Obama Says U.S. Could Be Seen as a Muslim Country, Too
As President Obama prepared to leave Washington to fly to the Middle East, he conducted several television and radio interviews at the White House to frame the goals for a five-day trip, including the highly-anticipated speech Thursday at Cairo University in Egypt.
In an interview with Laura Haim on Canal Plus, a French television station, Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as ‚Äúone of the largest Muslim countries in the world.‚ÄĚ He sought to downplay the expectations of the speech, but he said he hoped the address would raise awareness about Muslims....
If Sarah Palin had made the same remark about the USA being one of the largest Muslim countries she would have been ridiculed off the planet. This guy sees the Muslim presence in America as being SO IMPORTANT that he exaggerates its size in his mind. He announces that he will fight against all stereotypes of Muslims. He has become a defender of the Muslim faith. In a way, it's like Pres. Bush who always was at such pains to distinguish between good Muslims and radical or terroristic Muslims. It's a fair distinction, except (1) there's a lot about killing infidels in the Qu-ran, and (2) Pres. Obama is especially fawning and smarmy in his remarks, almost totally sentimentalizing Islam. I don't believe that the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim, but I do believe that the Arabs are governed by vile dictatorships, and that the terrorists in their midst must be vigorously defended against, and that the treatment of the Palestinians should not be compared to the treatment of the Jews during the Holocaust. I also do not believe in a Marshall Plan for the Arab world. They do not use American aid in a responsible way, and the Marshall Plan in Europe went to democratic countries where there were various forms of accountability in place. Ditto in Japan after WWII.
Mark M, Persians are NOT Arabs. Please get informed before commenting. Zionism is indeed secular. As a secular enterprise, Zionism has absolutely no right to Israel. You cannot come back after 2,000 years and kick out the existing inhabitants claiming the land is yours because it was inhabited by your ancestors 2,000 years ago.
I just saw a story on the news today in which our Prez is shown snuggling up to the Arabs in his calls for peace. The Arabs do want Piece...every Piece of Israel that they can get. In the story the Arab side says that the main issue standing in the way of peace is Israel vs. Palestine, but there can be no advancement of peace unless Israel gives up more land. The very next story is about Iran's Abyjabbibenoitbobhusienobama, and his allegation that the holocaust of WWII is a total fabrication. Iran is not the spokesman for all muslim countries, but he is an example of the TYPE of leader that is being dealt with in the arab world, and the types of friends that O'bama wants to make apparently.
There are many views on the nation of Israel. Is this the "real" Israel? Is the church now Israel? Should we ALWAYS support Israel? and the list goes on. I say put interpretations on the back burner. Look at it from the secular POV. Israel IS the only true ally that the U.S. has in the region. We shouldn't be forcing them to give up land that belongs to them, and we should stand with them on most if not all issues. The muslim faith calls for every non-muslim to convert or die. There is no getting around that. Conservative muslims may not follow that, but it is there.
This country has an excellent Judeo-Christian tradition.
Apparently the Arkansas Jihadist was trying to disprove that idea? ]]Arkansas jihadist had maps to Jewish organizations, a Baptist church, a child care center, a post office and military recruiting centers.
