Study reveals shocking content on BET, MTV
LOS ANGELES (BP)--Children who watched certain daytime shows on cable's MTV and BET were exposed to adult content -- including that of a sexual, violent, profane or obscene nature -- once every 38 seconds, according to a study by the Parents Television Council.

"We thought we'd seen it all, but even we were taken aback by what we found in the music video programs on MTV and BET that are targeted directly at impressionable children," said Tim Winter, president of the pro-family watchdog group.

Delman Coates, an African American pastor and founder of the Enough is Enough Campaign to push for change and accountability from networks like MTV and BET, asked the Parents Television Council to conduct the study in order to increase awareness of the destructive images on television that are negatively impacting society. ...

None of this is NEW news. This kind of programming from these two networks has been offered for two decades.

Ever heard of the "V" chip? ]]V-Chip: Viewing Television Responsibly, there is the on/off switch? You can remove the t.v., entirely, but the kids could watch this junk at a friend's house. The best thing is good training so children can recognize trash for what trash is.

"Study reveals shocking content on BET, MTV".

They needed to conduct a STUDY to determine this???

I don't watch either channel, but flipping the dial
one day, I came across a bisexual reality dating show.
Curious, I looked up the channel number and found that
it was MTV (which used to show music videos back in the
80s). Need I say more?

Any surprise that our society is where it is today when we're pumping the next generation with this kind of garbage? Garbage IN, Garbage OUT. The real surprise is that so many "Christians" are feeding their families the same garbage. If not in cable television, then in DVD rentals, movies, music, and video games. The attack on the home is coming in from every angle folks. Time to put the gloves on and start fighting back. The souls of our children are at stake.

Even if MTV et al. cleaned up their act as demanded, there's a flood of other sources of obscenity. With cable TV, parents can easily solve this at the "demand" side. 1st, cable boxes let you "lock out" certain channels. 2nd, opting out of cable service altogether can free up around $40/mo., at least in our area. Even the good stuff on cable (e.g. Cooking Channel, CSPAN) isn't worth it for this rate, IMHO.
