500th birthday of 'Great Reformer' John Calvin nears
GENEVA ‚ÄĒ John Calvin, the Great Reformer, used dictatorial means in making Geneva a "Protestant Rome," but he also planted the seeds of modern democracy.

He enforced rigid morality and stressed the importance of helping others, while he also had a share in developing capitalism. He supported the destruction of religious statues and other images, but described the arts as gifts from God.

This is how Calvin's role in history is being assessed by theologians and historians in countless lectures, studies and biographies 500 years after he was born on July 10, 1509. The quincentenary is being observed around the globe with the Geneva-based World Alliance of Reformed Churches acting as a central organizer of "Calvin 09." ...

You mean the Calvinist.

There is no such thing a Democracy in this country.
America is a Constitutional Republic.

This is like a birthday for the cult known as Catholicism.
Not worthy of any mention.

Wellwhatdoyouknow!!!A calvinist who reckons he knows more about calvinism than Calvin!!

So then Mr Pedagogue (cough!), presumably you did not have to do any believing to be saved. This was just an automatic reflex action upon being saved, eh? So much for "believe and thou shalt be saved"!!

Oh dear, Mr. Pedagogue. Mr Calvin might be offended at your portrayal of his comment on the "mean whereby we be made partakers of Christ" as "bits of theological plaster.." Though I do understand your reluctance to include that particular means in this discussion. When you arrive at a destination, perhaps you don't get out of the automobile?

Ransom for the souls of the unthankful faithless. Imagine that.
Now Mike and John;
Pay close attention!!
Tonights English comprehension study is on the word "MEAN"

If Mike drives from one end of New York to the other, The "MEANS" by which he goes is the Old Relic of a 99' Auto!!
(That is the car is the relic - not Mike)

This "MEANS" is actually NOT the "MEANS" unto salvation upon which the previous debate was about, in the Confession.

As you know, Mike, I not only imagine it, but believe it. Another excellent quote from Frenchie, and right on topic.

It's a shame they never preach this in Calvinistic churches, as they might see far more conversions.

Thus does CHS itemise THE MEANS in this section.

BUT

John argues for another set of "MEANS"

So perhaps his Hyper Wesley tendancy would advocate....

- are redeemed by Themselves.

- are effectually called Because they dont have wax in therir ears.

- are justified, adopted, sanctified, Because the are really nice folks.

- and are kept by His power through faith unto salvation; Because the Lord likes their works.

- neither are any but the elect redeemed by Christ, effectually called, justified, adopted, sanctified, and saved. Except by the self-assisted save effort of these not quite so bad sinners.

Tell me never ending CD, who did the believing for you when you became a Christian, assuming that you are one. Did YOU believe? Or did GOD believe for you? And if YOU did the believing, why are you criticising John UK for saying the same thing? Do you claim merit for believing? If not, then neither does John UK, so why U hassling the poor Welsh Boyo?

I don't even know where NH is Mike. But 6000 ft is twice as high as we have here in Wales. I can't imagine it. Bet you never have floods up there.

If I was good enough I'd do portaits of hypermen before they become extinct. There's not many left in England now. Whereas the New Hampshire Confession has a section on evangelism, which, as John MacArthur says, is the only reason we're not taken straight up to heaven.

You see folks how I always answer the questions of others, but they never answer mine, because they are not able.

#1 I only speaka da English, because I'm de Englishman.

#2 Me ambiguous, an apostasiser, a side-changer. Not me, man! I've always stood up for the Bible, and warned against the words of men. The nearest confession to my position has always been the 1689 Baptist, although the New Hampshire is excellent because it includes evangelism. My helpers along the way have been JC Ryle, CH Spurgeon, George Whitefield, Howell Harris, Henry T Mahan, CT Studd, and a host of others.

Now back to my question. Are you willing to have a go? Is the Lord making you willing in the day of his power? Maybe not.

So you see folks, how that God makes use of the faculties he gave to man, both to enable them to preach and to hear, and to also print Bibles, translation work, upload onto sermon audio, discern the signs of the times....oh the list is ENDLESS.

How glad I am that God has not made me a ROBOT Christian, but that he has transformed me from the inside out. This is what the Pharisees could never grasp, coz they were like whitewashed tombs or wiped over cups which were filthy inside.

Hi Mike;
Now if you had really wanted to shoot me down using Calvin, you should have gone to V9 "Many persons restrict the word gift to faith ALONE.
