WASHINGTON â€” An unidentified man jumped the fence surrounding the White House along Pennsylvania Ave. Thursday morning and was immediately taken into custody, the Secret Service said.
Secret Service personnel apprehended the man and he was being questioned. According to Secret Service spokesman John Gill, the intruder reportedly had "thrown something" into the fountain located on the North Lawn prior to being caught, but officials said it was not a dangerous object.
President Bush was in North Carolina at the time of the incident.
The man was to be charged later with illegal entry, Gill said....
