I just ran across a couple of articles that you, and others might find interesting, Lance.

From Wikipedia, '"According to Albert Speer, Hitler remained a formal member of the Catholic Church until his death (unlike other leading Nazis who had formally, publicly and with agitation left the Church), although Speer also notes that Hitler "had no real attachment to it."[11] According to Hitler biographer John Toland, writing of Hitler's religious views and their effects: "Still a member in good standing of the Church of Rome despite detestation of its hierarchy, he carried within him its teaching that the Jew was the killer of God. The extermination, therefore, could be done without a twinge of conscience since he was merely acting as the avenging hand of God..."'

'You forgot to represent both definitions to make YOUR point.. excluded the whole meaning. Isn't that bad manners?' a critic

agreed.

'Collins English Dictionary.
Sod (slang chiefly British)
1. An unpleasant person.
2. (jocular) A person esp. an unlucky one
3. Sod all - (slang) for nothing.
4. (interj) Sod it - An exclamation of annoyance.' says Educated

No Turf?

I attempted 'further education' online and noted 'rude' and 'brit' collins dictionary-how it can be understood?

http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-cobuild/sod

It was agreed that I was bad mannered- definition:

Sod "slice of earth with grass on it," c
.1420, apparently from M.Du. sode "turf," M.L.G. sode, or O.Fris. satha "sod," all of uncertain origin. The (old) sod "Ireland" is from 1812."

Never heard it said by a British Christian except with ref. to a sod of turf

One could also try the Cambridge Dictionary where it says: (ALSO Sod it!) UK OFFENSIVE
used to express annoyance.

So it seems in Britain the term can be offensive? Maybe not in the USA.

In my home village the so-called educated and uneducated use it as an abusive swear word-

"Perhaps it is down to the kind of mind, of the person involved"

Agreed-let's leave it there.

Even if from the Biblical term Sodomite, there appears no restrictive problem in normal usage.
Perhaps it is down to the kind of mind, of the person involved.

Oh yes, some interesting comments from Professor Ignoble about how the Presbyterian, Baptist and Anglican Churches protested loudly about the fate of the Jews under Nazism.

'Sod it' in the UK 'normally' is used as follows

Sod it
Sod off
You Sod

etc.

I apologise if the poster meant it as something else in context/ yet normally classified as offensive language in the way most Brits use it. As an Englishman in my sins it was used by the the majority and I and turfing the garden was never the thought behind it.

In future when I hear it used I'll examine the context and ask if one is speaking about 'turf' or 'uncertain origin' and what they think it means

So apologies for bad manners but it was a sermonaudio first-might it catch on here then?

'Sod it I can't think of anything?'

=

'Slice of earth with grass on it I can't think of anything'
