I was thinking about how we have those sermon audio files, and sometimes you guys go and you listen to another sermon, maybe you listen to Pastor Ike on a certain message again, you get to listen to it, or Keith, or Pastor Del, or whoever it may be. And I thought, wouldn't it be cool to have the sermon title there, Old Testament Scriptures, Jesus. You mentioned how many hits that would get to listen to him open up the scriptures, teaching what how all these things had to come about. One from you every day, every day. Yeah, I think I'd be there, too. But we're here in Luke 24 and. A couple of women, they ran down to the tomb, found it empty. That was in verse nine. And then they came back, told the disciples, some were disbelieving. But Peter and John, they ran on down there to the tomb and they found it empty. But still, they weren't sure of how it all tied together to the Old Testament scriptures, including Cleopas and his friend who were going to get to join them on the road to Emmaus. And Luke chapter 24, starting in verse 13, we'll read over to verse 43. And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about a seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were conversing with each other about all these things which had taken place. And it came about that while they were conversing and discussing, Jesus himself approached and began traveling with them. But their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. And he, Jesus, said to them, What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking? And they stood still, looking sad. One of them named Cleopas answered and said to him, Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days? And he said to them, What things? They said to him, The things about Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a prophet, mighty indeed and word in the sight of God and all the people and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to the sentence of death and crucified him. We were hoping that it was he who was going to redeem Israel, indeed, besides all this, it's the third day since these things have happened. But also some women among us amazed us when they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body. They came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said, but him they did not see. And He said to them, O foolish men, slow of heart, to believe in all that the prophets have spoken. Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory? And beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He would go farther. And they urged him, saying, Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening and the day is now nearly over. And he went in to stay with them. And it came about that when he had reclined at the table with them, he took the bread and blessed it and breaking it, he began giving it to them and their eyes were opened and they recognized him and he vanished from their sight. And they said to one another, Were not our hearts burning within us while he was speaking to us on the road, while he was explaining the scriptures to us? They arose that very hour and returned to Jerusalem and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them saying, The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon. And they began to relate their experiences along on the road and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread. And while they were telling all these things, he himself stood in their midst, but they were startled and frightened and thought they were seeing a spirit. And he said to them, Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands, my feet, the design myself. Touch me and see for spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have. And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still could not believe it for joy and were marveling, he said to them, Have you anything here to eat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish and he took it and ate it before them. Back in March of 2007, the Discovery Channel aired a program called The Lost Tomb of Jesus. Maybe it was long enough ago that you have no recollection of that, or maybe you had a vague recollection. Supposedly, it was a documentary produced by award-winning film director James Cameron. Now, that really should be a little bit of a red flag right there, but Cameron had two men who presented information about this so-called lost tomb of Jesus. And one was an archaeologist named Simcha Jakubowicz, and the other was James Tabor, chair of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina. in Charlotte. These two guys also released a book that they titled The Jesus Family Tomb. Now the program created quite a stir because these people claimed to have solid evidence that they had found the bone box of Jesus. Now an ossuary, which is a bone box, this is a picture of one, it looks like this. They found a number of them in Israel. But this particular one, they said, that they found in the Talpiot district of Jerusalem was the bone box of Jesus and supposedly bore the inscription, Jesus, son of Joseph. Well, the filmmakers wove a tale so profound that it seemed to completely undermine and dismantle everything the Bible said about Jesus. Their claims sounded like the Da Vinci Code. And I always marvel at these things because God, in His infinite, marvelous providence, He will raise up individuals