RALEIGH, N.C. -- Within the nation's largest Protestant denomination, a woman may not lead a church or a home. But prominent Southern Baptists see nothing wrong with Sarah Palin becoming vice president -- or perhaps even commander in chief someday.
In other words: A woman can run the White House, but not her own house.
"There's no disconnect or inconsistency whatsoever," said Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. "We don't go beyond where the New Testament goes. Public office is neither a church nor a marriage."...
William wrote: While I agree McCain/Palin is a better choice than the two Socialists, I disagree that our choices are limited to the two tickets presented by the ruling oligarchy. Christians and lovers of liberty have a much better choice: CHUCK BALDWIN of the Constitution Party, the largest third party in America. Principle over politics! It's time for Americans to resist the manipulation by the so-called two-party system and stand up for liberty before we lose it!
We do have a problem, but many people miss the big picture. The problem would be, do we take another look at the role of a woman in Christianity. Many conservatives fall on both sides of this issue.
However, here's the bigger picture. Do we begrudgingly accept a woman as the Vice President or a murderer?
The Bible has to spell out that a woman shouldn't be pastor, but it goes without saying that an abortionist should be excomunicated (comparing apples and oranges here). I'll take the woman as the world leader over the murderer.
It's not a question of the greater of two evils - if both are wrong then they are equally wrong, but you have to pick one - so it's a question of wisdom. Which is going to glorify God most - which is going to bring about the cultural mandate in a greater way? I will take Palin over Biden or Obama any day
Sarah Palin should be at home with a new child and her 17 year old daughter who will need a mother more than Sarah needs to be in politics. Palin has her priority wrong. Her family is in crisis and NO MOTHER present to help If you believe Scripture, she is to be at home for the moment,
Mike wrote: Perhaps Deborah should have stayed home with Lapidoth, instead of going off with Barak and his army. We mustn't insinuate that Lapidoth gave permission for Deborah to delegate her wifely responsibility in order that she might direct an army. Was she a closet Republican?
Mike, Matthew Henry suggests that Lapidoth may have been a place rather than a fella. But of course Henry wasn't from New York.
Perhaps Deborah should have stayed home with Lapidoth, instead of going off with Barak and his army. We mustn't insinuate that Lapidoth gave permission for Deborah to delegate her wifely responsibility in order that she might direct an army. Was she a closet Republican?
It's the same as Bob Jones and Albert Mohler supporting a Mormon for POTUS. This leaves Evangelicals open to a charge of hypocrisy. No woman in combat unless she is the Commander In Chief of the Army doing the work of a war, namely killing and breaking things ? To insinuate that Todd's giving permission for Sarah to delegate her wifely and motherly responsibility in order to be in politics is lame. No wonder many reprobates accuse us of having earthly rather than Biblical reasons for supporting the Republican ticket. Vote as you wish, but don't manipulate your theology in an attempt to sway other believers away from clear Biblical teaching! "Ye make your own traditions of more value than the Word of God".
From the article, the SBA doesn't give a good enough reason to back a woman. e.g., ]]Instruction to Wives, Mothers & Their Husbands--A Study of Women’s Roles. I do believe the "Nanny State" is indicative of a decline of country, in spite of those who many consider good leaders Margaret Thatcher and Golda Meir. When the best man is a woman, it is really time to start worrying.
Ms. Palin, is running for a job which is usually ceremonial, but it does make for a bad precedent. One has to see if the other important set of candidates that she and Senator McCain, are more anti-Israeli, pro-abortion, or just plain lie more. This then makes one want to use a decision matrix to decide what to do, and usually the sin of omission, is really not any better than commission, when it comes to voting. It is great to know that man proposes and God disposes. ]]Rendering To Caesar: A Biblical Perspective On Government.
