DENVER ‚ÄĒ A lesbian couple from nearby Englewood are seeking to overturn Colorado‚Äôs constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, in what is thought to be the first challenge to the 2006 ballot initiative that established it.
The couple, Kate Burns and Sheila Schroeder, appeared Wednesday before Judge James B. Breese of Denver County Court to face a trespassing charge stemming from a brief sit-in they staged on Sept. 24, when, accompanied by their minister, they were refused a marriage license from the Denver Clerk and Recorder Office. Judge Breese set a trial date of April 14.
Earlier this week, Ms. Burns and Ms. Schroeder filed a motion with the court claiming that Amendment 43, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman, violated their constitutional right to equal protection. The measure was approved by 55 percent of Colorado voters 15 months ago....
It's too bad that this "minister" apparently never read Romans 1. If, after reading Romans 1, this "minister" would still marry these 2 women, he should repent, find a different job and hopefully come to his/her senses. Romans 1, alone, is so crystal clear about the terrible sin of same sex marriage, that a child, reading the same chapter would call this situation a "grievious sin". I didn't even begin to quote all the other examples in Scripture forbidding such a henious sin as this.
Well, this side of eternity, they can do whatever they want to make void a ban on this sin. However, after their death, if they do not repent, there will be no way to make void what has already been established by God in the Scriptures. They would be better off to repent now and live correctly instead of facing the consequences after death.
Sounds like Colorado has it right, though the Nebraska Constitutional Amendment on the topic has survived court challenges to wit, "Only marriage between a man and a woman shall be valid or recognized in Nebraska. The uniting of two persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership or other similar same-sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Nebraska."
