Ecumenical Dialogue for Evangelicals, Pentecostals
World Evangelical leaders joined their Pentecostal counterparts to welcome better relations with members of the World Council of Churches (WCC) on Monday. The drive for a greater co-operation in the future came as WCC members gathered for their 9th Assembly currently taking place Feb. 14-23 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost in Ghana, the Rev Michael Ntumy, also made an emotional call for closer connections between Pentecostal and WCC churches.
Inviting a more unified future, he said that if Pentecostal, WCC churches and the Roman Catholic Church were to come together “we would become a spiritual colossus in the hands of God."...
Any saved person has the Holy Spirit. There is no salvation without it.Romans 8:9"...Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." Romans 8:14"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."Nothing is said here about jabbering in some unintelligible jibberish, falling in the floor, jumping, falling backward,or any of the other so-called "manifestations" claimed by charismatics. Also,Luke 11:13"...how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" That IS "plain and simple" ASK,not pray down, work up,or be taught how to jabber. Too many people today seem to think that their experiences or the experiences of others, or somehow because it "feels good", or "felt wonderful" makes it right or overrules Bible doctrine. If my memory serves me anything close to accurately, before I was saved by the Grace of God,fornication felt pretty good, and getting drunk felt wonderful, but I would not dare to say that those things were right or not sinful,Amen? People's experiences or feelings do NOT overrule or cancel the Word of God Too much time and effort is wasted in trying to justify some modern-day heresy and not Bible study
I commented a comment on this thread and was "censored" for my statement. Is this website fearful of the Historic TRUTH with regards to Pentecostals, their Historic roots in The Methodist Church, Bob Jones University being originally founded as AN ESSENTIALIST/FUNDAMENTALIST METHODIST SCHOOL; which later went INTERDENOMINATIONAL (PROTESTANT) and then to their present NONDENOMINATIONAL position?
I say this because I have gone to highschool (1974-1978) with classmates who were Pentecostals; and who attended Bob Jones University in the middle 70s to early 80s.
In my past conversations with them; they assured me that they didn't believe that "speaking in 'tongues'" was necessarily a prerequisite to being "saved" (Salvation); or a "sign" of being more "spiritual" than those who never and/or do not presently "speak in 'tongues'" in thier Christian "walk" (Sanctification).
Please forgive me if I sound as if I'm a Pentecostal or a "Charismatic"; but, the "GIFTS AND CALLING OF GOD ARE WITHOUT REPENTANCE". ROMANS 11:29.
My brother John, who attended Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin back in the late 1970s/early 1980s -- has recently been ordained into an Independent Church of God in Christ in Aurora, IL.
"The "gift of the Holy Spirit" does not have to be prayed down, worked up,or taught. That is not Biblical teaching"
"How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask." Now, I may have a degree with a concentration in English, but I don't think the above quote from the Lord needs high academic credentials to make sense of it. The Spirit is given to those who ask, plain and simple.
If the pentecostals/charismatics claim the day of pentecost in Acts 2, then why do they have to teach people how to speak in tongues? Why all the emotional buildup? Also, why is this type of so-called "worship" only about 100 years old, except in pagan and voodoo rituals? Were all the people who recieved Christ Jesus from Pentecost till 1900 really not saved? The evidence of being filled with the Holy Ghost in the New Testament was a changed life, bold witness, converted sinners(3000 on the day of pentecost)and spiritual fruit(Galations 5:22-24),whereas the emphasis in charismatic circles is tongues jibber-jabber)and carnal fruit(Galations 5:19-21) Sure is a world of difference in New Testament Holy Spirit filling and what is passed off today The "gift of the Holy Spirit" does not have to be prayed down, worked up,or taught. That is not Biblical teaching. It is patently impolite,if not downright rude to ask for a GIFT,is it not?