sometimes who aren't even saved like Ted Koppel. Now, if that name rings a bell, Ted Koppel used to be the former journalist for NBC. He's from Britain. He was the former news anchor of Nightline. And he did a follow-up program on the Discovery Channel called Lost Tomb of Jesus, a critical look. Koppel had Jacobo Vici and Tabor on the program and other scholars consisting of archaeologists and theologians who they said, no, these guys are wrong, discredited many of the claims made in the initial broadcast. And Koppel exposed the filmmakers for selectively editing what many so-called scholars that they had interviewed said. In fact, he had all of these guys on the program, Dr. Stephen Fahn, Stephen Cox, Dr. Shimon Gibson, archaeologist, and Dr. Amos Kloner, also an archaeologist. And each of these men rejected the hypothesis put forward by Iacovici and Tabor. In fact, it was this Dr. Kloner, this archaeologist who led the original excavation of the Taupio site in 1980 and stated emphatically that the tomb did not belong to Jesus Christ and blasted the film. In fact, this is what he said. Their movie is not serious. They say they're discovering things, but they haven't discovered anything. They haven't found anything. Everything had already been published and there's no basis on which to make a story out of this or to identify this as the family of Jesus. He went on to say, it makes a great story for a TV film, but it's completely impossible. It's nonsense. There's no likelihood that Jesus and his relatives had a family tomb. They were from Galilee with no ties to Jerusalem. And then he said, it's another money making scheme without historical and factual credibility. And so there goes another attempt to try to explain away the resurrection and what the scriptures say about the Lord Jesus Christ. I'm just totally amazed. All you have to do is have Ph.D. after your name and be on television and immediately you are the expert in that field, whatever it might be. Well, God sees things so differently, doesn't he? God says, my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. And so I am fascinated by the fact that God does not see tangible, physical things or evidence as the ultimate proof of something. That's not the way that God sees it. God sees what is unseen to us as the undeniable proof of His existence and the evidence for many things. In fact, God sees the written record of everything that he's recorded for us that is unseen as the ultimate proof of many, many things, including himself. Now, I'm not saying that God discounts tangible physical evidence as far as we see it, but that's not what he puts a premium on. There's such a strong strong indication of that in the passage that brother Michael read Luke chapter 24 and verses 13 through 43. Because in this passage, the Lord Jesus himself does not make himself known to Cleopas and the other man until he has spent a lengthy amount of time explaining to them from the Old Testament the things concerning himself. And so the question that rises right away. Did you have this question when you read the passage for the week? Why? Why? Why would you spend hours? By the way, seven miles, you know, they were walking seven miles. I checked it one day from the entrance door of the church building to the front door of my house is seven miles. So if you ever want to find out how long it takes to walk seven miles, give it a try. We'll give you a drink when you get to our house. But they're walking that seven miles, and Jesus uses the whole time to explain in the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. I want to ask Him, don't you? Why? Why don't you just say, man, look, hey, it's me. See? My hands, my feet, my side. It's all over. Well, that's why as we look at this passage today from verses 13-43, we want to notice three needs. There were three needs that they had. We have the same three needs. And not only three needs, but three evidences as far as resurrection proof that Jesus really is alive and well. And so we're going to focus our attention on those beginning at verses 13 through 26. Because in those verses, our first need is this. It's a need for solemn reflection. Now, verse 13 says, and behold, two of them, Them who? Well, if you look back at verse 9, it says, And returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. So Cleopas and his friend were part of the rest that were gathered there in Jerusalem. And they decided sometime on that first day of the week after this report had come from the women and Peter and John had run and looked at the tomb and had come back, well, they were just going to go home. And so they start this trek, which is about seven miles from Jerusalem. Now, it's interesting to me that the church fathers tell us that every one of the individuals that Luke names in his gospel, like Cleopas, these are individuals that Luke actually interviewed. He talked to them and said, you know, tell me what happened. You can read this in chapter one of the Gospel of Luke in verses one through three, because he says, I investigated everything carefully and I have written it down in consecutive order for you, most excellent Theophilus, and of course, for us as well. But they start this seven miles to their own town named Emmaus. And they're talking about these things, right? Verse 14, conversing with each other about all these things that had