Half Southern Baptist Pastors Believe in Gift of Tongues
Half of Southern Baptist pastors say they believe the Holy Spirit gives some people a special language to pray to God – what is known to some as private prayer language – a surprising new study found.

Amid ongoing discussions, LifeWay Research, a department of LifeWay Christian Resources, wanted to determine the perceptions and opinions of Southern Baptist Convention leaders on an issue that has been a topic of interest, indicated Brad Waggoner, vice president of research and ministry development at LifeWay.

Results of the study showed that overall, 63 percent of Protestant senior pastors believe in the gift of a private prayer language. Within the SBC, 50 percent of pastors believe in the gift and 43 percent do not. ...

Abigail, no Pastor Gil Rugh doesn't agree with everything Scofield said, but considering yesterday's morning sermon, which should be up by this Friday, just about any Bible student would agree with Scofield's assessement, that I gave. However, you may wish to get some background of what Gil will say in that sermon, by listening to the previous week's.

I care not what Scofield wrote. He brought in many heresies.

I believe the KJV of the bible.

"Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come." (John 16:13)

"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." (I John 2:27)

Well, if the Scofield notes say that, then it must be right?!

Abigail:
"1Corinthians 14
1. Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual [gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy.

[Scofield Notes 1917]
[1] {rather}

The subject is still the pneumatika. Chapter 12, described the gifts
and the Body; Chapter 13. the love which alone gives ministry of gift
any value; Chapter 14. regulates the ministry of gift in the
primitive, apostolic assembly of saints. (1) The important gift is
that of prophecy (v. 1). The N.T. prophet was not merely a preacher,
but an inspired preacher, through whom, until the N.T. was written,
new revelations suited to the new dispensation were given
# 1Co 14:29,30
(2) Tongues and the sign gifts are to cease, and meantime
must be used with restraint, and only if an interpreter be present
# 1Co 14:1-19,27,28
(3) In the primitive church there was liberty for the ministry of all
the gifts which might be present, but for prophecy more especially
# 1Co 14:23-26,31,39
(4) In such meetings, when "the whole church" came together "in one
place," women were required to keep silence
# 1Co 14:34,35 11:3-16 1Ti 2:11-14
(5) These injunctions are declared to be "the commandments of the Lord"
# 1Co 14:36,37"

Baptist used to mean that that person or church stood on the authority of Scripture. It is a shame that some Baptist want to be included in the heresy and the I Corithian heresy of our day. Jesus came to seek and save the "Lost" and the true doctrinally sound "Bride" will take on that purpose as the "One Flesh Principle" would have a Bride be concerned with the wishes of the betrothed.

I am saddened by this survey......it's sad that we evaluate everything by polls and surveys instead of the Word of God. If you are one of these Southern Baptist leaders reading this report, I want to encourage you to listen to the following link: http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?currSection=sermonssource&sermonID=922028022

"He can easily understand when He is being insulted."

God knows the thoughts and intenst of the heart. God knows unspoken desires and lusts. God understands the jibberish of little babies.

He is the one that ordained other tongues and unknown tongues. People can mock and ridicule, but beware. Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is an unpardonable sin, and you well know.

I guess that must make them special.

Half of SBC pastors thinks God appreciates jibberish? God, can easily understand anyone's native tongue, He can easily understand when he's being insulted.
