666 Draws Comment in House of Commons
LONDON - The beast of the Book of Revelation intruded into the banter of the House of Commons on Thursday when a motion calling for the disestablishment of the Church of England was numbered 666.

The last book of the Bible says 666 is the number of a beast that "had two horns like a lamb, and ... spake as a dragon," and that "doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men."

"It is incredible that a motion like this should have, by chance, acquired this significant number," said Bob Russell, a Liberal Democrat lawmaker. ...

Just a point of information: Greek has no indefinite article, so you can't build an argument on the word being "a man" as opposed to merely "man".

Moreover, the Greek does instruct the reader to "calculate" (psephizoo) the number of the beast, not merely "interpret", a different word entirely had that been intended. The ancient cryptic practice of gematria, where each letter of a word had a numerical value, and the total of the letter values added up to a final number, seems to be what the text intends.

The problem was, and remains, what that underlying word is. The suggestions have been legion.

i think it is important to know that Rev 13 v 18 never seems to have had the word 'a' in it, the Greek originals say '666' is the 'number of man' - not 'the number of A man'. We were created on Day 6, Solomon's treasure was '666' shekels, etc - therefore 6 seems to be our earthly, grabby self. And furthernore, we are either 'marked' with that number - OR by God on our 'foreheads', as in Ezekiel 9 v 4 - obviously NOT a physical mark! So regardless of 666, Barcodes etc which do contain it, we should have the assurance of that spiritual mark, ensuring our entry into that spiritual Book of Life, by virtue of His work on the Cross.

So, I just guess that The House of Commons just "figurative(ly)" numbered 666 their motion calling for the "disestablishment of the Church of England" this last Thursday!

Very much like "sir straightforward" is "figurative(ly)" a sir straightforward!

Revelation 13:16-18 (King James Version)
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Here is wisdom
for it is the number of a man
and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
he is indeed real
Let him that hath understanding

or in their foreheads

Does your bible say "on"

Today everyone knows about microchips
The idea of planting something under the
skin is pretty new.
Hence other versions (you know the 666
new ones) in the last 666 years say on
because it's only logical, you do to
New International Version (NIV)
16He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead
mark on their right hand or on their forehead,
on , its new

"The motion simply states: "That this House calls for the disestablishment of the Church of England" -- in other words ending its status as the country's legally established, official faith."

""Official FAITH""

Well I suppose Liberalism is the official faith of the political looneys in Britain today.

So why disestablish the church which upholds their complete ignorance anyway???

Bring back Cromwell!!!

Can`t be many in that talking shop knows much of what The Bible says about anything.
They`re much more interested in feathering their own nest as recent revelations reveal.

So is Russell conceding (against all my expectations) that the Bible should be taken seriously?

I smell a PR stunt. Perhaps this motion was deliberately not tabled until no. 665 was used up.