taken place. And while they're talking, Jesus comes up and starts walking along beside them. And verse 16 says that their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him. Now, that's a pretty good translation because it is a passive verb. And so we're prevented. It's not that they didn't understand themselves, but God Himself, Jesus Himself is keeping them from knowing exactly who He is. And what's the question we have about that? Why? Why would you do that? If it were me, right? All you have to do is say, men, it's me. You can see. Move the hood back. It's me. And what would they have said? Wow, praise God. We were wondering. It's just amazing. It's so good to see you. I can't believe it. Probably hugging him. Right. And then Jesus says, well, let me tell you from the Old Testament everything it says about me. And they would have gone, oh, yeah, I see it. I see it. I got it. I got it. Oh, yeah. No problem. Why didn't he do it that way? Well, Jesus knows. that there would have been much reflection on the truth of the word of God if he had simply revealed himself and said to them, this is what the scriptures say. But by painstakingly going through the scriptures and telling them the things concerning himself without making it known to them who He is. He grounds them thoroughly in the Word of God and opens their minds to understand. Isn't that what verse 32 says? Later on, they said, we're not our hearts burning within us. What's that mean? Our minds were being opened to the truth of the Word of God. And we were just so deeply moved. is what God wants for every one of us. That's what He wants for us. That the Word of God be indelibly imprinted on our heart. And that's why there are so many statements in the Bible, we're going to look at these in a little bit, about sound doctrine. Healthy words. Healthy doctrine. Think about it right now. Think about it. Reflect on this. Were these men believers? Answer? Yeah. They're disciples, right? They're part of the rest of verse 9. What was their problem? Well, their problem was they didn't understand the Old Testament. They were confused. They didn't understand how it all fit together. I mean, their idea of a Messiah was somebody who's going to come and he's going to destroy the Romans and set up his throne in Jerusalem and rule over the entire world. And we're going to be his chosen people and be part of that. And verse 17 says, they stood still looking sad. They didn't get it. In fact, after they explained to Jesus what had happened, notice verse 21. We were hoping. It was our hope. It was our hope that He was the One. But they had no place in their theology for a dying Messiah. They had no place in their theology for a resurrection. And it's not because they didn't believe the Bible. They're believers, right? Did they believe the Bible? Sure they did. When they went to the synagogue, were they taught what the Scriptures had to say? Absolutely they were. And so the problem is they only had a partial understanding of what the Bible says. Now listen to this. Partial understanding of what the Bible says is not enough. Right? That's the problem. A partial understanding is not enough. And that's why all across our country we hear things like God wants you to be wealthy. Really? Is that what the Bible says? No. James chapter two and verse five says, has not God chosen those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith? It's not always his will for people to be wealthy. Well, but God wants you to be healthy. Really? Have you ever read the book of Job? Have you ever read John 9? Lord, who sinned? This man or his parents? Jesus said, neither. This man is blind for the glory of God. How about verse 71? It was good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes. And so what does Jesus say to them in verse 25? Do you remember when we were singing hymn number 368? He walks with me and talks with me. And probably many times when He talks with me, He would say, Oh foolish pastor and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken. And I think he would also say, by the way, we need to change this hymn. You ask me how I know he lives? The Bible tells me so. That's a far greater evidence. It really is. And Jesus is going to make that point here very strongly, of course. But I noticed in verse 25 what Jesus doesn't say. Verse 25, And he said to them, Men, I can really identify with your struggle. The Old Testament is really a hard volume to understand. I mean, all these verses about the wrath and anger of God, it almost seems like the Old Testament God is a bully. You know, I just really can't fault you. That's not what he says, is it? You see, the problem, are you ready? This is going to hurt. The problem is not here. The problem is here. The problem is not what the Bible says. The problem is whether I understand it and get it or not. And Jesus lays the responsibility completely on them and says, you foolish men and slow of heart. Now, it's probably really good they didn't translate that that word slow of heart very literally, because it could be translated stupid. You're stupid. You're ignorant. You're not getting it. You should, but you're not getting it. Now, I said to myself, why would the Holy Spirit include this account? Because this is the only place it's included. It's not in Matthew, Mark or John. It's only here in Luke. And I think it's because of the