If the modern day (New Age) tongues movement was anything more than the old day voodoo, shaman, witch doctor,etc.self-induced (or satan induced)mass hypnotism, I would have no problem with fellowship. But I find no indication in the Bible that this has anything to do with the Holy Spirit of God. Can you find any place in the Bible where anyone did the things that are prominent in the so-called "pentecostal" movement? Where is the "mighty wind" and "tongues of fire" and the 17 distinct languages that were understood without an "interpreter"in the book of Acts? Is that found today? No,it is not! But what IS found is unintelligible jibberish, falling backward(in the Bible people "fell on their faces" in reverance to God)jerking, false healings, laughing, teeth fillings, barking???,dancing in the spitit, jumping straight up(like the voodoo practitioners)and other such foolishness as is not found anywhere in the Word of God.I challenge you to find the new age pentecostal movement in the Word of God!! Can you find it? Do any of the charismatics follow the guidelines given in 1 Cor.14?"...let it be by two,or at the most by three, and that by course(ONE AT A TIME)...if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church.."obviously languages, not jibberish.
While I agree Babylon should be seen as a false church like organization, I believe we Christians err in labeling our brothers with it. I feel Islam fits this prophesy much better. I could be wrong, however, but I just don`t see "the blood of the saints" and all nations "drinking the wine of her wrath" fitting with the description of any Christian sects today. We are also told that she says in her heart "I am no widow, I will never see greef". Think mabe this could refer to Islam`s denial of the death of Christ? Just a thought...
"This WCC/Charismatic Colossus is in the hands of Satan"
What Charismatic Christians are you talking about here, Jim. Hopefully not all of them. Many are independent and confess Jesus as Lord. To deny the gifts of the Spirit or to forbid them is equally a doctrine sown by satan. Just be careful with your discernment.
WHY SHOULD GENUINE HISTORIC HOLY BIBLE ONLY "SOLA ESCRITURA" CATHOLICS, HISTORIC BIBLE PROTESTANTS AND INDEPENDENT BIBLICAL LITERALISTS BE SHOCKED AND SURPRISED BY THE CHAIRMAN OF "THE 'CHURCH' OF PENTECOST" IN GHANA: THE [IR]REV. MICHAEL NTUMY, AND HIS WORDS "WE WOULD BECOME A SPIRITUAL COLOSSUS IN THE HANDS OF (THE) GOD (OF THIS WORLD: A.K.A. SATAN HIMSELF).".
THE PSEUDO-FUNDAMENTALIST "BAPTIST", "DR." JACK VAN IMPE HAS BEEN CALLING THE SATANIC-VATICANIST ROMAN "CATHOLIC" CULTISTS HIS "BROTHERS & SISTERS IN 'CHRIST'" FOR THE LAST THREE DECADES! ! ! ! ! !
IS IT ANY WONDER THAT THOSE DECEIVED BY THE APOSTATE OF PROTESTANTISM: "BILLY GRAHAM", THAT FALSE-PROPHET OF "PROPHECY": "JACK VAN IMPE" AND THE PRESENT APOSTATE PENTECULTIST/"PENTECOSTALIST": [IR]REV. NTUMY; WOULD BE SPUTTERING AND SPITTING THAT SAME SATANIC STUPIDITY OF SACRILEGIOUS & SPIRITUAL/RELIGIOUS SUICIDE KNOWN AS ONE-WORLD-GLOBAL (VATICANIST CONSPIRED) UNIVERSAL ECCLESIASTICAL ECUMENISM! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
John your tongue betrays you. James 1 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion [is] vain.
As I mentioned before Gil Rugh's booklet on Promise Keeper, which would be a fit description of this: http://www.ihcc.org/images/booklets/pdf/L116.pdf
This WCC/Charismatic Colossus is in the hands of Satan. I know many of you like what John MacArthur says, so here is a sermon that has details about people who cannot identify who are Christians or not.
You really are totally off of your rocker. What is your problem anyway? Are you against unity in Christianity? The Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church and Mainline Protestant Churches(Except for the culst of Jehovah Witness, Mormons and Christian Science) all believe that Christ is God and believe in the Holy Trinity and thus they are True Christian Churches.
