Pope to grapple with Darwin
(ANSA) - Rimini, August 24 - Pope Benedict XVI is to brainstorm on evolution with a top theologian accused of championing controversial theories that rubbish Darwin .

The theologian, Vienna Archbishop Christoph Schoenborn, announced the September 1-3 session at a Catholic rally this week where he reaffirmed his belief that the universe could not have come about in a random way .

However, this time Schoenborn was keen to stress that so-called 'intelligent design' - a subject of massive controversy in the United States - did not rule out some element of "the unplanned" . ...

cont. (Excerpts from John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress

"Now while I was gazing upon all these things, I turned my head to look back, and saw IGNORANCE come up to the River side: but he soon got over, and that without half that difficulty which the other two men met with. For it happened, that there was then in that place one VAIN-HOPE a Ferry-man, that with his Boat helped him over...

IGNORANCE answers the men at the Gate:
"I have eat and drank in the presence of the King, and he has taught in our Streets."

Then they asked him for his Certificate, that they might go in shew it to the King...

Having none, the two shining ones by command of the King, bound IGNORANCE hand and foot and put him at the door on the side of the hill

Revelation 22:14,15

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Mark,

CHR: "How doest thou believe?"
IGNORANCE: "I believe that Christ died for sinners, and that I shall be jsutified before God from the curse, through his gracious acceptance of my obedience to his Law: Or thus, Christ makes my Duties that are Religious, acceptable to his Father by virtue of his Merits; and so shall I be justified."

After Christian gives him 4 proofs of true faith...

IGNORANCE: "What! would you have us trust to what Christ in his own person has done without us? This conceit would loosen the reines of our lust, and tollerate us to live as we list: For what matter how we live if we may be Justified by Christs personal righteousness from all, when we believe it?

I say you are both right...and both wrong. In the end we will see three views; mine, yours, and God's. God will be the one who is correct and set us all straight about these denomenational contravercies. As long as one has submitted to Christ for forgiveness of sins, and at least tries to follow the scripture, then you're in. The danger comes when any of us are spoken to by the Holy Spirit about our particular denomenation or sect, and we decide to love the religious tradition rather than/more than Christ. Of course that would be between the individual and God. Do I think Catholics are a cult or birthplace of Anti-Christ? I doubt it. Are there a lot of practices that are contrary to the Bible? Yes; the office of the Pope, prayer to Mary and the Saints (I see nothing wrong with honoring them, but praying to them is a no, no), Purgatory, confessing to priests/rites of contrition, and in general their teaching of salvation by works, to name but a few. That said, I can list so many things wrong with Protestants just as easily. Personally, I don't think being a Catholic in and of itself will condemn a person to Hell, but there will be a lot of explaining to do. Of course your interpretations may vary.

Fuzzy Logic, you certainly sound convinced that you have found the true path.

Lance,

You are exactly right. Regardless of what you read or what you are told, you will always retain your "view" until you submit (physically, mentally, soulfully, spiritually) to our reigning Lord of Lords and King of Kings, Christ Jesus.

I can understand you position, however. Today's protestants submit themselves to their pastor as if he were some kind of pope. Turn on Daystar or TBN and listen to all the false teachings. Some pastors barely teach scriptural truths.

Compare all you want...Argue day after day...Debate which 'religion' is more blasphemous...But know this, "it is hard to kick against the pricks." The more you defend your "view," the more the devil and his minions triumph. In the end, YOU LOSE!

Fuzzy Logic (and Wayne), I didn't see anything in Wikipedia that contradicted my view.

The Reformers attempted to return to what they imagined was the original Christianity. They tried hard, especially Calvin, but in the end all they had to rely on was their personal interpretation of events.

Romanism is a poor defense against evolution, Darwinism, Communism, Islam, and just about any other ism because it is based upon the teachings of man, not the Scriptures only. Diehard Romanists, such as Lance, insist Romanism preceeded Protestantism. The truth is Protestantism is based upon the basic principles and common system of doctrine taught by the Reformers and evangelical churches whose teachings go back to the New Testament and the first century Christian church. Protestanism was not something new, as Lance would have us to believe, but a return to Bible Christianity and the simplicity of the Apostolic church. The Roman church had long since departed from that.

Why is the Pope grappling with Darwin....He's blind, that's why..just like Darwin was blind also. The Bible's record just isn't good enough for many christians who aren't really Christians: In the beginning God created.....in six days..etc.

Lance,

Go to Wikipedia or your home set encyclopedia and look up Catholicism. Then look up Protestantism.

Which one precedes the other?

Fuzzy Logic, Catholic priests and theologians have been reading Genesis and considering its meaning since long before any Protestant thought to do it.

Why not post stories about his Unholiness? It gives Christians someone they can point out isn't a Christian! There is a good article about the former Pope's stance on Evolution, and this Pope isn't going to change it,

This for example, is a good one on where Popes stand on Evolution,

http://www.icr.org/article/812/190/

I see the sermons by John Whitcomb on the topic of Evolution, on SermonAudio. They will be good to listen to.

Why does SermonAudio keep posting Pope stories?

RE: the article,

Don't Catholic priests in seminary read Genesis?

The ANTICHRIST is NOT THE POPE! The Antichrist is Spirit. Any spirit that opposes the teachings AND LIFESTYLE of Christ is Antichrist.