incredible implication, more important than seeing the risen Lord Jesus Christ is knowing what the Word of God says. There's no greater evidence for the resurrection. You know, brethren, this is why every time we get together this morning, at 11 o'clock, tonight, what is our focus? Our focus is always on the Word of God because it's the Word of God that has the healthy words. the sound truth that you and I need so that we understand correctly. And even when we know things, at least for me, when I'm studying during the week, I say, oh, yeah, that's right. I need to be reminded about that. Now, here's the point. Understanding my Bible is far more important than seeing Jesus in his glorified body. And as we'll see, Jesus shows Cleopas and his friend, it's in the Bible that we find the truth about Jesus. And so Jesus goes on then in verses 27 through 35 to make it clear that our need is not only for solemn reflection. I mean, what does the Bible say? What does it mean? But we also have a need for synchronized revelation. And you're probably thinking to yourself, what does that mean, synchronized revelation? Well, what God has revealed to us, it needs to be put together in such a way. In fact, I believe this is why God has the Bible written the way it is. It makes us have to be students of the word of God so that we look at it And like Proverbs 2 says, mine for it as if for silver, and if for gold, to understand what it says. And we see the bigger picture and how it unfolds and fits together. And we say, wow, God is amazing. You know, Brother Michael said, what if we had that message on sermon audio? Well, this is the greatest Old Testament synthesis course ever given, unparalleled in history. And I imagine, can I use my imagination, that when Jesus began, he began in the book of Genesis. Then God said, let us make mankind in our image and our likeness. And he could have said to Cleopas and his friends, so who is the our? Who is the us? Men, that's me. I was there. In fact, it was I myself who brought Adam into existence and formed Eve. He could go on in the book of Genesis. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. That was me. I was walking there with them. How about verse 15? And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers. masculine singular pronoun. He will crush your head and you will strike his heel. Now what does that mean, strike his heel? The Messiah is going to be dealt a blow. I mean, even from the earliest chapters, God is telling you about how that I was going to come and die. Well, Genesis chapter 22 What a great foreshadowing of the Lord Jesus, where Abraham takes his son and offers him as a sacrifice. And he could have just easily gone through the whole Bible. By day, in the book of Exodus, the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light. Who's in the pillar of cloud and in the pillar of fire? It's the angel of the Lord. It's the Lord Jesus himself. You don't have to believe me, just read 1 Corinthians chapter 10. That's what it says. How about the book of Leviticus? All the sacrifices, all the sacrifices pointing to him. How about even the false prophet Balaam in the book of Numbers? I see him, but not now. I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob and a scepter will rise out of Israel. And then he goes on, right? The Lord your God will raise up for you, Moses says, a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. Who is the individual that stood before Joshua in Joshua chapter 5 and he said, remove your shoes for you're standing on holy ground. And Joshua said, are you for us or for our enemies? Well, I didn't come to take sides. I came to take over on God. And we just keep going, right? Joshua, Psalm 16, you will not allow your Holy One to endure decay. Psalm 22, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Psalm 23, the Lord is my shepherd. Isaiah 7, verse 14, a virgin will conceive and bear a son. Chapter 9, verse 6, for a child is born unto us, a son is given to us, and the government will be upon his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Originator, or Father of Eternity, Everlasting God. And Micah 5, verse 2 says, and he'll be born in Bethlehem, And even before Jesus died, he said this. If you believe Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. And basically what he's telling Cleopas and his friend is, I told you this already. So the central figure of the Bible is Jesus. He's the creator. He's the sustainer. He's the giver of life. He's the Savior. He's the Sovereign. He's the supplier of all that is needed. He is God. He alone. And He's the head of the church, including this church. That means that He's your Shepherd a whole lot more than I am. Now, I want you to notice what happens because they're listening to all of this, right? And in verse 32, They say we're not our hearts burning within us while he was speaking to us on the road, while he was explaining the scripture to us. Do you notice what they don't say in verse 32? They said to one another, wow, that was so cool, wasn't it? I mean, we saw an actual glorified body. Jesus really has risen from the dead. And wow, maybe we're going to have a body like that's not what they say. They don't talk about his glorified body at all. They talk about the scriptures. That's what they talk about. And Jesus acts as if he's going to go farther. The text doesn't say