Study: U.S. music awash in booze and drugs
U.S. popular music is awash with lyrics about drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Medical researchers have reviewed the words of the 279 top songs of 2005 to estimate just how common they are.

Their report on Monday showed a third of the songs had explicit references to substance abuse. And two-thirds of these references placed drugs, alcohol and tobacco in a positive light by associating them with sex, partying and humor, according to the team led by Dr. Brian Primack of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

They calculated that with Americans aged 15 to 18 listening to 2.4 hours of music daily, they hear 84 musical references to substance use a day and more than 30,000 a year. ...

I agree. This is hardly a new problem.

60's rockers sang about psychadelics.
70's rockers sang about pot.
80's rockers sang about cocain.
90's rockers sang about rave-drugs.

Songs may be more common and blatant
now but it's just the continuation of
an old trend.

Only real change I notice is having
to show my ID now when I need to by
cold/flu medicine!

It is ironic to hear these medical researchers complain of substance abuse. Thanks to them, doctors reflexively prescribe whatever the drug co. reps tell them to. The problem is not expensive medication, but too much medication.
Yep
Neil, Tucson must be country, I think it was country before country was cool.

Keep the people drunk, on drugs, and ignorant.

You may never find a church with its doors open at 11pm, but the bars and the pushers are always there.

Someone in the Bible said, and how will they hear?

Its in the music, right, I know lets continue making the songs, that ok, who are we to judge. But lets put rated R
That will stop the problem.

Dr. R.T. Trall says:  Find all comments by Dr. R.T. Trall says:
"The medical profession holds a most false relation to society. Its honors and emoluments are measured, not by the good, but by the evil it does. The physician who keeps some member of the family of his rich neighbor on a bed of sickness for months or years, may secure to himself thereby both fame and fortune; while the one who would restore the patient to health in a week or two, will be neither appreciated nor understood. If a physician, in treating a simple fever, which if left to itself or to Nature would terminate in health in two or three weeks, drugs the patient into half a dozen chronic diseases, and nearly kills him half a dozen times, and prolongs his sufferings for months, he will receive much money and many thanks for carrying him safely through so many complications, relapses, and collapses. But if he cures in a single week, and leaves him perfectly sound, the pay will be small, and the thanks nowhere, because he has not been very sick!"

Allopathy is false. Acupuncture is false. Homeopathy is false. Humoralism is false. "Witch doctoring" is false. No theory of disease can be conclusively demonstrated by empirical methods.

"No matter how learned a man may be, if he begins a problem in arithmetic with the proposition 2x2=5, he never will arrive at a correct solution if he continue to figure into all eternity. Neither can allopathy solve the problem of disease and cure as long as its fundamental conception of disease is based on error."

Even worse, Neil, (You must have burned your t.v. set, and sometimes that's a good idea. ) The huge amount of advertisements for prescription drugs on t.v. They have taken the place of tobacco products. I wish they were banned from t.v. just like the tobacco ads.
