have also heard of missionaries in the tropics so teaching the people their that as God brought them to faith in Christ they are marked with genuine love for "Papa God" (we might say Abba Father) who ceased waring with neighboring tribes and instead began to help them with the difficult living people in the jungle have.

So what kind of "missionaries" might we be? Those that lord it over others? And compel them to live by our own personal preferances (dictates?) and culture? (like some in Galatians) Or those who God uses to bring people to know the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in Him personally?

Seems "TRUTH" is a hurtful thing for those who hear "IT" and deny "IT" !!!

2 Tim 4:2 Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.

3 For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, ...

....................... "TRUTH" IS WHAT AMERICA NEEDS !!!

Man left to his own devices is a damnably destructive force !!! -- Without GOD'S TRUTH to delineate between "RIGHT" and "wrong" man can justify anything and everything ... -- Without "TRUTH" as a guiding light for man's conscience anything goes ...

May GOD help us all to die to "self" and the flesh that we might live our lives "IN" Christ in all the fullness of GOD'S SPIRIT OF GRACE !!! -- How desperately we need THE FATHER, THE SON AND THE HOLY GHOST -- that's the only way we will live out THE REAL "TRUTH" SET FORTH IN HIS WORD !!!

Veritas Vincit !!!

"IN" Christ, KK

I love it Christians finally being bashed for what God sent us to go and tell (the Gospel), instead of the bashing that comes from high profile public confessors of Christ who fall into every Sin and bring shame to Gods name. I love it when people hate us for our obedience instead of our disobedience. Praise God.

I suppose I got some of my opinions about the early missionaries from James Mitchner's(sp?) HAWAII, the movie that is, but a commentary from one site can be seen, ]]Hawaiian Roots - Missionaries, which give a very positive spin on what they did in just two paragraphs.

A much longer piece can be found at, ]]THE HAWAIIANS and also very interesting.

Are Christians pernicious?

Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

Any Christian who is not pernicious toward Satan and the advancement of his kingdom here on earth is actually being delinquent in their duties.

These missionsaries were doing thier duties, winning souls for Christ, which the unregenerate world invariably regards as pernicious.

It is news to WND that the world hates the gospel?
That says far more about WND and their biblical illiteracy than it does about this Washington Post columnist.