that he needs a place to stay or he needs anything to eat. Maybe he just lives down the block as far as they know. But they say, oh, don't go. Come and stay with us. Why? We want to hear more. We want to hear more about what you have to say. You see, they talked about something that we can talk about. We can say to one another as we read the Scriptures, wow, that is amazing what God says, what God is doing and how it all fits together. It's the Word of God. that feeds souls, that motivates hearts, that opens minds and comforts the sad and discouraged, just like Jesus did for these men. So I want to ask you this question, are you ready? Just how important is your Bible to you? These men are saying, that is amazing. Tell me more. I want more. Or are you so familiar with what the Bible says that you're saying, well, you know, I can do without it. You can't. Not at all. Here's what God says. If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, the word could also be translated healthy. healthy words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ. And with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing. This is one of many places where this phrase occurs. Sound words, sound doctrine. Another is in Second Timothy, chapter four and verse three. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires. Men who say things like, well, the Old Testament is a hard book. It's not what Jesus did. Now this particular Greek word, the sound, sound doctrine, hygieno, to be sound, healthy, or in health. Sound words, sound doctrine, healthy words, it gives spiritual health. It gives to you spiritual health. If you don't receive it, guess what you're not getting? Spiritual health. And if you're focusing most of your attention on other words, what are you getting? Not the healthiest truth or teaching. Sometimes the adjective is good. It's also translated sound, but it's good, pure, the pure milk of the word. I don't know about you, but I don't like milk that has all kind of chaff or straw or stuff in it. I mean, do you? You know, you're milking the cow and all that stuff gets in the bucket. Of course, you know, that was some years ago. Now you have all the new machinery, but it could still happen. You look at that and go, oh, let's filter that out. Exactly. I want filtered stuff. I want stuff that gives me health, that's spiritually healthy. Robert Sumner wrote a book called The Wonders of the Word of God. And in the book, he tells about a man in Kansas City who was severely injured in an explosion. His face was badly disfigured. He lost sight in both eyes. But he was a new Christian. And he really believed that if he could read his Bible, he would come to an understanding of what God was doing in his life. What was the purpose for this? And why would God allow this to happen in my life? And that he could be comforted if he could read and understand the Bible, but now he lost his sight and he couldn't read it. Well, a friend of his told him about a woman in England who took a Braille Bible, you know, the Bible with the bumps for blind people that they feel, And even though she couldn't feel it, she used her lips to read the Braille Bible. And he thought, oh, I'm going to try that. And so he got a Braille Bible and he tried it with his lips, but his face had been so badly damaged by the explosion that he had no feeling in his lips and the nerve endings were destroyed. And so he prayed and said, Lord, I really I really want to understand your word. And he he had this thought. What about your tongue? And so he tried it with his tongue and it worked. He was able to feel the bumps and read the Bible. And over the next year or so, he read his Grail Bible four times. I would say that he was hungry for the Word of God. Remember what Jesus said, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they'll be filled. Now, we can either be like the man in Kansas City or like another man that I read about who took his family to church without a Bible. And on the way home, he told his wife, daughter and son that he really didn't get much out of the message that day. And his wife complained about the piano player, and the daughter said she didn't really like the songs. And his 14-year-old son, who was sitting in the back, said, well, Dad, what do you expect for a dollar? Because he saw his dad take the $1 bill, fold it up, put it in the offering. It looks like it's more that way if you fold it up and put it in. But you see, we get out of the Bible what we put into the Bible. We get out of worship what we put into worship. We get out of the message in proportion to the preparation that we put into the message. You see, that's one of the reasons why that yellow sheet in your bulletin. You have next week's readings. You have questions. And when you come on Sunday, can you leave saying this? Look at verse 32. Were not our hearts burning within us while he was speaking to us, while he was explaining the scriptures to us? That's what I want for myself. So that as I hear and look at the Word of God, the Spirit of God is at work in my life. It takes synchronized revelation to understand, to see the bigger picture. It takes solemn reflection and it takes solid realization. Now this really, in verses 36 through 43, this is really the love of God. God condescends to our weakness. Think about it. Jesus doesn't show them who He is first. He takes all