Nearly 40 percent of babies born in the United States in 2007 were delivered by unwed mothers, according to data released last month by the National Center for Health Statistics. The 1.7 million out-of-wedlock births, of 4.3 million total births, marked a more than 25 percent jump from five years before.
Statistics such as these, which include for the second year in a row a bump in teen pregnancies, after a 14-year decline, leave Sarah Brown concerned. She worries about the children born to unwed parents -- about the disadvantages they often face, including increased likelihood of poverty and greater high school dropout rates....

Congratulations Charles to to you and your bride! Thank you for sharing your inspiring story. I listened to the marriage ceremony and it was lovely!
Isaiah 54:1 ‚ÄúSing, O barren,You who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate Than the children of the married woman,‚ÄĚ says the LORD.
That doesn't include all the babies that are aborted. Indeed, "more are the children of the desolate". My husband and I had our son before we were married and like the persons mentioned in the article it wasn't expected in my family. I wasn't brought up Christian and didn't see the need. I was pregnant at 15 and had my son at sixteen. At 17 I was listening to Christian radio and learned that my baby's dad and I needed to be married. It bugged my conscience and it was a struggle, we we married later that year when I turned 18. Now at 36 my son is all grown up and am sad to say that he is living with a woman out of wedlock. I have been one of the chief of sinners! I am so happy I had my son, but unhappy at the way my sins have influenced him. May God have mercy!
