The US military have started using a slow low-flying ground attack aircraft in their raids on Afghanistan. A mission is under way using the Air Force Special Forces AC-130 gunships alongside an elite helicopter unit, government sources told US television station Fox News.
Sources reportedly said the mission was targeting Brigade 55, the Taleban's special forces, south of Kandahar.
The Taleban has been targeted on multiple fronts on Tuesday, with air strikes on military bases and airports outside the capital of Kabul, the Taleban stronghold of Kandahar in the south and the key northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif.
