Church Agrees to Ban Swallowing Goldfish
FLORENCE, Ala. - The First Assembly of God Church has agreed to discontinue its practice of swallowing live goldfish as part of its Fear Factor ministry.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has asked for a ban on the practice.

Spokeswoman Amy Rhodes said the organization was flooded with calls earlier this month after a story about the program was published in the TimesDaily.

PETA contacted the church seeking confirmation of a ban on the activity.

Pentecostalism, which may have many Christians in its movement, does great damage to Christianity by their behavior. Speaking in tongues nowadays is foolishness. This gift passed away in the early Church era.

I hope that this sermon covers the topic:

on the spiritual gifts.

In Pentecostal churches, is any of this seen?

(ASV)
1Corinthians 14
23 If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues, and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad?
27 If any man speaketh in a tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most three, and [that] in turn; and let one interpret:
28 but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

You see! I told you going under the water in immersion was dangerous.
Something fishy going on here!

Ian Paisley, in one of his famous old sermons at BJU (I forget which but it's on this site), mentioned swallowing a goldfish as an example of a preacher "polluting the Gospel."

KC,
I esentially was raised Assembly of God doctrinally. Having read histories on the pentecostal movement, many of these people have drifted very far from their pentecostal forbears in word and deed. Last month there was an article which reported on this same church doing the practice and the concern it created. Good to see they've banned it. It's good to know we also don't need to judge one another's spirituality based on signs and wonders, speaking in tongues, and all the other doctrinal confusion of pentecostalism and the charismatic movement.

Well, as long as they're banning this, they should ban a whole lot more nonsense

"The First Assembly of God Church has agreed to discontinue its practice of swallowing live goldfish as part of its Fear Factor ministry."

Ok, now get back into the word of God and you'll be a correct assembly of God. Where do we see the Apostles holding fear factor ministries? Where do they even state a fear factor?

"People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has asked for a ban on the practice."

What's really sad is that it took a secular orgainization, an animal rights group, to help clear the smog in that church. The Bible alone should have been sufficient. However, many pentecostal people are really trying to look just like the world. I know one city had "Art and Wine in the Park," a few years later there was "Jesus In the Park" in the same city. Why not just have a church gathering focused on an open and verbally preached Bible and call it good? It was good enough for the Apostles, it's good enough for me.
