Legislation that would require the state to teach the "theory of intelligent design" in public schools failed to get any support in an Arkansas House of Representatives committee on Wednesday.
Rep. Mark Martin, R-Prairie Grove, wants the state to teach, along with the theory of evolution, the theory that "certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause and not by an undirected process such as natural selection." Martin, who describes himself as conservative Christian, said he doesnâ€™t want schools to teach children that God exists or that evolution is wrong. Scientific teaching simply should take on a more "agnostic" view, he said.

This state senator was right in that Intelligent Design is a better explanation than Darwinism -- but being dogmatic in a state Legislature makes his bill not being part of survival of the fitess of legislative bills. He may have not really wanted to get a bill like this passed. If that is the case, he guaranteed that.
