I'd like to welcome everybody to a Faith in God Bible Church lecture. Let us approach the throne of God. Heavenly Father, we acknowledge you as the one true God who spoke the heaven and earth into existence. I pray for the gift of teaching. I pray that you bless this church, bless this ministry. I pray that you open up the eyes and ears of your elect. I pray that you protect us. I pray that you guide us. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I pray. Amen. All right, turn with me to 2 Samuel chapter 1 for the reading of the scripture. Now it came to pass after the death of Saul when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag. It came even to pass on the third day that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent and earth upon his head. And so it was when he came to David that he fell to the earth and did and did obeisance. And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped. And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead. And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead? And the young man that told him said as I happened by chance upon the mount of Gilboa. Behold Saul leaned upon the spear and lo the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him and when he looked behind him he saw me and called unto me and I answered here am I. And he said unto me, who art thou? And I answered, I am a Amalekite. And he said unto me again, stand I pray thee upon me and slay me for the anguish has come upon me because my life is yet whole in me. Basically saying his life is still in him. He's in pain. and his attempt to take his own life didn't turn out too well. So I stood upon him and slew him because I was sure that he could not live, that he was fallen and I took the crown that was upon his head and the Brexit that was on his arm and I brought them hither unto my Lord. All right now, okay. We got this guy. He's a Amalekite. and he slayed the king of Judah, Saul. Now I wonder how David is going to respond to that because you know for a fact that even though Saul tried to kill David many many times David still honored Saul as king and respected him because at once he was the anointed of God but what David fellows realized that the anointing left Saul, but David didn't know that. So let's see how David reacts to this. Then David took hold on his clothes and rimmed them and likewise all the men that were with him. And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening. for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the Lord, and for the house of Israel, because they were fallen by the sword. And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite. And David said unto him, How was thou not afraid to stretch forth thy hand to destroy the Lord's anointed? Uh oh, it's about to get intense in here now. Because David wants to know, you know, you're a malachite and you just took forth your hand and slain one of God's anointed. So it's about to get intense. Let's see what happens next. And David called one of the young men and said, go near and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. Well, we saw that turned out. I don't think David appreciated this Amalekite slaying one of God's anointed. So I guess they applied the Old Testament law, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And he definitely got an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, even though the Amalekite thought he was doing something. you know thought he was doing a good deed but little did he know we have a heathen who slayed one of God's anointed or used to be anointed but yet still he's a heathen and I think David considered the fact that he's a heathen who slayed one of God's anointed and of course for that David decided to take his life had one of his soldiers take his life so it didn't end well for that guy unfortunately and David said unto him Thy blood be upon thy head, for thy mouth has testified against thee, saying, I have slain the Lord's anointed. And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan, and his son. Now check this out. This is David's lamentation. This is very beautiful. Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bowl. Behold, it is written in the book of Jasher. The beauty of Israel is slain upon the high places. How are the mighty fallen? Tell it not in Gath. Publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon. Least the daughters of the Philistines rejoice. Least the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. Ye mountains of Gilbal, let there be no, do neither let there be rain upon you, nor fields of offering, for there the shield of the mighty is a valley, cast the shield of Saul, as through he had not been anointed with oil. From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan's turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty. Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles, and they were stronger than lions. Yet the daughters of Israel weep over Saul, who clothed thee in scarlet, and over Delight, who put on ornaments of gold upon your appeal. How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle? O Jonathan, thou was slain in thy high places. I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan. Very pleasant has thou been unto me. Thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. How are thy mighty fallen, the weapon of war, perished? Wow, this is what David had to say about Jonathan and Saul. And that was a very very powerful remark he said as he lamented over the two. Actually the whole entire family, Casals entire family got wiped out in battle. But when we look back and think about and meditate on the covenant that Jonathan and David made with each other and that covenant where their two houses would never be at war with each other. And unfortunately, you know, Jonathan's gone, Saul's gone, the two brothers are gone. So I guess that covenant's gone now. That's an unfortunate thing. All right, turn with me to 2 Samuel 2. And it came to pass after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto them, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Until he run. So he's going to go up to Hebron, because God told him to. So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahimd Ol-Em, Jezreel Itis, Ab-Agel, Nabal's wife, the Carmelite. And his men that was with him of David bring up every man with his household and they dwelt in the city of Hebron. And the men of Judah came and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David saying that the men of Jezebel were they that buried Saul. And David sent messages to the men of Jezebel and said unto them, blessed be the Lord that ye have showed this kindness unto your Lord, even unto Saul, and buried him. And now the Lord show kindness and truth unto you, and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing. Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and ye be valiant, for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them. Wow, there we have it. There we have it. David has now been anointed king over Judah, But unfortunately Saul had to die in combat before he could take the position. Jonathan and the rest of his brothers were killed in combat. So we see that David is anointed king over Judah but unfortunately Israel is at war with the Philistines. So he's been put in leadership position right in the middle of the storm. And when we look at that and let's try to connect it to modern day applications. Sometimes you as a Christian are going to be placed in a leadership position right in the middle of a storm just like King David is placed into one. But when we reflect on this trials and tribulations and David's pathway to the king it really wasn't an easy one considering it started out with David slaying Goliath the enemy of Israel and chopping off his head killing the command center and then we have jealousy going on between David and Saul actually Saul was envious of David because David was a better warrior, a better fighter and he knew that. And Saul also knew the anointing left him. But during this process we see that David never ever disrespected Saul as king even though he had many opportunities to take his life while Saul was pursuing them. And of course we have the covenant that David and Jonathan made. I guess it's a hurtful thing that Jonathan got killed in battle and all the men mourned over Jonathan and Saul and Saul's family. So there we have it. We have David becomes King of Judah and he becomes King of Judah right in the midst of battle, right in the midst of the storm. Wow, this is definitely, definitely the word of God at work. Taking his best guy, put him in the middle of times of battle, times of discomfort, and times of uncertainty. Because, you know, you never know how the war is going to turn out. But you know something? David, the king of Judah, will have the victory because God is with him. So what have we learned? We learned that David, the first king or the prototype king of Judah, because David is considered the prototype king of Judah. There has never been another king of Judah like King David. And the only king that surpasses King David is King Jesus. But remember, they call Jesus the lion from the tribe of Judah. And when we think about the Davidic covenant, everything fits in, everything fits in. Jesus Christ the Lion from the tribe of Judah and David the King of Judah, Warrior King. Amen. So we're going to close this lecture out, this series. This is the last part of the series. With that being said, for those of you who've been hanging out with me all this time and listening to these series and downloading these series, I greatly appreciate it. I hope you have benefited a lot from this series. Wow man, I've learned a lot myself in this series, just reading it and preparing the Bible studies for this series. I've learned a whole lot myself. As a matter of fact, you can read a chapter 20,000 times and every time you read it, God will reveal something new to you. Amen. That's the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is alive. God is alive. Jesus is alive. With that being said, y'all stay in the word of God. We got a lot of stuff going on in the world. A lot of stuff going on in America for those of you who live in America. It's getting crazy out there. The streets are crazy. We got all this violence and we got all this hatred. And we got the spirit of the Antichrist working. The spirit of hate working and it's just so much evil going on. And I'm going to go ahead and do a special prayer for y'all before I close this one out. So pray with me. Telling me, Father, please protect everybody that loves you during these times of trouble. There's so much madness going on in the world right now. So much killing and looting and violence going on in America, in the city of Atlanta, and just all these countries and all these states in America are just chaotic right now. Violence, looting, and bloodshed and burning. Telling me, Father, I pray that your will is done. And I pray that you bring peace. To these people who have a hateful and angry heart, I pray that you lead them to Jesus. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I pray. With that being said, stand in God's Word and continue to pray and trust the Lord. Amen, Amen, Amen.