this time and focuses on the Word of God. And then finally, by way of confirmation, He appears to them so that they can see that He's really risen to life. He's no mere apparition. He has a body that looks like their body. In fact, they were startled, right? Verse 37 says, and thought that they were seeing a spirit. He's no Casper the ghost. He's going to eat the fish. It's not going to fall on the ground. I mean, he has a real body. No blood, but no decay, no pain, no ill health, no weakness. But even then they can't believe it. Did you notice verse 41? And while they still could not believe it, for joy and were marveling, He asks for the fish. But it's amazing love. God condescends to our weakness. He knows that what we want is something that we can touch, something that we can see. But He wants to make it clear, doesn't He, that our focus needs to be upon the Word of God because this is the real evidence. This is the explanation of all that's unseen. This is where real faith rests on the foundation of the truth of the Word of God. In fact, eight days later, right? Thomas wasn't there. And according to John 20, eight days later, Jesus appears, and He appears to Thomas, and Thomas touches, looks, and says, My Lord and My God. And what does Jesus say to him? Because you have seen Me. Have you believed? Now that's an interesting question. I mean, are you believing just because you see me? We see all kinds of stuff. But it's all destined to go away. The second law of thermodynamics. There are people who aren't here anymore. They've died. 2 Corinthians 4, verse 18 says, The things that we see are temporal, but the things that are unseen are eternal. So Jesus says, because you have seen me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see and yet believed. Why are we blessed? Because you see, our faith, like Cleopas and his friend, is on the Word of God and what it says about the Lord Jesus Christ. Remember Vance Havner? Anybody ever hear of Vance Havner? Yeah, some people are shaking their head. I think he preached his last message when he was 89 or 90, something like that. But one of the statements he made, I'll never forget. He said, you know, we go to football games and we shot like Comanche Indians and then we come to church and we sit like wooden Indians. I like that one. Because this book can take away your anxiety much better than Prozac with no detrimental side effects. This book can cure your lying better than any lie detector. This book can cure your stealing better than cutting off your hand. This book can take away your pride better than any therapist. This book can increase your love more than any marriage counselor. This book can give you peace of heart that can't be purchased anywhere. This book can give you joy and love like you've never known it before. So are you reading your Bible? Are you studying your Bible? Are you hiding God's Word in your heart so that you will not sin against Him? Are you studying to show yourself approved unto God by rightly dividing the Scriptures and seeing how it all fits together? Famous missionary to Africa, Dr. David Livingston, who was with the London Missionary Society back in the 19th century. He did an amazing thing. He went to Africa as a medical missionary. Spent his whole life there. He died in Zambia in 1873. But when he first went to Africa, he took his entire library and all his medical books with him. And he hired guys to cart this stuff around in the packs that they had, like a backpack. He had 300 pounds of books. Well, after hundreds of miles of carrying this, the guys who were carrying it were nearly exhausted and they said, we cannot go on unless you get rid of some of this weight. So he threw some of the books away, hundreds of miles more. Guess what? It's too heavy. He threw more of the books away. He finally had one book left. Can you guess what it was? This Bible. Now, I wonder, if you could only keep one thing of everything that you have, what would it be? Would it be your Bible? Brother Dennis is going to come and lead us in our closing hymn, number 563. I think the title of this hymn is, Open My Eyes. like Cleopas and his friend. I was very interested in verse 2 of this hymn. Open my ears that I may hear voices of truth thou sendest clear, and while the wave notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear. I really like that stanza because we live in a world where so much false teaching and false information is being given out. And to receive the pure, healthy Word of God for cleansing and for seeing things correctly is our desperate need. Now, if you're here today and you don't know the Lord Jesus, or you have a need, we always invite you to come. You come even while we're singing and say, I need to know Christ. I need to know what to do about this situation. You come, even as we sing.

God does not see things the way that we do (Isaiah 55:8-9). He sees the written record of the unseen as more important evidence of eternal things. Luke 24:13-43 bears this out. Jesus takes hours to open the Old Testament to 2 of the "the rest" (v. 9) and ground them in the Scriptures before revealing Himself to them. This speaks volumes regarding God's view of the Scriptural record vs. tangible, visible evidence. We need to wrap our minds and our hearts around this and so embrace the Scriptures as God's ultimate evidence of His person and His work.
